  1. Exactly. I suppose if you are flying in from a more expensive country, it would seem a good price. But compared to the local economy, they are exceedingly well paid.
  2. They seem very much in charge of the price; its the most expensive thing in this country (relatively speaking). For the price of a one hour short time you can get: 1. half a salmon from Makro. 2. a trolley full of food (some luxury items too). 3. an internal flight (sometimes return too). 4. a basic rental room for two weeks. 5. 3 boxes of beer. 6. 3-4 bottles of wine. 7. a slap up farang meal for 2 (or three). 8. 7 hours of Thai massage. 9. a few days of maid services. 10. a native speaking English teacher for a few hours. 11. air conditioning for a month. 12. a nice hotel room and breakfast for two. I feel sorry for some people in this country, but not the hookers. They are paid better than most; 50k is not an uncommon salary under normal circumstances. And incase you didn't know, the basic salary of foreign teachers has not increased in 20+ years. If the hookers don't like it, there is always 300 baht for 12 hours work. Those are the people I feel sorry for.
  3. I see you have encountered my wife. Do not trust her under any circumstances.
  4. I mean, seriously, what a <deleted> show this is. Our choice in life is either: fat, frigid, decomposing Old Margaret or Scammy Scummy Low-Life Ting Tong Noi. This is why: never buy in Thailand; always rent. Or, if you are able, try to get a girl that is at least middle class. We live in a feudal system without decent social security.
  5. How's Vietnam compared to Thailand, by the way?
  6. Exactly, As Elon Musk said: the at risk people should have been the only ones to isolate. The world is now considering vaccinating 5-11 years olds, for who? Haven't all the high risk people been vaccinated already? Doesn't that do a reasonably good job of preventing serious illness and death from a covid infection?
  7. I have a friend who retired at 50, came to Pattaya, got a bird pregnant. Then had to go back West to work. Still working in his 60s. He'll never retire. His wife, of course, turned out to be trouble. He has to support her family too in Thailand. Her adult son, too. However, the least of the trouble is his child. If his wife wasn't such a bludger it wouldn't be do bad. Still though, he came for an early retirement in his paradise and it ended before it really got started. Such a shame. Maybe he can enjoy his 70s in Pattaya.
  8. I did my work permit last February. No blood test required. Bumrungrad Hospital about 600 baht.
  9. I'd probably have traded her in for a younger model rather than marry her. I'd probably have married a higher society broad. Better chance of getting one raised and taught right. I'd probably have stayed in civilization (Bangkok) rather than moving to a lower socio-economic area (Isaan). They have too many problems in those areas and their problems become yours. I'd have stayed single for at least a decade of coming to Thailand before settling with anyone. I'd have learned that some birds are not marriage or mother material. Some are just for a swing and that's it. Asians know this. We have to learn the hard way. Fortunately though, I climbed out of that mess. It was a great learning opportunity. Unfortunately, I lost all my hair and sanity in the process.
  10. It's up to the bank. If one bank denies you credit go to another. It is of no concern to Visa or MasterCard.
  11. You may need to do child legitimisation after divorce, not sure. You could lose parental rights to her child after divorce. Maybe someone know about this here. That requires the mother's help though. Or get a lawyer. Immigration will probably want you to bring your child to do the extension, and there will be a home visit once anyway, so you will need access to your child for this visa. And irritatingly the immigration where I used to live always wanted my EX to be present every year doing the visa extension which was annoying cos it wasn't a viss based on marriage. I couldn't understand why they insisted she be a part of it. Edit: dunno why this bolded, can't get rid of it
  12. Good point. The money goes missing and that's why he goes to the falang's home (as he assumed he stole it). Wouldn't surprise me if his own family stole it to pay off loan shark gambling debt or something. These Isaan villages are rife with this problem. Desperate times. Or maybe she is just trying to muddy the waters. How would the falang know where to find the money anyway? Or perhaps the guy himself lost the money gambling and claimed it was stolen. Then, went over there with a gun to save face or something. You never know. Wouldn't surprise me if the farang's wife is in the thick of it or the Thai guy's mother. In any case, the farang was acting in self defense with reasonable force against attempted murder by a gunman in his own home. What's there to investigate?
  13. Thais don't tip. Also tipping doesn't make sense anymore. We live in a world where most things are ordered online now. It ain't just a weekly meal. Its daily food, grocery, and many other goods. We can't tip for everything. Imagine adding 20% to almost everything? I wonder if I'll get a 20% increase from my boss next year, or interest from the bank? Doesn't stop the driver short-changing me 20 baht though, lol!
  14. Some customers deserve it though. Example: "Olives were from a jar" Appropriate response: "You think I got a <deleted> olive tree in the garden?"
  15. Always. Always, always, always, <deleted> always...in Thailand, and I would in any country like Thailand.
