Air Border run through vientiane?
biervoormij replied to webber4's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I am not an expert but I think with a limited amount of time in Thailand they should be fine. They may want to have an onward ticket and 20K baht but usually immigration does not ask to see these. -
Air Border run through vientiane?

You may want to provide addition information about your friends time in Thailand. If this is their first time in Thailand and they have only spent 60 days it is a lot different compared to someone that has been traveling around and this will be the 6th time entering the country in the past year. If they are going to spend some time in Vientiane they could always make an appointment and apply for a Thai tourist visa. -
I don't think there are many other advantages other than the time of your stay. You get no advantage in health services. Tourist and Retires pay the same rate in Thailand. The one I can think of is you can not get a 5 year driving license on a tourist visa and recently read you can not buy a car when on a tourist visa but I don't know if that is true everywhere in Thailand.

A couple of years ago @chrissables did a tour around Thailand on a Royal Enfield. Following is the link to his tour and it has a link to the first part of the tour as well. He is currently on a tour with a Honda CT-125 but maybe he can give you some feedback on his experience with Royal Enfield since he did a lot of KM.

The story of leaving and returning is about as real as Mr BS's Rolex. I have to admit I enjoy fiction so keep the stories coming. This was not your best work but I appreciate the effort.

I enjoyed traveling around the country way back in 2013. Did not think about it being a long term place for me at the time. I was more interested in exploring the world before getting a retirement visa for Thailand. Maybe now would be a good time to go check it out for a month if you are not a fan of Songkran.

Please let us know if you enjoy Gentleman from Moscow. I saw it trending but am undecided if I want to download it based on the trailer. -
New tax laws
biervoormij replied to superal's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Funny I think I am a mix of all of these but number 4. 1) Denial - it’ll never happen I am not sure Thailand will really make all retires file tax returns. 2) Anger - bloody incompetents, they don’t tax their own people so they tax us, low hanging fruit How do you make a change that possibly impacts most expats and not clearly communicate this. I find all the information I have read here helpful but feel like this should be communicated by the Thai government. 3) Bargaining - I could spend 179 days here and then holiday in Cambodia for 7 days and then….blah blah When I learned about this change I brought more money into Thailand prior to 2024. I will remit under 120K in 2024 so believe I am not required to file a tax return. I want to see the chaos when all the expats try to file their first tax return in Thailand in the start of 2025. I have seen the lines at immigration when it is spread over 12 months. My understanding is it will be required for everyone to do taxes in the first 3 months of the year. If I feel like I am going to have to get an agent to deal with the taxes I may spend my 800K and move. 5) Acceptance - Well, it’s only going to be about 12k baht per year so not too bad. I think at the amount I bring into the country it will only be about 7K a year. If this is really the case I will increase my retirement withdraw so my home country tax is about equal to this and then claim a foreign tax credit. Sorry for a long answer but I find this tax stuff all rather confusing. I do appreciate all the answers I have received here and have my plan for 2024. I will see what 2025 holds before doing anything crazy. -
Why do you say these crazy things if you don't want people to quote you?

Mr BS once said he came to Thailand "to slowly drink myself to death in the sun." Now he is upset that people are encouraging him to complete his mission.

Australia must not have much news it they cover a concert interruption in Toledo Ohio.

Thanks for the answer. I have a US debit card but no longer have a US credit card and was hoping this might be a way to get one. I may have to become a US resident again to be able to get a US credit card again. It is just the additional fraud protection with the credit card and I would also like to reestablish a US credit score. I think not having a credit score may cause problems if I wanted to return to the states.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea on what will be required when dealing with the Thai RD. Will I need to provide my US tax returns and balances of my US accounts as of the end of 2023? I have only transferred money from my saving into Thailand but have no idea what they will accept as proof of that. I hope that the Thai RD also sees ""received" is equivalent to "earned"" and not that received is equivalent to distributed. I assume if I do have to pay Thai taxes I can claim them back on my US returns?

@Jingthing said "OMG. Wait a second. I thought anything earned before January 1 2024 is exempt? So for example a typical IRA say 300k usd. So you withdrawal 12k. Isn't that all very old money so exempt in Thailand?" Sorry Mike I am a bit confused by your answer but I am confused by all this tax stuff. I thought the only US Pensions that were exempt are Social Security and Government Service Pensions. The US treats IRA and 401K distributions as normal earned income at the time of distribution so I thought this would be taxable in Thailand. Is it in the Thai tax law or the Thailand-US treaty where I am missing the IRA/401K exemption? Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

Come on Mr BS, we all know you deeply love Thais and Thailand. If you didn't you would leave and go somewhere you were happier.

Like I say immigration did not staple it in my passport the times I did it myself. Funny immigration has never said anything to me about it not being in my passport in all the times I have dealt with them. I have handed my passport to immigration 4 times in the past year and not a word. The last page of my passport has the receipt from my 90 day report. It may just be that a copy of my TM30 is always included in the stack of papers I hand over each time I deal with immigration so they don't care that is not in my passport. I will trust that you and @IvorBiggun2 are correct and I have just been lucky. I will staple my current TM30 in my passport.

Farang's reputation for attacking Thai women in Thailand.
biervoormij replied to Goat's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Some men have a superiority complex. They think they are god's gift to women so it is ok to mistreat women. I don't think this is unique to farangs but it is easier to point your finger at others then look at yourself. -
I don't think you are required to have a TM30 in your passport. I have never had a hotel put one in my passport and the times I have been to immigration myself to get a TM30 they did not staple it into my passport like they do with the 90 day report. Maybe I have been breaking the law and didn't know it.

@TPDH did you get your 90 day report done and did they tell you why it was rejected by the online system?
