  1. Not really. Just enjoy cooking and prefer to eat quality food prepared properly, in AC comfort with nice view & uninterrupted by rude noisy, inconsiderate people, along with all the other noise & air pollution. Like my hot food served hot, and cold served cold, and at the same time. Not waiting, or finishing my meal before wife's even arrives or she already finished. All without the need to swat flies. Lobster (Maine) & salmon isn't cheap, or quality cheeses. From Cafe LA Or just straight up
  2. I pay VAT & road tax in TH USA taxes: ... RE; local, county, state (to live in house that's paid for) ... school tax (I had no children) ... income (2X since leaving USA @ 40% rate) ... sales ... luxury sales https://www.facebook.com/reel/316019691146627
  3. That's a long piece of string with way too many variables.

  5. Haven't found anything in the MG manual about running it low, then charging it up to 100%. Just to charge up to 100%, occasionally, with 'slow charger' / <7kw, which is strange, as they supply you with a 7.4kW wall charger. I use the emergency charger (2.3kW) 99% of the time anyway, so guess OK there. When talking about equalization charging, it does reference the wall charger times. Supposedly, will tell my if needing to do, which I doubt I'll ever see that msg, as I top up to 100% quite often. Almost always, which is more than a few times month, especially during rainy season, as charge when I can, not when needed. Gets to 85ish %, and I'm plugging in 😂 Unless O&A locally, then takes couple days sometimes to top back up. My E-MB, I take down to 2 bars (20-30%) before plugging in, since not LFP. Although I do top up/100%, which I probably shouldn't. Oh well. 2 yrs, and not loss in range noticed, though hard to tell.
  6. Better than the next 5 pages of handbags & pissing contest about golfing
  7. That part was easy for me, and just another day, but a different location. Never really settled anywhere, and moved (followed the money) more than a few times. Best, most exciting thing, is actually living a life, not prepping for retirement. Actually living in a house I like, and not an investment, temp living to be rented out later, when moving on to the next project. A long term relationship, a daughter, new cars, instead of hold me over POS, (some nice & fun...but), along with stress free and not thinking about the future. All pretty exciting and brings a big A$$ smile to my face when thinking about it. Wasn't one to work overseas, so as you say, leaving that comfort zone or 45 years, and actually enjoying living in a country, tropical surfside to top it off on the other side of the planet, is pretty cool. Made easier without any real ties to the old life, or leaving people behind.
  8. I just picked one up, regret not doing so much earlier. I buy some cheeses (Mozella & parmesan) in bulk (1 or 2 kg). They freeze well, Cheddar you have to grate first, then freeze. Great when making a batch of sausage. Making scapple today or tomorrow. I can't eat peanuts fast enough, and make peanut butter in 250gr batches. It all keeps much longer vacuum sealed.
  9. Bungee jumping ... especially since I'm not a fan of heights. Best thing that happened ... daughter adopted us, legally as parents Best thing I did ... sold 1st house & land, w/POA Honorable mentions: ... quit paying taxes ... quit dependence on petrol fuel ... quit dependence on grid ... getting all my tax dollars back via Soc Sec for past 23 yrs ... and being a blight on society And I'm only 69 yrs old, (next month) Better choices = more smiles
  10. That will be at the discretion of the officer if stopped. Yet to see any of the many, e-bikes/scooter (non MB size / looking) pulled over and being questioned. Lax enforcement of even the helmet law here/PKK municipality. YMMV, but I'd be surprised if anyone cited for the EMs. Although for same baht, you could get a much better spec'd DECO.
  11. Thanks. Just happen to be in that area 'Wang Kaew' while O&A exploring, years back. Didn't actually go there for the beach, but did turn out to be a nice day/sunset a the beach.
  12. Our latest O&A was a 'drive up' at PTT using EV Station Pluz (EV SP), and not issues plugging in. On a Saturday afternoon, no Q. AND ... machine didn't reset at 55 mins after the hour. Thankfully they did away with that silliness. We never reserve at EV SP. Only reserve, occasionally, at MG & PEA Volta, depending on location of. And only about 10 minutes before arrival, no fees involved to reserve. One thing did happen at EV SP last visit, as I went to P, and stretch legs, after it started charging. Cam back and inside car was warmer than expected, so check why & progress of charging, and it had stopped .... "Honey, you didn't notice that ?" 🙄 Simply restarted it. Don't know if it was reserved and nobody showed, or machine just had an oops.
  13. Been there a few time (give it a fair shake), not for the bar scene, and still wouldn't return. Only plus is more western food, hopefully better options, which I can find most anywhere, though usually don't order out anyway, as disappointing. Beach sucks, and I don't go to a beach to take a ferry to a beach (Ko Larn). Overpriced tourist (trap) sites, that don't interest us. No reason to go east of Krung Thep. If so, then Wang Kaew area, and a beach you can actually swim in, if cooperating, without all the negaitives (congestion, tourist) of Patts. Last thing i want to see while O&A is 1000s of western tourists, or any tourists. I can simply pop up to Hua Hin for that, only 1 hr away.
  14. OR, you can pay a bit more, for off hours service (Q jumping), as I did at the govt hospital. Certainly beats the airport hassle & cost of flying out of TH, w/hotel stays of 3+ days, (from OP) IF they will even take you early.
  15. Old new ... already being done, and simply a common sense use for them.
  16. About the 2 worst place to watch a stranger bag. The constant warnings of notifying authorities if you see an unattended bag didn't seem to sink in then 😮
  17. Not a fan of Patts, so even if fluent in Thai, I wouldn't live there, or anywhere, just because English might be spoken a bit more. Been around the whole country, and yet to 'need' the Thai language. Less so now with G-translate. Easier if knowing the very basic Thai, but simply not needed.
  18. @simon43 At a guess, I suspect you injured a ligament, that simply never healed correctly, after repeated agitation/injury. Most do heal themselves over time, if allowed, others simply do not, as the tear is too much to heal by itself. Since intense pain when extended when behind your back would indicate that. Less chance it's a tendon, as they do heal better than ligament, and don't require surgery as much. Disclaimer: I am NOT a Dr
  19. You could simply stop paying people to make things for you, and simply make your own ham. Pork loin, tenderloin, shoulder/butt in the <150 baht a kg range. Live by your choice 😎
  20. (or any idiot who is running on empty in any vehicle) https://www.facebook.com/reel/736120741888742
  21. Not in TH, for the 2 reasons below And not back in the USA, unless they opened that bag and let me see 'everything' that was in it. Error on the side of caution, as any 'unattended bag is suspect' in the 21st Century. SAFETY (mine) FIRST Live longer and happier with better choices, as I'm not in this world to make friends with strangers.
  22. If I saw this thread, I probably mentioned it earlier... ... Kata Mama Seafood
  23. Don't know what the excise tax is for larger than 1.5L engines, but when the excise rebate was available 2011/12, we bought a Mazda 2 @ 515k baht, and got the max rebate available of 100k baht, so almost 20% of the MSRP. Then the 7% VAT was still include in that price, so about 25% tax, just for a 1.5L engine, entry level, 'made in TH' vehicle. Not even sure if the 100k rebate was the full excise tax, but the max available for rebates.
