  1. Leads to a Thai compensation deal.. Without police getting commissions from both sides.
  2. If not done too late... There is a proportionality between the pain experienced before the operation and the difficulty of the procedure, in some cases (about one in twenty) they have to convert keyhole into open surgery. This may raise another issue with insurances, some (especially self insurers ) may refuse to cover elective surgery. Mine was borderline elective, but I got approval without hesitation.
  3. Yeah.. But same level of skill, remember they were supposed to be on a honeymoon, and the first thing the police found out was that they didn't have sex.
  4. Bumrungrad. But someone said he got it done, a few years ago, for a tenth of that price in a government hospital. Bear in mind that now they have, very officially, introduced multi-tier pricing based on the colour of your skin. So 270k for a procedure that doesn't require any particular recovery. Was fully mobile, without pain, after an hour. Back home they do it as outpatient, I stayed one night.
  5. I can see why this could happen. For instance, I got my Gallbladder taken out last week, there were a few largish stones and the pathology revealed chronic inflammation. I am pretty sure that any recent (less than 2-3 years ) cover would have refused to pay the 270k bill on the ground it was for a preexisting condition. IMHO one should get into private cover in one's early forties, and keep it, to avoid such situations.
  6. Thailand's oxymoronic system in a nutshell.
  7. Hence first post, to answer OP's assertion that their were ALL rubbish.
  8. Where did I write that I was from the US?
  9. No worries mate we'll let you pay for your 6 weeks in ICU after your stoke on the treadmill.
  10. My estimate was probably low, because Doctors, Dentists, Ophthalmologists, glasses, etc for two adults and two kids amounted probably to more than that.
  11. Which part of "even if there is none" didn't you understand?
  12. 33 years of family coverage, with OPD.
  13. Well maybe, but I got my pension for valued "clean thinking" anyway.
  14. Dunno, But UNJSPF is one of the reasons I did the second half of my career with the UN. Cost me 7.9% of my pensionable income, while the employer paid 15.8. Simple and gave me an "LTR qualifying" pension after 23 years of service. So I am not rich and not obsessed by money, I let other people doing the dirty thinking for me.
  15. After over 300 claims I am still waiting to get denied.. Where did you get this utter nonsense from?
  16. So what makes you a German tax resident? And then I don't get it, you couldn't put money into a retirement fund now to draw a pension in a few months. And if you could do so, you could probably qualify as a wealthy global citizen, as you said. Your weakness might be that you may be to attached to your money. AFAIC, I have had an "LTR qualifying" pension without withholding tax for years. So it was a no brainer.
  17. Not a "woman" for effing god's sake.
  18. They look too young to be those lost during the Rainbow Warrior operation in the early eighties.
  19. None of the above, but a combination plus a few a other things.
  20. Or have 8000 USD being paid every month by one pension fund into one bank account. It works, I did it.
  21. So if I follow your brilliant course of thought, UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, aren't democracies either.
  22. Absolutely nothing, the umpteen constitutions were just Kaizen.
  23. Ok, lets ban alcohol, Muay Thai and jealousy.
  24. a) US$ 80000 min are supposed to an overseas pension. I know because this is how I got my LTR. b) Elite Visa holders won't be taxed on their overseas pension, but they will be taxed if they remit these funds to Thailand, they may deduct taxes paid overseas on that income. And this will all depend on the wording an interpretation of their relevant DTAs. A lot of homework in any case. c) There is no rule nor decree exempting Elite visa holders.
