  1. Here where we are, coups are never done, or so I had been told.
  2. Dear Folks, It’s back, the twice-per-second bleeping bird. This bird makes a noise like the “warning sound” of a Japanese truck backing up. Here where I am, this bird began beeping about a week ago. What does it actually look like, because this vocalization is one that is not so easy to locate, and I have never actually seen one. So the question is, do you find the return of this bird a positive thing, and comforting, since it signals the return of the cool season? Also, what is the evolutionary advantage of this weird sound for this particular bird? Can it sing? Or, does it only beep? And, what about its young? What do the chicks or hatchlings sound like? Higher-pitched beeps? And why don’t they have these birds in America, because I never heard one singing there when I grew up. I timed the beeps this morning, and this bird beeps at the rate of two beeps per second. How does it know how to beep at exactly this rate? And, do the beeps ever speed up or slow down? What about if the bird saw a snake approaching its nest, for example? Would its beep-rate speed up like the beat of the human heart? I don’t find this bird’s beeps annoying in the least. Still, if I had about 20 of these bleeping birds in my yard, all simultaneously bleeping synchronously, a chorus of bleeping, then what? Have you ever experienced this? Just wondering, Gamma
  3. What baffles me most is why anyone would want to ride any kind of vehicle which produces sound pressures exceeding 50 dB, two meters from the machine. After all, motorcycles are not aircraft, are they...unless.....at times...when.... The machine goes airborne. Even my Benz doesn't emit that much noise.... New acoustic emission regulations for all Thailand motorcycles is coming....one hopes. I would set the maximum allowable emissions at 50 dB at 100 KPH. Even that is too high. China has banned the internal combustion engine use on two-wheeled vehicles. And, Thailand needs to do the same. Electric motorcycles are cleaner, cheaper, safer, and do less harm to the environment. And, electric is quiet.
  4. How can we say, for sure, if this actually might be true? Why do you say that he might? Have you read any further info that might inform us that this is the case? I, for one, am quite interested in this Topic. It's not that I wish anyone to be in trouble. It's only that I also care about real justice. And, everybody can benefit by seeing justice done in this case. So, really....is he in big trouble now?
  5. Very nice chart. I would have posted it myself. All these values are too LOUD. These could easily be halved, if only we had the proper laws that were designed to protect our sanity.
  6. Jeff Sachs' program is better than my program, for sure. Why not just listen to Jeff, instead of me? Your time will be better spent.... Believe me.
  7. I prefer Thai (Asian) women who do not shave anywhere because I like hair. Also, having arrived in Asia, first time in 1971, I am used to hair, and would not have Asian women any other way. Although, these days, I do not have them much.
  8. Wouldn't it be nice if EVERYONE could escape poverty? I used to spend much time listening to Jeffrey Sachs and his views of how to end poverty, while he lectured at Columbia. I like this guy! The best way to stop illegal migration from the South into the USA, is to reduce poverty south of the border. But... Does such a thing just make TOO MUCH SENSE?
  9. A veritable ARMY of those wishing to illegally enter the USA. Are they nuts? For some reason, they seem to feel that it is their RIGHT to invade the US. But what do they think actually GIVES them the right? By the way: I am NEVER going back, after watching your linked video. No Way...JOSE!!!!!
  10. This bike is WAY too loud! At higher RPM, this noisy bike will hit over 100 decibels. Similar to a jet aircraft. These should not be allowed on the road, for this reason.... LOUD!!!!!! The Honda CB450 is a very quiet machine. Unfortunately, some young wingnuts are not satisfied....and will do just anything to make it LOUDER. Crazy!!!! Anyway.... The CFR300 is way too loud for road use.
  11. My original version is far better, less machine-like, and far less boring. Need I go on?
  12. I have not ridden in ages. This is why I am now so old.
  13. There are a few obvious grammar errors in this writing selection.
  14. I have, most recently, considered enrolling in a writing course. I want to search for my perfect paragraph, during the remaining years left to me. But I do not want an ONLINE course. I want to interact with my teacher.
  15. I knew that. However, IF I had tried to include all pertinent data in the Topic Headline....then..... I would be banned for contravening rules which, as I do recall, I have justifiably been warned about. I would never, again, knowingly do such a thing. Therefore, please bear with me.
  16. I never write posts which sound inhuman, either, although I am sure that you already know.
  17. The dB unit is LOGARITHMIC. Therefore, 96 dB is tremendously louder than 10 dB. The dirt-bikes should stay off the roads. If need be, just truck them to where they will be used. They are a disturbance on both city and country roads. I have studied a LOT of Math in my time.....and you?
  18. As I have mentioned in the past. Efficiency data is provided by the manufacturer, and is unique to each AC design. I always buy a machine with at least a SEER of 24. It matters not, to efficiency, what size you buy....except higher-efficiency units are not the large ones, but somewhere between 9000 BTU and 18,000 BTU. Larger than that, and its more difficult to design a machine which can score about a SEER of 24. =========== After buying the AC, then one can lower operating costs by adding insulation, by ensuring that the outdoor unit does not get hit by direct sunlight, and that the outdoor unit is placed so that it will get proper ventilation from the condenser-unit fan. Also, just for my bedroom, I use a 24,000 BTU unit, even though my bedroom is rather small, by my standards. Finally, if one wishes to oversize the choice of AC unit, then be sure to choose a unit which is a true inverter design. This way, the inverter can supply a range of BTU-cooling during operation. The compressor will then run more slowly when needed, and faster when needed. This is NOT true for a non-inverter design which just turns on and then off, but is unable to vary the speed of the compressor. It's rather simple really. All the info needed is on the net. As to which brand is the best in Thailand? I have no clue, and maybe most are not as good as the same brands when sold to the Japanese market, for example. However, the actual compressors used in the Panasonic brands seem to be the same, no matter what the market might be. Therefore, the Panasonic compressor, meaning the actual compressor and not the compressor unit with a possible problem fan, is quite good, and I think excellent, actually. It's only when the compressor is assembled with potential problem components, such as a defective fan, or thermostat, etc, that there may be a problem. But, I will not say, since I have never bought like 500 units, so that I could get a good samples size, large enough to draw some informed conclusion. In Conclusion: Choose a unit with a SEER of at least 24. And choose a premium brand. And choose an Inverter design, for sure. Then, after one has done all this....It's in God's hands, from there on out.
  19. I knew it. But, there is no law against, occasionally, using it as a verb....is there?
  20. Well, I only mention this because Tramadol and similar drugs can cause addition and difficult withdrawal symptoms. HOWEVER, these difficult withdrawal symptoms might not seriously affect EVERYONE. So, I will not tell you how to safely stop taking Tramadol. This is probably a job of a trained medical professional. I am only saying that I would not take this type of medication for more than a week.
  21. One reason this dirt-bike is not roadworthy is its muffler system. These dirt-bikes are just too noisy for the local roads. They cause much disturbance to the community. And, they are often driven too fast. Also, other reasons these bikes should not be on the roads, which I will mention later, if anyone might be interested.
  22. Dear Folks, Everyone, by now, is aware of the most recent mental-illness-induced truck-related fiasco in the United States, a place where not all receive the medical treatment and support they should have, and probably deserve, as taxpayers. Unfortunately, in the mainstream news, very little serious analysis is provided to us consumers by the air-heads at such news outlets as Fox and Friends. Here is a serious analysis, provided by one of my Favorite Geeks, which sheds light on the dangers of paranoia. In my view, one must be mentally unstable to even consider buying a Cybertruck, if for no other reason than the fact that it is made of stainless steel, just as Superman was the Man of Steel. This speaks to one’s grandiosity in such circumstances as this one. This video is very short, and we can actually learn quite a bit from the second-half of this video. For example, if our friends notice that we are becoming a bit overly paranoid, then our friends will be more ready to intervene before we, too, rent a Cybertruck, and then run amok. So, first, please enjoy this great video analysis. Then, share your thoughts. What turned a special-forces soldier, one who seemed to have been doing all the right things in life, to suddenly drive his Cybertruck down the wrong path in life? I knew you would enjoy this Topic, and this amazing vid. Best regards, Gamma No: I do not suffer from paranoia nor from delusions of grandeur, any more than most of you. I feel sorry to see another human being who did not get the treatment to which he was entitled, after serving his country so bravely and gallantly. Also, this video makes mention of China and Drones, and so I know you will appreciate it.
  23. I am one of the few remaining elite long-stay tourists. I would like to see new rules which make it far easier for me to tourist in Thailand. No more 90-day reports....after 10 years. Also, automatic visa renewal after 10 years. This would be good. Also, after 10 years with no infractions, this is just one less thing the authorities need to worry about. How much more elite does one need to be, than me?
