  1. $300 is not ridiculously expensive, and Chester is far from the most dangerous places in the Philly area, let alone the country. I lived there, and never had an issue. Brother just moved from, and also, never had an issue. I could live on $1200 a month in Chester with no problem. Though would rather be here, as pointed out by EK above. AND ... McD does pay $15 a hour, that's $2400-taxes more a month. EASY LIVING. Choices make all the difference ... not excuses. How does one get to retirement age, with no pot to pis in.
  2. Do you wear a seat belt, I've never needed one of those either ... ... nuff said.
  3. Why have if can't have instant access to it. That's just silly.
  4. Never lived in fear, but nothing wrong with prepping for the worst, JIC. I'm sure there's quite a few folks around regretting they didn't have. Highly doubt there is anyone that regrets they stopped a crime because of having.
  5. That thought crossed my mind. Still waiting to test some of the cheap brick the wife is getting offered. Sure as hell can't smoke it all if I do buy. Let us know how many slices, grams eating it takes to get a buzz. My GreenLab Thai Stick arrived at Chumphon in the wee hours this morning, Might show up tomorrow, or very surprised later today. Planted 6 seeds in 3 Jiffys, only 2 took, and potted today. About 6cm tall after 1 ish week.
  6. Ah yes ... but does anyone actually need all that c r a p MSM tells us that we do. I was a collector, hobbyist, actually firearms dealer (FFL), so I had a sh!tload of guns, never needed 1. Chances of someone being a victim of a violent crime is ridiculously low, depending where you live, but I lived in neighborhood 'people wouldn't venture to' and never a problem. Only reason we have the shotgun, is it was in the family, and her brother (lives in USA) didn't know what to do with it, until I joined the family. Nobody else wanted it, or that he'd trust to have it. Only have a few shells for it. MSM ... crime crime crime ... FBI stats ... down down down, year after year.????
  7. By not being concerned, I mean don't offer an address, unless you know landlord did submit a TM30. When I do my pulse checks, I hand him PP, and he hands it back. Our entire conversation is me saying Thank You. I'm never asked where I live or need to fill in the form. Of course if living with your partner, at their residence, then he/she will need to do before you advise Imm of address change. No expat/tourist should ever pay a TM30 fine.
  8. Don't need, just happen to have. Same as in USA, actually carried a Glock, never needed. The wall is for privacy, and more so not to offend, while going al' natural ???? As long as I'm not home, they can take what they want, just don't break anything. I use to leave the kitchen door unlocked in Udon Thani when out of town. 95k baht worth of glass wall, I didn't want them to break. If they want in, they are getting in.
  9. Try GreenLeaf, out by the airport. Use to be a favorite of ours: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Greenleaf+Hydrofarm+%26+Restaurant/@16.455786,102.7824213,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x312261c739d75aa1:0xfed8479391e7df53!8m2!3d16.455786!4d102.78461
  10. Lived in Chester for years, and nothing wrong with it, depending what area, as with everywhere. Just pointing out the 'don't believe' everything, all the doom & gloom read. Went with a place I personally know, knew. My brother just got married, and moved out of Chester last year, selling his home for $55k. Actually was a house I owned and gave to him, since he needed it more than I needed the income it generated (Sec 8 ????). Only negative is probably the worst school district in the state. No kids, no prob. Better than homeless or living out of car, for mere $300 a month. With McDs paying $15 an hour. Easy living.
  11. Why we wonder why we even go out to eat. Laziness & boredom is the only reasons I can think of. As we can usually do better at home, with few exceptions. Pastries being the main exception, as some are quite time consuming to make. Along with if I make at home, then I have to each all or half the cake or pie, instead of that 1 serving out. I think 7 out of 10 eating outside the house is just that, pastry & coffee for us. Gets us out of the house, and they usually can't screw it up. Wife made Mexican the other night, I'll call it 'tacos' and better than any I've ever had here/TH.
  12. Lots of the chain (mall) restaurants simply heat up their off site prepared meals. Simply not having the space, cooks, time to store & prepare meals. Easy to know if said restaurant does, simply ask to substitute something off the menu, say mashed instead of chips. Hopefully better than airline food, although I've actually had better in First Class than what some restaurants have served up ???? Along with 'generic' bland flavor, which is safe for them, but sadly, most not supplying condiment to tweak to taste. Makes you wonder what silliness is next in the restaurant world. A row of vending machines, pick you meal and use the row of microwaves to heat up. With the privilege of sitting in their restaurant ... ... new chain "TV Dinner's Out" - unique dining experience.
  13. Seems your wife is correct, I think. Hope it wasn't expensive, as you found out, 200k doesn't cover much. Why I'm a bit Anti-insurance.
  14. I need to order food on my phone's tiny A$$ screen, at a restaurant ... ... that will never happen.
  15. Landlord should do the TM30, and you'll need to advise Imm when doing the 90 day pulse check of address change, though make sure your landlord DID the TM30, or he/she may be fined for not. If landlord hasn't done, then I wouldn't concern myself till extending. Then it's on the landlord if does or not. As long as you have your lease for extension.

    Cost of Living

Those comparisons need to be taken with huge grain of salt. Good ballpark reference, but that's about it. Just compared Hua Hin to Prachuap KK, and some seemed right, while others were way off: Milk 60 vs 43, should be exactly the same VW Golf 1.5 m vs 850k ... that's just silly
  17. Very nice. Hope they release a price before the MG arrives, though suspect it will be tad more than I would hope for, 1.2m or there about. Though I really don't feel like waiting any longer than this year. 600 km range is impressive, though I wouldn't need it. That's round trip to Krung Thep though, if squeezing most of it out, and would be nice not to top up away from the house. 560 kms R/T to daughter's house. Anything more the 250 kms away from home and I'm probably overnighting it anyway.
  18. Wife's been quoted some silly cheap prices. Still waiting on samples. Does seem everyone has it or knows someone who does now. No fears of arrest, vs whern in Udon for 16 ish years, and only knew of 1 persona selling, though TBH, really didn't seek it out.
  19. Old Mossberg 12g Swords & blades were inexpensive, and c r a p really. Nothing like I had back in states, proper Jap swords from WWII. Along with the standard 2m wall, though for privacy & keep the snakes out, well, try to. Don't think most need to worry when home, between walls & soi dogs (alarms), most are dumb enough to do home invasions. Just when out & about is a concern, and if not there, well, don't really care, and so far, so good, no probs, and we're out a lot.
  20. No argument there, just wanted some current, and also why I pointed out 5:00 of vid, try to spare you. Just to show there's more than 2 bars, as implied, nothing for the bar seeking tourist/expat, being 10 ish at one location
  21. Unfamiliar with TS, and after G'ing, can't say anything he wrote would be of interest to me. I don't do poetry, and none of his plays stand out, as again, anything that would interest me.
  22. Dog (alarm) Shotgun (legal - wife) Crossbow Sword, Machete & lots of blades
  23. Solo single tourist would have no problem. @ 5:00 of vid I quite enjoyed my 'single' time there, and I didn't like the places or go to the ones in the vid that catered to tourist / expats. The night markets near the trains station and some of the Thai venues, make it one of the best food towns for the smaller large metros. Take it over the other top 5 large metros. You got Krung Thep area, then the larger 5 or 6 metros, and Udon, one of, if not the best of the lot. Far better IMHO than CM, Korat, Khon Kaen, Ubon. Haven't made it Hat Yai yet. I hate these place (in vid) but seems to be what people want ????
  24. Hotel / GH owners aren't that stupid to follow the govt BS. They'll do what they want, like they always have. TBH .. I'm hoping there is a mandatory new 'farang tax' added to accommodations. Something they can't avoid not charging for, and with big letter 'FOREIGNER SURCHARGE / FEE / TAX' ... ???? Unfortunately, don't see that happening.
