Could Trump to Put 100 percent tariffs on Thailand?
placeholder replied to John Drake's topic in Political Soapbox
The Supreme Court rued 5 to 4 in favor of Bush. So it wasn't like their case was baseless. Unlike the repeated 9 to ) rejections of the Trump campaign's attempts to overthrow the results. However, Al Gore will live in infamy after calling for his massed supporters to fight on his behalf. Their invasion of the Capitol was nothing less than an insurrection and Barack Obama's pardoning of them was a disgrace. -

The only time before the first Trump administration that Thailand was considered for a sanctions list was on account of its military coup. The Trump adminstration instituted a rule that any country with a trade surplus of more than 2 percent should be investigated for currency manipulation. No skullduggery was every uncovered. Thailand has been considered for sanctions because of it's violation of human rights. Especially those of Myanmar's refugees. The fishing industry drew special attention for that. I guess you must be distressed that Thailand would allow the mistreatment of illegal immigrants. -

The Dems believed that the 2020 election was stolen? I'm guessing you meant 2024. There are 10's of millions of Democrats in the US. Did this belief ever gain much traction amongst them? Did almost 3/4 of their House members vote against accepting the results of the election? Your comparison is patently ridiculous. -

First off, that was your claim. Not mine. Now, if you had put renewables in place of "solar panels" I can offer evidence, I have repeatedly cited a exhaustive study from MIT which said that once battery costs came down to $20 per barrel 95% of electricity could economically be provided. That standard has been reached way ahead of the expect 2030 date projected in that study. What's more, solar efficiency is also ahead of schedule. So I can provide the link. But the problem is that then you'll demand that I summarize it for you. And that's not going to happen. I'm not here to be your unpaid Administrative Assistant. To put it another way, you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink. -

The problem with your characterization is that it's just an empty generalization. When I point out on whose side the facts overwhelmingly lie, you point to some behavior you find objectionable. You still haven't answered the question of how to engage in a meaningful discussion with people whose beliefs are patently false. -

If it were my position only, you'd have a better point. But it's the overwhelming position of research based science. As for positions on energy, mine are based on science, And I often link to research. You seem to think that this is about one person's belief being just as valid as another's. And where did you come up with the notion that mandating vaccinations is unconstitutional? You got a Supreme Court ruling to cite? -

It is overwhelmingly Trump supporters who reject science. Whether or not that makes them stupid is another issue. As usual, you are trying to put words in someone else's mouth, so to speak. -

But is it the whole population who rejects science? Who traffics in bizarre conspiracy theories? Remember the Obama wasn't born in the USA movement? Or the QAnon movement? -

Clearly, if you condemn me for raising an issue when it's someone else who was responsible, you might want to look a little closer to home. -

Actually, there's something wrong with your reading skills. I didn't raise the issue. I simply replied to Yellowtail. So, I guess what you're really saying is that there's something wrong with Yellowtail's head. -

How can solutions to problems be found when one side no longer bases its arguments on reality? This is like claiming that there should be common ground between people who claimed the moon landings never happened and those who reject that claim. -

Nice try at deflection. On 2 major scientific issues right wingers subscribe to lunatic conspiracy theories. And on the question of elections, even though the Trump election team hired 2 teams of forensic election specialists and they could find nothing. Next you're going to tell me that no evidence of Russian collusion could be found. That claim would be false, but it's become gospel among right wingers. A federal judge actually castigated. William Barr, the Attorney General for making that and similar claims. -

Another case of both sidesism. Which side of the political spectrum Overwhelmingly claims that the 2020 US election was stolen? Which side overwhelmingly claims that human-caused climate change is a hoax? Which side routinely and overwhelmingly denigrates vaccination? -

The Russian economy is doing great. According to the Russians, the inflation rate is now 9.5%. Apparently, what right wingers called a disaster under the Biden administration, is good news under Putin's. And, that rate is highly suspect, given that the prime rate is now 21%. -
US President Donald Trump’s threat to levy tariffs against imported semiconductors creates additional stress for Taiwan, which is already menaced by increasing military pressure from the People’s Republic of China. Trump’s threat also indicates the ascendancy within the White House, at least for now, of American unilateralism over the alternative of attempting to build a collective security bulwark against China. On January 27, Trump said that “in the very near future” the US government would impose tariffs on foreign-produced semiconductors, explaining that the objective is to “return the production of these essential goods to the United States.” He then specifically mentioned that chip-makers “left us and they went to Taiwan.” https://asiatimes.com/2025/01/harassment-of-taiwan-an-ominous-clue-to-trump-2-0-foreign-policy/ This is Trump's way of punishing Taiwan's TMSC for building a now operational semiconductor plant in Arizona And it has plans to open another one, too. And they deserve that punishment. After all, it was those shadowy, traitorous figures in the Biden Administration that negotiated the deal. $6.6 billion TSMC deal in Arizona the latest in the CHIPS Act’s rollout https://www.marketplace.org/2024/04/09/tsmc-deal-chips-acts-semiconductors/

I think not so deep down you assume that other nations do what they do in reference to the US, China, and Russia. You might try thinking about whether they have other more pressing concerns which dictate their policies. -

For what it's worth, the US does grow a lot of rice in Louisiana, Texas, and California. Some of that is in areas which overexploit water resources to grow this thirsty crop. -
