They've been predicting nuclear war for as long as I can remember. Over 60+ years, back in the day when everyone wanted a bomb shelter/cellar All they did was add more silly scenarios. 1973 we were running out of oil/gas, when the refineries in Philly, PA were full up, but simply simply not delivering to stations. Of course, shortages of everything else on the shelves, with silly price increases. Along with all the other human existence ending BS ... Now it's pandemics, GW, CC/MMCC. Every bug and CC influencing shortages & rise in prices everywhere. Sheeple believe anything they're told ... kind of embarrassing really

Would you buy a Farang Home?
KhunLA replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
We wouldn't buy any pre-built house, as prices have been silly. We simply contracted the builder, to build on our land. In our 3rd house. At least 1/2 the price per m², and as good or better materials. One builder in Udon Thani didn't even earth the electric ing the house, or use 3 prong plugs. Said they didn't have to, since they bought the land before it was mandatory buy law/ordinance Had to pay extra for earthing, and these were ฿7-10M houses & up Most used cinder & red block, no insulation ... just crap IMHO Not saying our builds were perfect, and needed tweaks along the way, and afterwards. But far better than what was on offer that we saw. -
The 2.8L Fortuner cost more than 2X the EP though.

Yes, some of these quotes are silly, and you need to shop around. We got 3 quotes; ฿12k & ฿22k baht, and what we have ฿9,930 Comparing low tech imports from JP, with higher tech EV from CH. Apple & orange comparisons, along with more depreciation on the ICEV. Our experience anyway. MG ZS EV covered for ฿840k, while new ZS now cost ฿829k on sale. That Mazda 3 gets totaled, do you get new car ... NO Not our fault people paid too much for their high cost maintenance & operating ICEV. All about the same coverage.

You have $5,000 a month in the USA
KhunLA replied to Cryingdick's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
Plenty of places to rent for <$800 a month. Not everyone wants to live in the expensive metro or beach areas. -
That's a wee bit more than some

300 units shouldn't be over 1400 baht. https://eservice.pea.co.th/EstimateBill/

Energy monitoring system.
KhunLA replied to CharlesHolzhauer's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
To add to that ... our overnight, non producing hours are from about 1800 - 0800 hrs, so 14 hrs +/- of no solar production. We do not have any East facing panels, or it would be producing earlier. Our panels are due S & W. I estimated the system size based on old house bills, and they topped out about 1000kWh a month. Our best days of production/usage are about 50kwh, so we in that 50% extra range. That's really being abusive with AC usage. New (present) house build had more thought to better construction, shading & insulation. Along with quality inverter ACs, and really makes a difference. Which worked out perfect for us. As we decided to get EVs, as an after thought. Our system is 8kW inverter. Panels will produce 9.7kW (if 100%), Inverter will accept 8.8kWh, and put out 8kW. More than enough for us. 50kWh on those hot sunny days, while abusing our AC use. Also, just as important, enough for us, on those really crappy, overcast, rainy days, and barely producing enough to recharge the ESS / batteries back to 100%, before nightfall. Usually ESS topped up between 1000-1200 hrs. On crap days, might take to just prior to 1800 hrs. Hindsight, after <2 yrs of having solar, two 5kWh inverters would have been better, providing a bit more juice (though haven't needed) but more so, giving redundancy, in case one inverter crapped out. If ours does have an oops, we are still conx to the grid, JIC, and only cost 26 baht a month, if no usage. -
I think ours is 5 yrs free roadside assistance. Purchased 2022, then in 2023, I think they changed it to 4 yrs, then back to 5 yrs in 2024.

Energy monitoring system.
KhunLA replied to CharlesHolzhauer's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Or ... you could simply look at your monthly electric bill, (if in TH), as has a 6 month history of usage on it. If needing more data, year's worth, the surely they have on record ... simply ask. Simply pick your highest monthly usage, (ours: March/April) increase it by 50%, and base the system on that. Can't go wrong estimating more than needed. -
I gave up after about 45 mins, actually fell asleep. Rewound to were I dozed off, gave it 5 mins, then fast forwarded, peek if any interesting. Then deleted it. Lopez & AI buddy routine wasn't working for me, add it's mostly CGI, and not that good, didn't leave much of interest.

I would not book more than 1 week in Bangkok, actually less, first 3 nights. Going to Hua Hin, hotels jack their rates up, some considerably on the weekend. so if wanting to save a few baht, better to be there during weekdays.

NO ... for simple reason, there's no profit to be made. A pandemic ... more likely, very profitable war in oil producing country ... yea, more profits end to UA/RU conflict, no, too profitable end to mid east/jews/muslims conficts ... definitely no end to MMCC/CC/GW ... no, too profitable

Hamas Plots Attacks on Israeli Embassy and U.S. Military Base in Germany

"Hamas Plots Attacks on Israeli Embassy and U.S. Military Base in Germany" ... of course they do. Was the author of the report named Christopher Steele by chance -
I ignore the couple nay sayers. Walking stick / cane is minor, and shouldn't hold you back from getting around. Just take care, as many walkways are not level, and easy to take a tumble if not paying attention. If your endurance walking is OK for couple hundred meters, you won't have any real issues. T21 is OK, decent food court, and some chain restaurants (non fast food) Sunrise Taco for example. Or a Whopper if your preference, and Wing Zap (spicy wings) from KFC compliment any munchy fix. Definitely pop into ICONSIAM, for a much better mall experience. the indoor 'floating market' is better than most outdoor tourist attractions of the same genre. River cruise/taxi is nice. Now have E-MV w/AC, a bit more comfy. Get one that stops at pier N10, present name Prannok, used to Wang Lang, even something else. Point is, Wang Lang market is short stroll away. May interest, and has some AC restaurants there also, if the heat gets to you. On that, it is rainy season, so expect some, some sunshine (hot) and some nice overcast skies. No air pollution as previously mentioned, except local traffic on walkways next to busy streets. Stay out of public trans; taxis, rail bus during rush hour. Might want to use the after dinner time for lounging around pool, reflecting. Booking.com is one of the best booking sites, for info and decent rates. DO NOT BOOK TOO MUCH IN ADVANCE. Personally, I wouldn't book more than first 3 nights, then go on the fly from there. 3 weeks is a very long time for 1 destination. Knocking around town is easy, use Google maps, and get to know it. Besides BTS/MRT don't discount the bus system. I use it quite a lot when at Bangkok. Will get you closer to some places. Decide what you want to see; iconic places, of just knocking around town. River cruise is nice, especially if cruising by Wat Arun at sunset, great photo opt, though rainy season may affect that. Any type of budget, and ฿2000 a night will get you a comfy place, w/pool and maybe nice brekkie, if a breakfast person. I'm not, so usually don't get. You can stay for less ฿1000+/-, though you get what you pay for. If plan on being out most of the day, not a pool person, you can definitely save some baht, if wanting. I would stay near the river myself, unless wanting adult nightlife. Also the iconic sites are closer to the river. Staying either side of the river isn't a problem as ferries are frequent. If planning on using BTS/MRT (rail lines) quite a bit, get a top up/debit card for each, so no Q'ing for change or tokens. Worth the small charge for the card, in wait or hassles with Qs. Top up as you think you'll need so no excess when you depart on card. And give to someone if there is, they'll appreciate it, as not an inexpensive means of transport for the working stiffs. MRT has senior discount (1/2 price) so ask for that. A couple not iconic places you might want to knock around at; Ko Kret/Pak Kret/Chit Beer for some suds, open weekends only, and nice little island to explore. A canal market; Khlong Bang Luang Floating Market If you get bored with Bangkok, maybe pop over to Kanchanburi or down to Hua Hin.

Daughter and myself use to walk around the malls, or where ever. Past her puberty age, and say up until 18ish, and she liked holding my hand or arm at the time, as parents or even non sexual friends do. Man, the stares I used to get from some folks, especially farangs women in particular, on the rare occasion seeing us. More so at food courts in Krung Thep, since more tourist in one spot, and you can tell immediately what they're thinking. Some how it just didn't dawn on some that she was my daughter. Says more about their moral mental state, if that's the first thing crossing their mind.

Yea ... I think he's done as a political opponent. Which in itself is scary for the USA. If biden gets the nod from Dems, it's even scarier thinking harris will finish out his term. -
