If Not TAPHOPHOBIA: What’s Your Favorite Phobia?
KhunLA replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Heights, although, not consistent. I was a chimney sweep, wise choice, although once on a roof, nothing bothered me. Going from ladder to roof, scared the hell out of me. I bungy jumped, going up & jumping, no problem. Looked over the edge when up, and thought to myself, W T F, are you an idiot, and had to back up, as got dizzy. The jump & rubber band effect was one of the best rushes, & laughing I've ever had. Jumped out of a perfectly good plane (static line), straddled under the wing, 1 foot on the platform above the wheel, w/hand hold bar, looking 1000s of meters down, no problem, actually pretty damn cool. Balconies & rooftops, not problem, but I can't look down over the edge of a balcony, if say 5+ stories high. I actually get dizzy/vertigo feeling. Bridges. cliffs, no matter how high, even if can see through, rickety bridges, and no problem. -
I successfully did my first online one while O&A, and processed in 3 days, and that, over the weekend. The hoops you have to jump through ... stressful ???? At home, I actually enjoy going to the local Imm for 90 day pulse check. Gets me out of the house, nice country ride on scooter, and I'm usually the only one there, or if Q'd up (sometimes a stack of PP/per agent) for something else, they take me as soon as I walk in. OK, low key, out of the way Imm office, just wish they did extensions there, instead of the 100 km drive to Hua Hin, though good for day out of shopping & munch. 1-2 hrs a year ain't going to stress me out.

Depending what 'dump' you're staying in, I'd be more concerned about fellow guest ripping me off, than 'working' staff. I've yet to have a problem, even when staying at Suk 11 GH/hostel, though travel with my own lock. I've upgraded my accommodations over the years, and most ma/pa GH, you need to get by the staff to get to the rooms, or bungalows down a drive. Most staff being long term employees or family. Locks are only good for honest people, if a thief wants in, they'll get in. Easier prey elsewhere with less risk (cctv) of getting caught, with higher pay offs. Even the Ibis s we use, the staff doesn't seem to change much. A good sign. Other places having key card entry into buildings. Better choices = happier travels ... just a thought.

I'm not sure about the reliable part, as I've gotten scripted glasses from 3 different chains, and didn't tell them my script on purpose, to see how accurate they are, they've all been spot on. Lenses made accordingly. I find the frames really jack up the price here. Cost wise, haven't a clue, as been 10 yrs probably since I bought a pair. Here's a thought for some folks, if a minor script, mine are/were 25/50, and last pair of scripted shades I bought, I went 1 level darker, oops, and didn't like them at all, as too dark. Haven't worn for years, as in 7+ years. Put them on a while back, and they did the opposite, make me vision blurry. Apparently, my eyes corrected themselves, from age & not wearing. So try not to wear them all the time, if you can get by without them. Shades I wore all the time, and I had a clear pair for night time driving, which I don't do much here. But while O&A recently, did try my clear glasses, only to find out they're useless now.

Actually, them Yanks picked tipping up from them Euro folks. "But wealthy Americans, visiting Europe, brought the practice to the U.S. in the mid-1800s, unsurprisingly eager to mimic European customs. " Yank origin of ...

I don't have a tipping practice here, as very rare to do.

After having the E-MB, would never consider one with ICE. Performance, ease of automatic and smooth ride vs top end or range, both I don't need in a MB. No real complaints about my Honda Wave, but I didn't enjoy riding it, or maintaining it, or putting petrol in it to ride. Plus I get that warm and fuzzy feeling, from not adding to the local air & noise pollution with EV. Which disgust me when I'm in traffic with the ICEVs. That's just arrogant & rude ... ???? After the light changes, thankfully, they are all behind me ???? Did I mention performance ?

That would really depend on which Big C, which brand/model (current) and of course, who is installing it vs price. Would hope anyone buying is researching the brand & models available, before just buying of the display. Read the specs & ratings.

A lot has changed, for the good in four years, but also, a lot hasn't, as market is flooded with E-scooters (stand up), ebikes, and ebikes (in name only), and more like mini MBs, just happen to have pedals. With different battery chemistries. Really have read the specs, and know what you are buying. Some of the specs are silly & deceptive. Range ratings are always at a low speed. As are speed ratings, with low load, or even without load ???? Need to know battery size for motor. I see a lot that advertise way over their capabilities with the specs. Battery v/Ah has to match or exceed your motor size at least or you're not going very fast or far. V X Ah = W. Mine for example, has upgrade battery now, a wee bit. Motor 3000w Battery Type LITHIUM Battery/Battery Capacity 73v/58Ah 73v X 58Ah = 4234w ???? A very simplistic guide, with other factors, weight/load, controller.

Don't the sites give you that information, to base decision on, time/cost/S&H & duty estimates if any. Your buying it, not us ... ????

DECO SUSU model, and shy of 2 yrs owning, I'm bored, so early report. Maybe a month early, as have photo of, Sept 2021. Motor warranty will expire shortly, and have 1 yr left on the battery, which from above post, if lost anything, not noticeable. Have about 5500 kms on it, which means I drive that about half the time, on my daily, morning park/surfside cruise. 5500÷730 days, so rain & brutally hot keeps me & dog off it, half the days. Me & wife have taken some local cruises on it, and <1 hr probably. Only 1 oops, turning signal relay crapped out, and they sent it straight away, overnight. Swapped it out myself, as easier and quicker than dealer doing, since 70 kms away. Wife told me, that we now have a local dealer @ Yamaha/Honda & other, scooter shop. Very happy with it, performance, fun to ride & cost to operate, with no maintenance. Registered/tagged & insured (basic). Recommend the brand, and E-MBs themselves, as long as you don't plan on going too fast (top end) or too far. They also qualify for govt incentives. https://decogreenenergy.com/index.php/th/

No interest myself, as TH is 3rd world enough. Not my photo, SR, March 2023 Credit: burksida from elsewhere

Agree with part of that, as all phones seem to come with 'fast' chargers. No better, faster way to degrade them, than fast charge them all the time. Along with batteries you can't change yourself. I think they've just about ran out of any real tech upgrades people need, so lets just kill the batteries. sell sell sell

Is Manila cheaper to live in than Bangkok?
KhunLA replied to ASEAN NOW News's topic in Philippines General Chat
I would use the comparison without the rent, as that's very subjective. Find their other info is fairly decent +/- a wee bit on most things. -
Yes & No, but for the OP, we would have to know which Big C it's coming from and their policy. That's one of those long piece of thread question.

Ah ... the Grace Hotel, and the 1st hotel I ever stayed at in TH, 1999. Recommended by coworker who used it frequently. How to say this nicely ... I never took any of his recommendations afterwards. Worst hotel I think I've ever stayed at, and didn't care for location. Actually turned me off BKK, and simply used it as stopover on future visits. Usually staying at Suk 11 GH, on Suk 11, on future visits, finally warming up to BKK. Until they took the parking away, (GH gone now) then had to stay elsewhere. I actually leave my laptop in the room now, under the covers. Dog is usually in room w/'do not disturb' sign on door. Hotels may be 'pet friendly', but she is not. Usually leave camera gear in car, if can find shade w/window cracked open. Most hotels we stay at I feel quite secure, possessions wise, and will leave in room. Money, wallet, ID/PP always on person or in car. Only time we're not near the car is in Krung Thep area, as usually won't drive there. Which case the dog is with us in the car, and still laptop in the bed. Just have to remember not to sit on it when we return. I won't really stay in a hotel I don't feel comfortable leaving stuff in the room. Camera gear isn't cheap, so stays in the car.

I like the ones that have the trophy 'wife' or 'girlfriend', that they see maybe 4-8 weeks out of the year ... if that.

Assuming it's going to be used locally, pop into your local PoPo station, and ask them. Legally, if not registered, with plates. I can't see it being legal to drive on the streets. But, I see plenty of 2-3-4 wheeled EVs, with no plates, and yet to see one getting cited for anything. E-scooter, ebikes, motorcycle, 3 wheel mobility scooter, and 4 wheeled 'golf cart' types, all seem to be unregistered/no plates & tolerated where I am. I doubt if you'll get a definitive answer, as I'll so 'no', and surely someone will come along and 'correct me' telling me yes, legal. You get the same discussion with ebike. Me-motor + 2 or 3 wheels, it is motorcycle, others come on and spout, if 350w or 250w motor then no need, but nowhere can they show that written in Thai law.

I think all of ours, except 1 (Sharp) were from HomePro & Mitsubishi units, 3 houses, 10 units (4/4/2) and never an issue, along with competitively prices. Present 2, inverter (heavy duty) and excellent, using very little electric. One running almost 24/7, the other 6-8hr a day.
