  1. Fascinating ! I just might jump in with $100 when a a new coin entry called "Grease my Pole" enters the game !
  2. IMO that is only partially true. Many more than most have a percentage of a second language i addition to generic Thai. But neither give an advantage in comprehension of global perspectives which if they did possess would likely create an acceleration in social discontent. Yet in reality the inference of educational policies critics find fault in globally is in the dumbing down process in general. The vast majority of employment involves basic capacity to follow and/or comprehend instruction in process where AI automated machines are as yet not profitably viable or available. There seems to be there is this dangerous presumption that higher education belongs to those with existing wealth and/or status that wealth falsely demonstrates a proof of greater intelligence , initiative ,etc. The sad truth is that it is nothing more than a imposed protectionist policy to preserve or enhance the interests of a generational minority that depends on subserviants .
  3. Hom Mali around here harvested at 23<25% dried to 14% max is getting 8bht a kilo. We have stored 1.8 ton dried to 12.5% . Thankfully beat the weather.
  4. Perhaps so but as locations on the volcanic ring of fire the potential that a rise may not be a desirable !
  5. Are you serious? Money interests have no long term consideration. 30 year mortgages on any property are based on capacity to service rather than the longevity of viable occupation. Same money interests will provide insurances which will likely never be paid on in the event of "acts of nature or Deity of choice". My interpretation of the effects of climate change is that while a rise in sea levels will start to significantly impact some coastal areas within 20 years more importantly the degradation of polar ice caps will continue to change weather patterns and the impact of that will continue to threaten viable food production in many areas within 10 years. There is a compounding effect attributable to rising population dependent on living space incrementally encroaching on agricultural land at the same time such land is also becoming stressed by poor management practices that focus on profitability ahead of sustainability coupled with negative impact of climatic shifts and variations . I would agree that altering the outcome is beyond the capacity of humanity to alter already regardless of any debate as to natural cause or assistance in the acceleration of. The sad aspect is that historic human nature will prevail in ignorance of greed and inevitably experience a blow that it saw coming !
  6. No doubt some do or have used a banned film that masks legibility in a speed camera picture. In those cases it is a matter of interfering with the property of a Government agency and therefore illegal. But there are many cases where the quality of the plates have been acknowledged to have deficient and the script/numbers have faded badly with no deliberate interference. Is it reasonable to expect the vehicle owner to pay at all for an item that is not actually their property or of functional value to the vehicle? If the issue is of sufficient concern to the authorities then perhaps if noted at annual safety inspection then new plates could be issued as part of the cost. Something that still happens in some countries . However what should be of far greater interest is the number of vehicles that no plates or if have do not get presented for annual safety inspection or associated fees. Perhaps worse is the potential for the RTP to pull over a vehicle due to illegible plates yet ignore the dangerously unsafe load it carries ! I realize I am being pedantic in my argument but given the reality of poor road safety or genuine enforcement in Thailand to pick out faded plates as any sort of priority is ludicrous .
  7. Perhaps it is as simple as an opportunistic situation that the pandemic has provided in destroying the core industry of Pattaya that previously attracted so many tourists? Were there not pre- pandemic utterances of the desire to remodel Pattaya as a "family friendly" location? It would seem obvious that all and any such attempts only see the relocation of said core attraction. Or is that the real motivation? To send existing or recovered "business" to alternative venues where friendly investments have been made? When the power of politics comes into play the difference between corruption and core-ruction is only a spelling differentiation but either can be profitable in outcome !
  8. The all important question is the cost of annual premiums, annual age related premium increase, cut off age for renewal etc.
  9. That's a question an Aussie friend has. He intends to come on a SETV of 60 days and apply for an extension of 30 more. His departure from Thailand is at/near the 90 day mark so is unsure of insurance cover period requirement. And when/ where is it checked ? On arrival or as part of departure checks? I have suggested to him the cost for 30 days more buying the AXA Sawasdee Inbound Travel Insurance is unlikely to be much more anyway.
  10. "Roadworthy" ? Contemplate the reality of that in the terms you suggest. Yes the mechanical viability in terms of safety is and should be the responsibility of the owner but I am at a loss to understand how the presence of a legible Number Plate effectually provides enforcement. A traffic stop penalty based on the legibility of such a plate would be rare in comparison to the more common issue of expired annual re-licensing or any other opportune cause to extract financial penalty that said number plate provides nothing other than evidence that the vehicle it is attached to can be presumed to have been subjected to original taxes and registration. I am not attempting to proffer pomposity rather than illustrating the abject failure of the RTP to focus on effective enforcement rather than the relatively petty issue of the legibility of a component that at best facilitates the cash grab from speed cameras if those ever get paid! Explain to me then why any rational person should /would be willing to pay 1 Baht for a defective replacement component that is non mechanically functional and is officially the property of the authority that has imposed the prepaid presence of who have already admitted a batch quality deficiency? A more practical focus would be on the enforcement of realistic safety issues that are prolificly evident daily! Or is it that an overloaded vehicle with deficient lights that has for years escaped compliance to a safety inspection is driven by a drunk driver at night overturns and kills occupants and innocent by standers is less in consideration to the revelation that the attached number plates were noted to be be in "pristine" condition ?
  11. Having plates that match the registration and ongoing current annual licensing of a vehicle is undeniably the responsibility of the owner and operator of a vehicle. But given that the plates provided by and required to be displayed by an authority are an item that can not legally be purchased or altered in any way or form and as such are not the property of the owner of the the vehicle then if the plates are deficient in purpose to the interests of that authority and/or the interests of associated authorities in application of assumed interest or penalties relevant to that vehicle which in no manner implies better or greater interest to the vehicle owner further than compliance to the obligation to have present on display with corresponding documentation of legitimate concurrent coincidental that is fully paid how and why is the responsibility to be placed on the owner? Vehicle number plates are the equivalent of an imposed identification label . But in the terms of genuine application especially in consideration of vehicles and the major functional components of are temporary by comparison to chassis number or engine number. Having plates that are unobstructed or unaltered is the limit of responsibility of a vehicle owner. The quality of durable observable visibility remains the responsibility of an authority that imposes the presentation of their product . A deficiency in the quality of that product is therefore not justifiably the responsibility of the vehicle owner nor the vehicle manufacturer in that it has no material or functional impact for other than the authority that imposes the presentation of it.
  12. IMO it is not insanity. It is simply reactive to the current disturbance of relative currency exchange values which are massively being contrived. I would predict that all and any "payment" facility that is secondary to the core "banking" system will be globally censured under dictates of control pending arbitrary outcome of an equally arbitrary decision on ongoing monetary methodology. Seashells, tulips, spices etc have had their day as is happening to the current preferred instituted currency of relative value that by sheer volume of printing should be toilet tissue. The slide of and into the modern phenomenon of digital currency proffers false security in proof of the token personal acquisition that is assumed.
  13. I signed up to PP many years back but in the event of many things have never used it. I will now try to eliminate my presence on it due to an accumulation of doubts derived from the above posts and that I have received only maessages from PP over the years indicating only compliance to changes in terms of use etc, etc, etc. Now my only interest is if in fact I can effect a clean wipe of it !
  14. Not my currency of concern but information related to the Brit Pound that comes as part of my interest suggests that hyperinflation fears have influenced the BOE to retract on suggestions of an interest rate increase which has caused speculative investors in waiting to withdraw to seek greener grass .
  15. I am guessing you mean that when the fuel pump nozzle is inserted the nozzle will not set to to autofill. It will be due to a restriction of the tank fill pipe creating back pressure that normally would indicate a "full" response to shutoff the input. Even manual fill will probably be limited to less than full speed capacity by the the attendant. Perhaps caused by an anti siphoning component in the intake pipe ? If it is of major concern perhaps a replacement tube of local equivalent if it has one ?
  16. Now there is a legitimate issue of concern. In daylight hours RTP members will enforce any petty infraction they can devise but in the hours of dangerous unlit darkness are snug somewhere else but on the roads !
  17. 300 baht to replace items of not your responsibility ? Thats where your path of least resistance often empowers illegitimacy. No ripping yarn at all. Just that he was bold enough to provide justified objection.
  18. A Thai member of my extended family was "ordered" to get replacement plates due to the fact that they were virtually unreadable from more than a few meters away. When he replied that having paid to display the existing plates which are actually under the control if not the property of the Government he wanted the RTP Officer to supply him with a written request for free replacement. He was quickly waved on !
  19. Quite interesting ! PM of Thailand defers to sign up to an international proposal to eliminate deforestation, claims his Government is effectively addressing climate change and days later "orders" Thai military resources be directed to providing a food condiment due to off-seasonal demand ! Surreal !
  20. Thanks. I will pass that on if it becomes question. I am in Thailand and have my own full annual cover which includes covid but now the point has been raised I will investigate same detail !
  21. Those handouts do not amount to so much. Millions of people have received as much if not more in populist payments who produce nothing at all !
