  1. Why is it that it's usually our fearless leaders who so often talk about this "Trap of 'Welfarism'"?
  2. Clearly, from this cogent testimony; the Japanese many decided to attack first. Perhaps, he had just been waiting for some good opportunity to try out his newly-mastered KickBoxing skills he had picked up in Thailand. Unfortunately, his First Flying Kick did not do the job, and as a result, the Japanese man was soon undone by his thoughtless intervention and lack of sufficient kick-boxing practice. Here is a better testimony than has hitherto been added to this thread. Now, all is clear as mud. Except, we know that there is a video of this incident which may not yet have been released to us here. https://siamrath.co.th/n/590787
  3. PEAK Oil is coming....someday.... Or, actually, Peak Oil has already happened, even though you might not have realized it.
  4. When I first traveled to Taiwan in 1979, and during my first few years there, everybody was talking about peanuts.
  5. I would think this technology might have been very useful at Muan airport:
  6. So then: Why would they construct this very thick earthen barricade so close to the end of the runway (tarmac)? If the aircraft had not hit this barrier, then there was plenty of flat ground ahead. The block wall, behind the earthen barricade might have much more easily given way without breaking up the aircraft. However, clearly, any aircraft hitting the earthen barricade would be stopped dead....which is exactly what seems to have happened here. What is the justification for such a barricade? Is there any? NOTE: For that matter, what is the justification for having the block-wall so close to the runway, or at all. Wouldn't a mesh fence make more sense? Is what we see a good design?
  7. Reuters seems to have the best full video of the emergency landing of this flight, clearly showing impact with barrier: https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/plane-drives-off-runway-crashes-airport-south-korea-yonhap-reports-2024-12-29/ The seating capacity for this aircraft can vary depending on the configuration... https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Jeju_Air/Jeju_Air_Boeing_737-800.php
  8. It really does not matter what you call it. The plane hit a concrete structure and then broke up. The question is: Is this the fault of improper runway design?
  9. Obviously the bird strike, presumably seen here... Caused the aircraft malfunction. However, the logical question might be: a. Is there actually a concrete wall at the end of the runway? b. Why would there be a concrete wall at the end of the runway? c. Was it the barrier at the end of the runway which was principally the most significant factor for loss of life? Looks like the tail section remained fairly intact. ==== Is there a history of similar though less catastrophic events while landing on this runway? ==== The causes (probably multiple) of this crash will require many months before a full report is published.
  10. Great Topic! Certainly this is a condition with which I can easily identify. Here are some potential causes.... So what I do...in most cases, when I get these hunger pangs/pains at 4AM...is.... I eat rice gruel made of .... Congee Rice Tidbits of egg omelette Tuna chunks Just prepare it in advance, and then when you feel the need, some time in the night or early morning hours, ... Just pop the prepared bowl of zhou into the microwave. Slurp it down. Then sleep for another few hours. You might try this if you have this problem. Also, rice congee and rice ZHOU are not the same. Zhou is the Chinese name for the Thai/Chinese dish that looks like this.... rice gruel is xifan rice gruel with pork, shrimp, or egg-omelette tidbits mixed in is called Zhou. This is great stuff late at night. I have no access to shrimp, however, or I would prefer a bowl, as pictured above, in almost all cases.
  11. No, this is/was not my meaning. I was merely pointing out to one commenter here, in particular, that he agrees with me that the Natural Sciences, according to his view and my view, are most important. And, in this we share zero disagreement. He and I can easily agree to not disagree in our views about the Natural Sciences. Do you agree that my original statement, as posted, was correct? Or, do you disagree???
  12. Still, the way Trump is dressed, he reminds me of Father Christmas, so bright is he lit up, almost like a Christmas tree. Almost blindingly bright. And, to quote an old tune.... BLINDED BY THE LIGHT.....
  13. No. My statement, as originally posted, stated my meaning. Meaning is important these days. I meant what I said, and I said what I meant, in this case.
  14. I like the idea of Chicken Soup! Also, you got your Duck Soup, a soup that the Marx Brothers made famous.
  15. I think Musk may be too busy, these days, to hang with prostitutes.
  16. Please feel free to choose from any one of the other bright lights of Greenspan's ilk.
  17. Fortunately there IS Science. We can always agree to agree about the importance of the Natural Sciences, I believe.
  18. The important question is: Do most? And, can you provide some elucidating examples for your statement? (Sorry, I misread your statement. Thought you said: Not all, in stead of Not at all.)
  19. Let's not forget that IF economists were able to do so.... Then... They would be speaking in tongues, or in ancient Greek, or old Latin...instead of their usual esoteric language.... Anything to confuse and obfuscate important issues that affect the well-being of the majority.
  20. You are correct....once again!!!!! It's almost as if the common man, the average consumer, is trying to shoot himself in the foot. So, in effect, we are talking RELIGION, here?
  21. So then, for some reason, you are discounting the effects of unbridled monopolists?
  22. It's now almost impossible to venture forth. I will stay in my compound until at least Jan 15. Then...I MIGHT go the my banking branches....but they were flooded this past week. Where are all these people coming from? I noticed two Russians in one branch this week, here on the outskirts of Chiang Mai?...and it was eyewatering, meaning suprising.
  23. Ahem.....! What fraction of the working poor focus on graphs such as this one? Or this.....? Why does Wall Street hate Chomsky....anyway?
  24. Yes. Also, the same garb was worn by the gals of China Airlines. But, some slits were higher than others. I think China Airlines might have broken the record back in the 1980s.
