  1. I stay away from anything new and modern. That's a great way to avoid chinese tourists and tourists in general. They don't like the old places for some reason, even the well maintained ones.
  2. I'm at a boutique hotel now. Cleaning as often as needed and electric is included. The only drawback is there is no kitchen in the room or laundry. I have 24/7 access to the hotel kitchen though. Also, the staff is gone at night and there's nobody around 🤣 except a few other guests I almost never see. I think this place simply ran out of customers and turned into an airbnb room rental place. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  3. That's always in the back of my mind. All those short amateur clips online could be from cams. On the other hand, I don't care much at my age. I don't think I would be very popular.
  4. I don't usually negotiate, but prefer to just get a cheaper place that fits my budget. I never really know if I'm going to like a long term rental either. There is the visit during a regular lease signing but it's usually rushed anyway and I barely have time to inspect each little thing when viewing with an agent or owner. The usual stipulation being it gets fixed after you move in. Your right though, if I did find something egregious during a regular viewing I could back out without paying first.
  5. I started living in Airbb's by the month instead of renting. Is anyone else doing that here? Any problems or suggestions you have with this lifestyle? One obvious drawback is moving all the time, but it felt like I was moving around anyway in Asia on a long term lease. Another issue is feeling like it's not your home, but I felt that way when I was renting here long term 🤣. One big benefit is there are no deposits to worry about and the monthly price is about the same, maybe slightly more.
  6. Why did you get the long term Cambodian visa now rather then just waiting until you moved? Do you feel like they may change the Cambodian visa requirements in the future?
  7. You're projecting your own complexes onto other people. The reality is you have no idea what they are assuming unless you ask them. They could be thinking the exact opposite and there are many other scenario's. For example, they could feel sorry for you that you can't communicate, they could be happy because they don't want to talk or explain things, they could just accept it, or they could even like it, etc. The list goes on. I suggest you ask the people involved in that kind of interaction next time to see what they are thinking. Instead of assuming you know straight away and going off in a huff. Is that what you typically do? The answers you get may surprise you and not be what you were assuming at all. If you don't speak their language then use body language and facial expressions the best you can. Let me know if you find any entitlement that the person agrees they are doing. If you still see "stuff" underneath in the behavior of others no matter what feedback you are given you need to consider therapy. That's what psychoanalysis does is it help you release these "phantoms" that are causing you to react negatively to others. When you clear this stuff up it feels like other people have changed around you for some reason, are happier and Ok, etc, but it's really your perception of them that has changed.
  8. They never tell you what exactly they are doing and if you do ask it's something vague like consulting or marketing. A young-ish fellow hunched over their laptop at a high end cafe acting like they uber successful. It always seems to be a millenial.
  9. That's not a requirement and most locals don't care if you speak their language (unless they need to sell something). It has nothing to do with superiority. It seems you have developed a complex of sorts. Look at why you think people care so much about what you do or why you need to please other people.
  10. That's a common rebuttal but you are playing word games. I doubt he cares what others do. He meant he wants to be around others who speak english like other expats. It does not seem like he is interested in Thai people or getting them to speak english.
  11. Or they find Thai people annoying.
  12. I was in an upscale chocolate/sundae place one day in Bangkok and a large group started slowly filtering in. Apparently, it was an expat meetup that day. As I watched the group it felt kind of weird though and not natural. Like people did not know what to say really. One guy came in and announced "I'm an expat!" and left after about 5 minutes of small talk 🤣. I thought of joining in but it felt weird to me so I never did. I don't like large groups like that just meeting for the first time. Feels to contrived and also makes me nervous because it feels like I'm expected to play a role or say the right things. Like someone mentioned above, I think you need an activity in common to focus on like biking, exercise or whatever to make it easier. So my answer to the Op is do what you enjoy doing and talk to other people you meet doing those things. If everything you enjoy is solo, you may not want to meet people at all. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  13. It's owned by who is in possession, so it would be the banks. A receipt is irrelevant, they could never make one. So, if the cash is in the ATM tray it's on the banks premises and in the banks care and possession, especially if it had been counted by the ATM and was being processed. If it were just sitting on the ledge of the machine it's still the customers responsibility. The amount would need to be confirmed before they deposited the money, not after they handed the money over. Just like giving money to a grocery clerk or bank teller, you can't demand it back unless they agree to return it. Like at a casino where they count in front of you at the cashier. You can disagree with the count, but you can't demand the money back, it's in their possession. In this case it looks like the ATM agreed to not accept the money because the depositor did not confirm. However, no response is not a confirmation either way. The money was still the banks. The money should have been accepted, then the depositor would need to dispute later on if it was deemed incorrect.
  14. Op would attract attention from Thai's doing that so would not work out.
  15. You would really need to search for a deal like that in the USA these days. Probably more around $9-$10 not including the required tip per beer, usually $1 (they don't like change 🤣).
  16. Prices are about venue and location, not the beer which is the same anywhere. I pay more often, but I understand that I'm paying for the venue to be in a nice place with a marble table, fan, comfortable chair or be around people who are not losers. The Op is complaining about not being able to afford the venue and needs to be more selective in that regard.
  17. I'm not familiar with the deposit machines, but every ATM I use returns the card at the end of the transaction, not before.
  18. They have real Budweiser at the Big C with the import duty label attached. Never seen Coors here though. Nothing like having a real USA beer once in awhile. Brought back memories and improved my mood. It's the stuff I grew up on.
  19. Breakdown in society. People stop following rules and laws because they don't respect the leadership. Crime and unruly behavior increases. Losing and disbanding is different. People still respect a loss.
  20. I wonder what the cause of death was? Need an autopsy to be sure it wasn't suicide.
  21. Don't worry. He'll come back with a great retort, I'm sure.
  22. I was not talking about bars or hookers, but society in general. I am on my last turn at mid 50's. A lot of guys pass away in their 60's-70's.
