Well, Covax really isn't necessary for Thailand anyway, Thailand can easily afford to vaccinate all its citizens with the most effective vaccines. And it has a public health system capable of distributing those vaccines.

Covax does not equal free.  My understanding is Thailand will be paying Covax for the shots.  The advantage of using Covax is they can negotiate large quantities and better prices.  They also have direct access and established relationships with the manufacturers.

A bit of over the top, artistic licence used here!

What's with all the derelict and partly demolished buildings, they weren't down to Covid.

    Just a bit?

You feel safe with 1 shot of AZ when fully vaccinated people are still catching the virus?  At this moment, I won't be going anywhere in a plane even when I am fully vaccinated.

There is a difference between catching the virus and getting so sick you need to go to the hospital.  The vast majority of vaccinated people, even with just one SinoVac shot, are not getting severely sick.

I wish countries would talk less about numbers of new cases and more about hospitalizations because a lot of people seem to be confused by the distinction.  All the lockdowns and restrictions are (supposedly) about keeping hospitalizations down and nothing else.

I would only use Thai Airways if it was C.O.D..

Many complaints of canceled flights and long or no refunds.

Even before this there planes interiors were outdated and service overrated.

    EVA Air or Cathay Pacific.

    Premium economy, excellent.

Also there is no backseat entertainment as they haven't paid that bill.

You need to fly directly into Phuket to do the sandbox thing.  So it's not as straight forward as just finding a flight to Thailand.

  5. Bangkok Bank used to be the easiest for a farang who does not live there to open an account.  They have tightened things up though.  So you need the certificate and proof of residency now like you do at the other banks.

I got my account before you needed the certificate and just use a friends address for my residence.  Been a few years now and it still works.

thought they were predicting about 120,000 in 3rd qtr. At this rate they will be looking at about <40,000, and even less if they shut up shop on the sandbox due to covid rising

I thought you doom mongers were predicting it was never going to happen?

Let's be honest.  You are going to try find a reason to call it a failure no matter what.  If it's not the numbers of tourists it's the amount of money they are spending or any one of a dozen other lame reasons I have read some of you trying to spin around here.

So, Since from June to say Aug 5th (60-65 days) you will have been vaxxed 3 times in with only about 3 weeks between AZ and Pfizer? On who's advise did you follow for that regimen or did you plan it? Any noteworthy ill effects?

I read about an elderly lady that accidentally got 3 AZ jabs within a couple weeks and she got pretty sick.  So I know you should not get them too close together.  That's about the worst I have heard.

That's about US$123 a day each, does that include hotel? I'm sure they will all be please to know they have been watched and audited so closely too.

The 6 stages of doom monger grief.

Stage 1:  It will never happen, Thailand can't do anything right.

Stage 2: Nobody will come, Thailand can't do anything right.

Stage 3:  Everyone will die of covid.  It will be like a zombie apocalypse.  Thailand can't do anything right.

Stage 4: Ok so even though lots of people came even though it's ultra low season with few flights, and those numbers will only go up in high season with more time to plan the trip and more flights, big brother is watching them.  Thailand is a police state.

Stage 5: The tourists aren't spending enough money to make it worthwhile.  Total failure.

Stage 6: Thailand sucks.  Too many tourists throwing money around.  The Thai gov't does treat me with my meager pension like I am special.  I'm leaving.

AGAIN, I'll make the point....... It was a spike in "Infected people" NOT "cases".

And...in UK testing is still increasing - even in shopping centres, you can just walk in, or go to a pharmacy and collect a box of 7 tests for free.

So the spike is not only to be expected but doesn't really matter as the people involved are, mainly, asymptomatic.

Doesn't matter if it is asymptomatic.  That was still a spike in new cases and it's the same reporting as all other countries.   The increase in testing does NOT account for the spike, which has since gone down even though testing has not.

Vaccination has ended the problem in the UK. The hospitals are fine and everything is wide open. I can throw down beers in bars and clubs across the country any day, any time. I can meet any number of people, go to festivals, travel to any country that will take me. Am currently in the UK and covid is in the rear view mirror whatever the media might tell you.

Not rubbing it in, just saying once Thailand gets to a similarly high vaccination threshold it can do the same.

Without vaccines the UK would be locked down right now with hospitals overflowing. With vaccines, we are 99% free to do whatever we want (bar wearing masks in a few places still).

UK just got past a huge spike though.   Not sure why with most people vaccinated.

I thought I would give a update on prices here.

This is lunch I had delivered to the condo I am staying in. I did not feel like going out.

Honey chicken breast with cheese and a small piece of ham in the middle. Beans , rice, Potatoes, A nice soup and salad, and a drink. The cost delivered was 2.80 dollars and I gave a 1 dollar tip.. Total 3.80.

Here is my condo, I rented for one month. Fully furnished with a washer and air. Very good and fast internet. Total 470 for the apartment. This is in town in a very secure building. I am not liking it really, I want to move up to a better place with a pool and gym. So If I can find one next month I will post pics and prices. This was last minute.
