What the OP says is typical. But considering all the foolish tourists who leave say 100 THB tips say to the taxi or for even getting served at a shop, mostly tourists, no wonder it turns local staff into a bunch of spoilt employées, with a sense of entitlement on dealing with foreigners. Sure 100 THB is nothing back home, but here leaving irresponsable amounts in tips just to feel good or look good, creates an unbalance in society and does not help anybody. Of course the 10% tip rule can or can not be applied in a restaurant but that is left to the discrection of the customer and only if the service is worth the trip. But now in places like Hua Hin even in a pharmacy one see's a big box written "Tips"....it is quite obvious that many are just taking foreigners for a bunch of suckers....

Won't stay clean for long, now that western media has spread the news all over...But only 3 out of the hundreds of beaches in Thailand clearly states that if you are a beach lover, far better off in south of France or Italy and of course Mallorca, Ibiza, Tenerife etc...Never understood people comming to Thailand for the beaches. Come for the girls, food, what ever ok but the beaches ?

When will foreigners understand ? No marriage. No buy house with Thai lady for god's sake and least of all think of the poor kid, no kid. Who stupid can foreigners get really ? Of course there are plently of great outcomes in these unions but far to many cases of such legal engagements with thai-westerners, rarely end up well. Wake up guys. Have your fun and play around but that's it. Forget those Walt Disney fairy tales you saw as a kid. Reality is ruthless and harsh all over the world and no exception in Thailand. Play, enjoy, have fun, stay healthy,...but no sign any paper together.

When will an intelligent bureaucrat come up with banning and removing all these absurd requirements that harass the quality retirees in Thailand ? Other Asian countries are far less a hassle and more respectful towards the elderly foreigners who do bring in a bit of money here.

I also wonder if those comming over to Thailand under a ltr-wealthy pensionner , could suddenly get a tax claim to pay in Thailand even if they do not live in Thailand more then the critical 180 days ?

After all the hassle and red tape asking for extra documents, let's assume one gets the LTR P visa retiree. But despite the 10 yr LTR stamp given on passport, it seems that the length of stay is to the discretion of the immigration boy on arrival who is free to put what he feels is an acceptable period of stay per trip. Read of reports in AN from LTR visa holders being asked to produce this or that document on arrival at the airport and given duration of stay only during the validity say of the health insurance produced. (that is for those who did have it). What if one only wants to say say 4 to 5 months per yer and already has a return ticket date reserved, Obviously more cost as one will have to keep the ticket open to change dates if on arrival the immigration fellow makes a fuss and puts some absurd period of stay stamp. At the end of the day it's not worth the hassle for the winter birds as one remains at the mercy of the immigration staff on arrival at BKK airport. Not to mention that the process to get the visa is a long journey of hassles, extra documentation, fuss made on details...totally absurd as most of the candidates for retirement own property and do bring in money and spend in Thailand. Better of to spend elsewhere. For the winter birds, far better to either go elsewhere in Asia or to choose another type of visa. LTR makes one feel that one may be above the hassle, but ultimately it's just a huge amount they take and not worth it.

The point is of course how the new tax rule will affect most of the foreigners. But the main point of consideration is that wheather one is concerned or not, one may have to deal with the bureaucracy any how to file some absurd new document, wheather one is taxed or not That's where the problem could arise as we all see how depending on the clerk who gets the file, he or she can freely say that this or this document is "no good" not valid etc. When one sees the absurdity with immigration or other agencies who invent their rules daily, or often just cannot understand the documents submitted, the worst can be unfortunately expected. Just see how absurdly they handle the LTR visa for exemple as often they ask for extra documents because they just cannot understand the documents submitted despite all the translations etc in english that they ask. Unless of course extra documents are just asked to make a fuss and create trouble for those awful farangs who are full of money that does create envy and jealousy with the clerks behind their counters or desks. As mentioned, if you can, sell out and leave to another Asian country. No point once retired to be harassed as such by the bureaucracy or immigration in Thailand. Sad as it is a lovely country with some lovely people all over. Times change so leave.

And is it also in the top 10 of countries where sex workers have deadly STD disease or virus like aids or syphillis ? On the first stages of such STD usually it does not show on the patient so better think twice before rushing into any seedy back street "entertainement parlour".

Think that it is really time to leave Thailand as they are going to far in harassing foreigners with money that to. They prefer the broke quality Russians ? fine. Why should we continue to be harassed as such here ?

When you see how the Thai bureaucracy makes a fuss and asks for new documents on each LTR visa submission, it is definately not worth it. The agencies handling the LTR seem unaware that most countries in Europe for instance have compulsory health insurance that covers in the country of residence and abroad. Most health insurance companies in Europe do not mention any specific amount of coverage as the amount any case in Thailand costs less than in Europe. US or UK citizens are not always covered by their laws on health, but the western Europeans all are. Why continue to waste time in Thailand ? Better of buying and spending money elsewhere in Asia where the agencies and bureaucracy do not harass so much the quality retirees from Europe. No wonder the Thai economy is falling and wil continue to fall with such absurd govt agencies harassing europeans by making a fuss on each document submitted for the LTR. Sell your property and move if you can.

Sure it's Thailand that is polluting the world with global climate change and of course the US, UK and Europe have totally all gone green and no fossil fuels anymore ? --yeah sure...go on.

Lot of noise was made for the LTR visa and long term stay granted to the categories of qualified of individuals. Besides the usual bureaucratic demands from different govt agencies, one of the LTR requests that can suddenly emerge from nowhere on a "case-to-case basis" is to provide a full year of bank statements translated if not in english. Rather an absurd and useless harassment in the LTR visa handling process. Why ? Because when such documents are not in english language, they ask for a full translation of the whole set of annual bank statements. This penalises all the qualified people from Europe with this harassment. A bank statement and mainly the numbers are universal language and any english speaking person can read the numbers should they be in german, danish or italian.... Translation also has a hefty price that thai translators that love to overcharge in Europe. The cost just to translate such a load of bank documents, makes it no point to go for the LTR visa in Thailand. Such requirements are absurd and discriminatory towards western european nations. Why can the agencies not be satisfied plainly with the translated tax returns that are official documents ? No wonder so many qualified retirees from Europe will chose to spend and buy property elsewhere then in Thailand with such absurd LTR requirements. The red tape is just not acceptable anymore considering how simple the whole process is in other Asian Nations or in the Indian Subcontinent. The LTR visa is definately is not worth the game.

The UN should rather go and preach in the US or UK with all their offshore oil rigs polluting the seas and mind their own business. Asia is just doing fine and does not need neither the UN or any other american run organisation.

What about the europeans ? Most western european countries all have compulsory health insurance by law covering also abroad for all their citizens. Their retirees have good pensions and spending power also and most own homes in Thailand. Why do they not get at least 6 months visa free stay ? Totally absurd immigration bureaucracy in Thailand that is loosing good money for the country and giving visa free stay to the wrong people.

I spray dog repellant all over my home area. Available in most Home Pro. Very efficient. Costly but efficient. But definately would try one ultrasonic repellant but can it not also excite the dog and make it more fierce perhaps ?

What about the Piaggio Mp3 scooters with 3 wheels ? Far safer in the ruthless Thai roads. Pity the Piaggio network with reliable maintenance service is poor in many smaller but popular towns.
