  1. Desexing programs work well to reduce unplanned breeding in the Western world, where there are very few uncontrolled ferals and strays. I am referring to US, UK and Australia here. In Thailand, where the feral/stray population is so huge - this program will only make a small dent in dog numbers - and should be seen more as a PR exercise. Yes - it is better than nothing - but not much.
  2. another thing... as in Australia , obesity is also a socio-economic problem. People who have less money seem more likely to eat fatty or sweet foods. I think this is why there seem to be more 'large sized' people in the rural areas here in LOS. people in higher economic brackets tend to be have higher self esteem & are more concerned about body image, and their general health. gross generalisations I know - but just my thoughts on the matter.
  3. I think it depends where you are in Thailand. In the tourist areas there are a lot of slim, healthy looking people. Where I live in rural Kanchanaburi, there is a very large percentage of the under 40 group who are obese, or even morbidly obese. Young children of obese parents are invariably overweight as well. IMO the issue is cheap fatty & fried foods, and sweet 'milky' drinks and soft drinks.
  4. No. You contracted Dengue because you were bitten by a mosquito carrying the Dengue virus .
  5. IMO the all in one coffee machines are overrated . I have always had espresso boilers & grinders as separate units. That way , as Richard has described , you can be in total control of your espresso. I had Gaggia & Rocket machines back in Australia. Here , I have invested ( a bit too heavily) in an ECM Twin boiler machine with a Eureka grinder. Saeco & Delonghi all in ones were regarded as the best by many aficionados in Oz - still dear as poison!
  6. This relationship sounds like it is doomed from the outset. Too many negatives here. I can see no positives in your post - why would you want to continue this relationship? Time to make the break, and look for greener pastures...
  7. He is correct. He will be immune to the Dengue strain that he had - but have no immunity to the other three strains.
  8. 60 days clean is a good effort. Do you have a problem when you drink? Can you stop at any time? Do you have health issues made worse by alcohol - eg Type 2 Diabetes or obesity? I enjoy a drink (or 6) and imbibe on most days. I am fortunate not to have any health issues and my weight is under control. I am not interested in earning brownie points for my purity - I just want to enjoy my life. It's Up to You! - as they say.. Funny story - my Dad was a functioning alcoholic. Sometimes I would drop in to see him on one of his many 'alcohol free days'. He would invariably be relaxing having a few beers. Dad!, what about the alcohol free days? - I would say. 'Ohh, there's not much alcohol in beer' would be the response.. 555
  9. Anything by Boney M I also have a pathological dislike for Fairground Attractions' "Perfect" otherwise I am pretty chill have to disagree with OP about XTC. Love all of their stuff
  10. I agree with the slow approach - as I am a firm believer in 'common things happen commonly' - but the prostate connection is a long shot! His prostate would have to be huge to have had any impact on his stomach - and if that was the case, weight loss, and more likely abdominal discomfort would have been evident. Good luck with him, and I hope the problem is resolved. Also - many issues resolve despite treatment - not because of it!
  11. It would be unlikely that a simple infection would be the cause of this issue - especially as he seemed well in other respects. I would suggest that the infection is 2' to the primary problem, or simply a response to the physical damage to the gastric lining from the regular vomiting. Dogs licking other dogs pee or poo is normal dog behaviour, and very unlikely to be the cause of this issue. There are diseases that could be contracted from other dogs in this way - but your dog would be unwell. The vomiting will cease while he is on fluids (and NBM - nil by mouth) - but if it continues when he eats again, I would strongly suggest he be given a barium meal and a contrast study/series of xrays be performed. The other option is an exploratory laparotomy to check the gut. We used to refer to this as 'lifting the bonnet'!!
  12. What breed is your dog? If you say lab or golden retriever - I'm going to say Myasthenia gravis.. He may have gastritis (an inflamed stomach) now - because he has been vomiting so much -it may not be the cause of the problem. If his blood tests are okay then we can rule out kidney disease as the cause. Prostatic enlargement will cause constipation - I have never known it to cause vomiting. Has a barium study been done? At 8 years of age, I would be wondering about a SOL (space occupying lesion, or polyp developing in his small intestine) . Another less common cause can be hypertrophy of the gastric lining - but I only ever saw 2 dogs with this. Is he producing normal faeces? Is he losing weight?
  13. i live close to the army base just out of Kanchanaburi. The sound of gunshots from their shooting range(s) has been much louder & frequent over the last 2 days. Maybe getting a bit of last minute practice in - before we get a bit of crowd control action?
  14. it is still a rat. only time before someone from wifes' family cooks and eats it
  15. I have SurfShark - works well , but generally only use it when I want to visit US or Australia based sites. Slows things down too much for local stuff - but ad blocker is epic!
  16. I try not to get bitten my mosquitoes with a striped abdomen in the daytime. Ie - easier said than done!!
  17. They fogged in my area near Kanchanaburi last week - so they are being proactive. I had Dengue 2 years ago. Bloody awful!! - felt like death! (I think) I hope not to contract it again - as the severity of the disease increases with subsequent infections. You do develop immunity after infection , but only to that strain/sub-type - and there are 4....
  18. Surely the Airport will have to accept responsibility. They haven't got a leg to stand on. Oh, hang on...
  19. Naked Bangkok man sparks outrage for masturbating on condo balcony oh sorry - my bad - didn't read the "out of a slump bit"...
  20. it was actually 4 people sitting in a deck chair - good effort!! sandflies and biting midges also love me! However the issue is not that they are more attracted to some people than others - it is simply that the immune response and subsequent allergic/histaminic reaction is stronger in people like the author and myself. other people will be bitten and have no or very little reaction. sand flees (?) must be a newly discovered species lol - i better do a bit of research on those ????
