Poll -- Should Hegseth Resign or Be Fired?
jerrymahoney replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
I think the classified / not classified issue will maybe not end up being a big deal. The big deal may well be that Israeli provided intelligence was superfluously mentioned in the chat at all regardless of whether Mr. Goldberg eventually spilled the beans. -

Top intel officials shift responsibility on to Hegseth for sending potentially classified info to Yemen strike group chat Tue March 25, 2025 (However,) some Republicans in Congress are pointing the finger squarely at Hegseth. “I think the most accountable, or the most guilty person is the secretary of defense because he put in all the highly classified information,” Republican Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and former Air Force Brigadier General, told CNN. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/03/25/politics/intel-officials-shift-responsibility-yemen-chat/index.html -

From Wikipedia: In 1964, Charles' career was halted once more after he was arrested for a third time for possession of heroin. He agreed to go to a rehabilitative facility to avoid jail time and eventually kicked his habit at a clinic in Los Angeles. -- Maybe today DOGE would have shut down the rehab center. -

The administration has claimed that no classified information was shared on the messaging app, which national security experts say is not safe for sharing classified intelligence. "The only reason I did that (released the chat info) was because they said we were lying about what we had, and they were trying to cover up what was obviously a massive national security breach." https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/03/30/goldberg-waltz-signal-chat-leak/82729482007/ -

Yagoda had it all worked out before: Wow. That tells us a lot. Bet ya if the terrs read that they would leave the 7-11 and run for their bunkers. The targeted bunkers. https://aseannow.com/topic/1356189-poll-should-hegseth-resign-or-be-fired/page/2/#findComment-19695460 -

The most tangible thing to come out of this so far may be that the Israelis have now found out up-close-&-personal what a bunch of intelligence amateurs that they will have to deal with for the next few years. -

Agreed. Any person involved in the Houthi Missile guy attack was not named. The discussion may soon turn to why that information on a need-to-know basis was included in the chat by Waltz at all. From the NY POST: Israel complains about SignalGate leak after giving US key intelligence used in Houthi strike: report Published March 27, 2025, 6:42 p.m. ET Israel provided the US with critical intelligence from an on-the-ground source in Yemen that was later leaked as part of the SignalGate scandal, according to a report. In the Signal messages, national security adviser Mike Waltz told top Trump administration officials that intelligence had a “positive ID” of the Houthis’ “top missile guy” entering a building that was hit in the US airstrikes. That message was revealed by the Atlantic this week after its editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to a private Signal chat on March 11 to plan out the strike. Privately, Israeli officials complained to Washington that Waltz’s message about that intelligence went public, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a US official. https://nypost.com/2025/03/27/us-news/israel-complains-about-signalgate-leak-after-giving-us-key-intelligence-used-in-houthi-strike-report/ -

On the flip side, Israel may be thanking Goldberg because -- without his release -- they wouldn't know for sure how sloppy the current A-Team is when provided with their gathered intelligence. -

I will guess this may be the long-term fallout here: A hard copy acknowledgement that there is an on-the-ground asset close enough to observe the (late) High level Houthi guy or otherwise be informed of his whereabouts. -

Maybe ask them: Israeli officials furious that Signal group chat exposed intelligence, sources say Updated on: March 28, 2025 / 7:37 PM EDT / CBS News Washington — Israeli officials are furious over the Signal chat leak involving senior Trump administration officials because it included sensitive intelligence Israel provided to the U.S. from a human intelligence source in Yemen, CBS News has learned. While the Signal chat messages published by Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic this week may not have compromised the effectiveness of the airstrike, given the publication's restraint on releasing the information, it did compromise a human source who provided the intelligence to the Israelis, who then provided it to the U.S. for targeting, a senior American intelligence official and a source with knowledge of the Israelis' ire told CBS News. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive national security matters. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/israeli-officials-signal-texts-exposed-intelligence-sources-say/ -

Remaining USAID staff fired, Trump says Myanmar will still get earthquake aid SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 2025 <SKIP> 'A TOTAL ABDICATION' The decision to cut the remaining USAID jobs sparked concern among humanitarian aid experts, who said the firings and funding cuts would prevent a concerted U.S. response to the earthquake that hit Myanmar and Thailand. In a post on X, Jeremy Konyndyk, a former USAID official who is president of Refugees International, called the move "a total abdication of decades of US leadership in the world." He said the firings will cut "the last remnants of the team that would have mobilized a USAID disaster response" to the earthquake. Trump on Friday said he had spoken with officials in Myanmar about the earthquake and that the US would provide assistance. https://www.nationthailand.com/blogs/news/asean/40048020
