Banking been stopped!!!!!!!!!!!
KhunLA replied to slappy's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I keep my (brother's) USA address at my brokerage (Fidelity) as my company pension gets deposited into it. Social Security goes straight to BBL, and SS & IRS are aware of that, obviously, using TH home & PO Box addresses. -

Only time I ate in school cafe, was Wednesday, Hoagie Day. Usually got 2 or 3, go to the park adjacent to the Convent behind our school. Wash down with wine, and a few doobies. Needless to say, we missed a lot of Wednesday afternoon classes. Which was the norm, as the movie theater's matinee (cheap price/50 cents) changed on Wednesdays also. So if not at the park stoned, then at the movies ever couple weeks when new flicks came in.

If looking for a new car, now is a great time to buy, ICE or EV, as one hell of a price war going on in TH. Highly recommend you check out the MG promotions on MG site. Need to click on promotions, as the site doesn't show the prices on front page, when selecting car model ... kind of strange. Everything listed, I'd definitely take over any comparable JP badged POS made in TH. Goes for BYD, GWM, NETA ... JP is falling so far behind with their junk, mind boggling. Still riding that old fake dependably reputation that died a long time ago ... IMHO When the tires fall your car, does make you wonder Strange the promo for MG4 is actually up ฿10k from last promo.

didn't know you were asking for that ... don't you have google EV on sale now for August Got to keep up with that BYD Atto 3 pricing And mine is insured for ฿840k ... kind of wish someone would steal it, and we'd get a new one

Top 10 troubles you will find during retirement in Thailand
KhunLA replied to CharlieH's topic in General Topics
A very wee bit of research, and a well planned retirement avoids all that silliness in the OP. An intelligent person would live in TH, or foreign country, for at least 1 year, before burning their bridges in home country. -
MG ZS EV cost ฿869k on rotating sale (as low as ฿829k), and ฿949k when not on sale. So you may need to adjust those numbers, as only 70k or 30k more if lucky enough to follow the sale and snag one on sale. So ฿224k is way off. And if people are counting pocket change when making big purchases, maybe they should get a Ciaz or Wuling Air. Or stick to a MC, Ebike or bicycle. Maybe walk and lose a few kgs. Certainly wouldn't hurt a few too many folks that I see

Reference to ? If you mean charging at home, yes, some is lost, but I also used ฿5/kWh/unit, which I don't think any homeowner is charged, unless really abusing the AC for a large house. I don't think we've been charged ฿4/kWh/unit in the last 2 years, though our largest PEA bill was only 111 kWh/units, I think. (Sept 2023 / 3.9 per kWh)

Oh yea, and if you live in a hilly area, it will use much less energy, as the regen is amazing. When at Khao Kho, Phetchaburi and especially Bo Kluea, Nan, we were actually adding kms to the range, for short distance through the hills. Even during a short stretch of road between Doi Inthanon Nat Park and Mae Chaem, Chiang Mai, we were actually adding more than using ...

First year, we drove just shy of 20kms, and IF, all local driving. Actual comparison (ball park) of MG ZS ICE vs EV .. for about the 10th, maybe 20th time posting. Cost to go 20k kms of local mixed driving (30-60-90 kph) ~฿52.4k .. MG ZS ICE using 91 @ ฿36.68 per L / today's price ~฿13k ... MG ZS EV using PEA @ home, rounded up @ ฿5/kWh/unit ~฿0 ... MG ZS EV using Solar @ home Actually that works for 90kph on the highway, if you can manage that, though we average 70-80 kph when O&A. Longest stretch of 90 kph consistently is PKK to Pranburi (first traffic light) when headed to Hua Hin or Krung Thep. Then it's mixed driving, 30-60-90-110 kph. Southward from PKK to Chumphon, forget where 1st traffic light is. No 120 kph speed limits southbound, so 90 kph max, if & when possible. Rare when close to Chumphon or beyond. Y'all can bookmark this, or save photo below for future, repetitive, quite annoying, reference.

Just installed 7.7 kWPV and 6.2 kW inverter
KhunLA replied to atpeace's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
6200 watts = 6.2 kilowatts, and should be subtracting about that amount from the meter per hour, if holds. Take a photo (or write down) what meter is, then do again in an hour. Just make sure meter reader doesn't see it spinning backwards. Don't ever spin it back past your last meter reading I've spun back 20-30kWh in a day, as tester of course. Irrelevant, as when they replaced our temp meter, it was replaced with a digital, as all new construction is here/PKK. Inverter told me I spun back 158kWh in 8 days (test) days, if memory serves. Lower 'purple' is export, and all excess I could run another house with our excess solar, on sunny days, and that day was cloudy, hence the peaks & valleys. -

KhunLA replied to atpeace's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Me ... installed 2 yrs ago @ 67 yrs old, and knocking on 70 come December. I'm more just being spiteful to PEA ... no more baht for them. Same with owning EVs, no more baht for big oil. Hate monopolies, though the better performance of the EVs was worth it alone. Being a spiteful old fart has it's advantages 😎 Independence is amazingly gratifying. -

That's what the 'paint' app is for, makes anything look better. Well done ... welcome to solar. You'll love it, every month when the PEA/MEA bill arrives. -
Looking to buy a new SUV - any recommendations?
KhunLA replied to fezza's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Might want to read back a few pages, as OP may be a bit more open minded than when first posted. Hybrid crossed his mind already, and with further research, who knows @fezza If he realizes more than enough CS between Phuket - Bangkok - Phetchabun (Khao Kho), it may even sway his decision more. As I've driven those routes many times, and more than enough CS along the way, and actually the whole of TH. I've been to both Phuket & Phetchabun, and beyond, a few times since owning our EV. Never a charging issue. Real life experience over BS spewed by other non EV owners. We live in Prachuap Khiri Khan, for reference. -
Suggestions for a new, not to expensive, laptop for retiree.
KhunLA replied to khaepmu's topic in IT and Computers
You should be able to find one in the ฿16-฿20k price range. I've seen them advertised with decent spec for that price. I'm an ASUS fan, though edit vids & photos, so need better specs. Specifically a bit more RAM & graphic card that isn't integrated, as those 2 requirements, push the price pass ฿20k to ฿30k. Doesn't seen you'll need the extra specs, though does make things run a lot smoother. Make sure you buy from a manufacturer's site or an authorized reseller of. From another thread, found this laptop, and would be well worth spending the few extra baht for it, even though better specs than you really need. I'd get that, if I could find a vendor that still carries it, if not out of your budget. -
US Supreme Court Blocks Expanded Transgender Protections
KhunLA replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Seems about the correct ruling. I guess biden forgot he lives in a Republic, and social issues are decided by the states, not Federal laws. Males will use the male toilets, and compete against males in sports Females will continue to feel safe in the toilet and not be dominated by males in female sports. HINT ... you have a penis, you ARE a male. Call yourself what you want, but you ARE a male. -
Looking to buy a new SUV - any recommendations?
KhunLA replied to fezza's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Their chart is a bit off, and the EP has same size battery as the ZS. #1. This is TH not the USA #2. Really wouldn't trust anything the EPA says Real life experience over corrupt govt agency. UP2U... But I don't want to sit in a car for 3-4 hrs. I try to avoid DVT, and like to eat once in awhile, stretch the legs, P at a toilet, not in a bottle while driving. Actually enjoy the journey. Notice the chart states the NETA V & MG ZS/EP are about the same, even though the MGs have about 25% more battery -

KhunLA replied to fezza's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The MG EP and our ZS have the same specs, almost, and we get 3-4 hrs on Thai roads before the need to top up. Surely after 3 - 4 hours on the road, or sooner, you are going to stop. Simply charge when you do. We've taken long trip, even during long weekends, and never a problem. Owning a BEV has added little, if any, time to our journeys. People that don't own EV, obviously don't realize that. If you have the Seal, do you really won't to be on the road and not stop for 6-8 hrs, as if that is even possible with a wife and or kids in the car. What world do you live in ? -
