  1. the debate continues ... this guy thinks it's incredibly hard to kill off the human species ... but AI will kill off everything we call society today.
  2. simple solution. install metal detectors at all family gatherings.
  3. his definition of boring includes bad weather and pollution.
  4. it's supposed to improve exponentially. it's still early stages. every 18 months, new versions will come out.
  5. elon musk has thought about this problem. "the harder challenge is how do people then have meaning?" the greater your profession is, the more it will hit you like a ton of bricks. if you're a doctor who spent 10 years in med school, i can see some of these people having nervous breakdowns if they get replaced by AI.
  6. ok thanks. i'll check out your thread and comment.
  7. right now, they're still fully programmed? but what about the robot that plays GO? it needs to makes decisions, guess future outcomes etc ... to beat the opponents i think ... not sure. it's above my pay grade.
  8. elon musk is working on humanoid robots. so maybe yes.
  9. you're overly pessimistic. lighten up.
  10. yah, agree with your last couple of posts. what i'm wondering is what will happen when these AIs get really powerful ... we will all start to realize that we're not that smart and not needed for anything productive. and then what? human beings may need to develop their empathy or sth ...
  11. sorry, it was a stupid joke on my part. it was meant to ridicule the claim that he remembers the faces. i'm not pro-alcohol. your point is absolutely valid.
  12. can pot smokers boast the same abilities? i doubt it.
  13. how did you get from 'my wife doesnt listen to me' to concluding that your child doesnt need you? if you leave, your child will have 2 problems - too much math homework and no father.
  14. great sci-fi music! they should show these videos in driving schools.
  15. it went down sth like this? a judo chop chop chop.
  16. sorry i don't mean to be an ahole. just throwing this out there. is it possible that you spend too much time at work? maybe take a sabbatical and spend more time bonding with the family, do things together instead of just buying things.
  17. let's say you have a self-driving car vs human driver. let's say a cat crosses the road. 99 times out of 100 the human driver will panic and swerve to avoid the cat. but you might get yourself killed. emotions come into play, panic, fear, humans are not that good at making split-second decisions. the self-driving car will be programmed and may only swerve if it's safe to swerve. it may have to decide to sacrifice the cat instead of the driver.
  18. women weren't even in the workforce once upon a time. and even now, maybe men spend longer hours at work. aren't there more women than men in most universities these days? never underestimate women.
  19. some people, if they get wind that you called the cops on them, they may decide to beat the crap out of you.
  20. It's debatable whether most human beings are able to "adapt to new situations" or to "handle abstract concepts" to any degree. what abstract concepts have you grappled with lately? maybe it's a latent capability which few people exercise. if you think about what most of us do on a daily basis, they can all be programmed into a machine. maybe the main thing that separates us from machines is emotions. but that pertains more to how we handle interpersonal relationships. the rest is programmable. so do you want an unpredictable emotional bargirl or a pre-programmed sex doll? at some point people will get bored of their predictable sex dolls and they may start to program some unpredictable bitchiness into them ... a sex doll who talks back at you.
  21. good point. if the internet goes down, might be a meteor and we might be doomed.
  22. how did you learn to tie your shoes? someone taught you. data in, data out. it's a form of intelligence. if a computer can do sth, then it has some form of intelligence. a calculator has some intelligence, even though it was programmed. but the prediction is that machines will begin to teach themselves at some point ... ie self-learning ... then it gets more interesting if that ever happens.
  23. its the case all over the world. its not just about airhead vs high IQ. it's about depth of soul (for lack of any better term), something intangible you can't quite grasp or explain. some girls have something intangible that makes them much more interesting to be around long-term, even if they can't discuss certain topics ...
  24. yes, you are right. so my comment should be ignored. this situation can get much worse.
  25. Realistically a lot of folks around the world rely on Uber Eats nowadays. If you have a maid that cleans once a week, how many people actually clean their homes every day? Just suggesting some of these issues may not be the end of the world.
