  1. Do you have internet banking? In this case you can top up 20 Baht per time.
  2. The balance will not really be confiscated. I had this problem once with a secondary Sim card. After expiry you have 6 weeks to top up. I missed that and went to AIS. The staff was very helpful and found out that my number was given to another customer 6 weeks after expiry date. I was given a new Sim card with new number ready topped up with my previous balance.
  3. I was in Pai and Mae Hong Son last month. Pai was packed with foreign backpackers and I personally cannot understand why it is such a magnet for travellers. There is not really anything to do or to see there except cafe and bar hopping and visiting cannabis shops. I had the impression that there were more foreigners than locals. I was however pleasantly surprised about Mae Hong Son. Weather was excellent and I really loved the view of the town from the temple viewpoint. You can walk to most places as the town is rather small. I met an American retiree there who told me that he would not like to be anywhere else. His wife was from Mae Hong Son. I think this family connection is a very important point. If your own family is from Isaan or somewhere else it will be difficult as Mae Hong Son is very remote. As you know Thais like to be near the extended family members. And if you are single you would be lonely there.
  4. No need to go there for that. Just take a flight from Don Mueang airport and look out of the window. Lot's of smoke and fires to see. You can however not see the rice put out to dry on the roads from your plane seat.
  5. It is a common sight when travelling in Isaan rural areas. For those here who are surprised I suggest to visit the real Thailand outside the tourist ghettos.
  6. That sounds like a sales advertisement of a hospital. Just to add that for the first 2 weeks or so you will definitely feel that you have been treated . During the first days you will have to wear a catheter which is inconvenient and sometimes painful with every move. Expect pain and a lot of blood during the first 2 weeks or so.
  7. Saw Palmetto is good and can help to bring some relief in light cases. In case urine flow is obstructed a lot because of prostate hypertrophy it is a different story. I have used it before and finally had a Rezum surgery in Bangkok. I am glad that I did it, problem is solved since 1 year. I am still using Saw Palmetto in combination of other herbs just for strengthening of prostate function.
  8. In my opinion the large cups you are referring to just contain more water, not really more coffee grinds. The standard Americano coffee by definition always has 2 espressos filled up with water. If you fill in more water you can use a larger cup. I personally avoid Starbucks because of its watery and weak coffee for Americano.
  9. Loei is a lovely province with hills and mountains everywhere. There are 2 rivers, Loei river and Mekong river at the border to Laos. Lot's of view points and places to go to. And it is also great for motorbike riders either up into the mountains or along the Mekong. Also a great starting point to do tours to the North. Nature pure and friendly people. But it is very quiet, I love it that way.
  10. Have you been to Loei before? In this small town there is not really any western orientated restaurant scene. In fact it is difficult to find any menu in English language. Your choices there will be very limited. There is one single western style pub and restaurant called Saloon in the center of Loei town. The Saloon will have an anniversary and Christmas party on the 26th. Not sure if there are any large hotels offering a Christmas dinner. Smaller hotels do not even have any restaurant.
  11. I absolutely agree with that. I do this as well. Never had any problems with Lazada wallet.
  12. Here is a link to the stock weighting, 10 stocks are nearly 50% of the SET 100 SET100_MonthlyReport_20231130.pdf
  13. First of all the SET index in 1997 was at a level where it simply should not have been, there was a huge bubble at that time. As another poster has mentioned there was a property bubble, a lot of highflying stocks without real value went bankrupt and so simply do not exist anymore since that time. All SET indices are dominated by the same few huge corporations and do not really reflect the overall economy in my view.
  14. While the SET 50 has 50 underlying stocks the weightings are not representative for the economy overall. Energy stocks alone have a weighting of close to 30% of the index. Another 25% are banks and communication stocks. Another reason is that stock prices do not always reflect the economy overall, expecially foreigners have withdrawn lots of capital this year.
  15. Everyone has different interests. Nan is lovely and a favorite especially of most motorbike riders. I was there twice and plan to go again. But yes, in this case it is far away from your route and not recommended because of the distance.
  16. Your comments are ridiculous. All people investing their money with him are happy because he made them wealthy. And as others pointed out he gave most of his money to charity. You are only grumpy because you missed the chance to invest with Berkshire.
  17. I did exactly that during Covid time. In Bangkok (my residence) there was a queuing time of several month. A friend of mine went to Pattaya to extend his because of that reason. I did mine in a province in Isaan as I was on a trip there. A certificate of residence of Bangkok immigration was however required. The licence was issued without any problem with my Bangkok adress.
  18. Well, Arnold is not really a good example. He has used steroids all life long.
  19. It is cheap if compared to a coffee shop but it is very expensive compared to coffee beans.
  20. I previously had a Kindle of a european country. When I bought a book from the US Amazon site I could not get it for the US price. I had to pay around 50% more in this case. It was written that this was the country specific price for the country where the Kindle was registered.
  21. Temperature is much more stable and not fluctuating so much like a non-converter.
  22. The fact is that I save around 50% per months despite being more at home and using the aircons most time of the day. It is also a question of efficiency of inverters.
