  1. What? No it's not. Tell me one place that these cards are marketed as convenient. Or even at all. No no that's not it, either. Try again. (hint: it has nothing to do with the consumer)
  2. That's not it's purpose
  3. How do you know that? Because one person you spoke to on the phone was able to recite the legal requirements to you? Firstly being able to recite the requirements doesn't equate to being able to recognise them on any given international document. Secondly, a different person (there was definitely more than one member of staff the last time I was at that particular office) may not even know the precise requirements in the first place [and, again, even if they do know them, they may still not be able to recognise them on a foreign license...]
  4. That is still asking for precise information. It's not in any way the same as rocking up at an office and giving it a go.
  5. When you give them a call you have to give the full details of the request ie "My driving licence only allows me to ride a 50cc motorcycle. Is that sufficient to convert to a Thai license?" Obviously the answer is no. It's akin to phoning up the police and asking if it's okay to bang a prostitute here. The point is, when the staff at the transport office see the licence, they're in all likelihood not going to know that the endorsement is for 50cc bikes only, and you're obviously not going to volunteer the information at the time. I think you probably know that.... I'm guessing you're just trying to wind up somebody that you presumably have some kind of history with. But just in case you really weren't aware of the difference between the two situations, you are now (providing your reasoning skills are sufficient to process the above).
  6. Keep an empty 6Litre water bottle by your bed. Fill up as necessary. Empty it in the morning.
  7. You could catch the train to Chumpon or Surat Thani and get a bus+ferry from there.
  8. The visa system isn't smart enough to know which documents are required for any given visa type, so it lists all potential documents and requires you to upload something. For my METV I simply created a jpg with the words "not required for tourist visa" and uploaded that for any unnecessary documents (such as the confirmation letter that you mention)
  9. I think the default in Windows is to sleep when you press the power button now. I also think that once it's been asleep for a while it will automatically hibernate. You can check and change what the power buttons do in settings. Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options On the left hand side click "choose what the power button does"
  10. I too like Firefox, but the above is not a feature unique to FF.
  11. Unless he is selling things that can't be easily sourced elsewhere, I think he'll have issues successfully selling internationally unfortunately. Other countries have far cheaper shipping costs than Thailand.
  12. Decades? As in at least 20 years? I don't think it's possible to be dying for 20 years... I think that's called "surviving"....
  13. I have done occasionally but it is rarely a realistic option, if even feasible at all.
  14. What is it with wayward Swedes making trouble in Thailand?
  15. Good point @OneMoreFarang , I hadn't thought of that.
  16. Lol thanks for that. I searched Google but didn't think to search on Lazada.
  17. The built in direction controls don't provide suitable deflection, unfortunately.
  18. I'm not sure this is the appropriate sub-form for this topic. Mods please move it if it's not. The problem with renting properties in Thailand is that the owners tend to put the air conditioning units directly in front of the TV in the living room, and pointing directly at your face in the bedroom. This makes it impossible for me to be comfortable. I like my room to be cool, but I don't want a constant stream of icy air constantly in my face. Before I get the cardboard and glue out, does anybody know if there are any pre-existing solutions to redirect or disperse the air flow? I had a quick google for "air deflector for air conditioner" and got some results but they seem to be for the compressor and not the unit itself.
  19. Well it's a mystery to me.... According to this link.... However the UK government website talks of further changes in 2013. Whether they reinstated the moped allowance I don't know. If anybody here speaks government, then the link I found was https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped/licences-issued-before-19-january-2013 but I can't make head or tail of what it's saying (to be fair I only had a quick scan before giving up - I'm mildly interested, but not interested enough to put any brain power into it! :D)
  20. That depends on when your license was issued. The automatic inclusion of 50cc ended quite some time ago (at least 20 years) I agree that you probably can't officially use that 50cc endorsement to get a bike license in Thailand. However I also don't imagine that every transport office is versed in the intricate nuances of driving licence regulations from all around the world so it wouldn't surprise me if some people had managed to convince somebody to give them a licence based on it. I guess it's worth a try. If it doesn't work out then just do the full test here. It's not that difficult, although of course it's more time consuming than a direct swap.
  21. Yes but this thread is about getting a valid license. I'm highly doubtful that a CBT would be noted on an IDP as it's not a license.
  22. When I did my CBT allowed you to ride up to 125cc max. Maybe it's changed. Are you sure about that? A CBT is an entitlement to learn how to ride. It's not a license to ride a bike without restrictions.
  23. I'm sure if you do everything exactly the way he wants it, you can at least net GG. If you were only after specific individuals you should probably have used DM to make sure they were up for it before creating an "open invitation" then telling anybody who responds that they apparently aren't worthy of your time.
  24. You have an unhealthy obsession with other people's financial situations.
  25. It's a shame that Bobnok seems to have been out drinking and his jealousy of others has led to his attempt at derailing the topic. But it's a decent enough lesson for the OP.... As you're young you're going to meet a lot of bitter expats so it's probably best not to discuss your visa situation with them. If you actually intent to study Thai at a language school you should be fine. The clamp downs tend to be for people who don't actually study.
