  1. Same for me, will leave with the exception that will spend the less then 180 days, in Vietnam and Malaysia instead during winter.
  2. I really would never want to check the cholesterol level of our friend Bob. Hey Man, don't you want to carry on truckin' as long as you can in life ?
  3. Ok we get it. Not all bar girls, part-time hookers or freelance prostitutes are bad..not all...and the other way, not all decent appearing bank executives are the crème-de-la crème. Fine. Roger that But how can you be sure you hit on the right one, considering that the falang is always openly or secretly considered mainly as the the golden goose, not matter how much the newly met lady may try to convice that she is not with you for your ca$h,. despite the 20 year age difference ?!! .-) Many women in Thailand or Japan are masters in the art to lure in the guilable and once the papers signed, the nightmare can start So what to do ? Simple. Like anything else, don't buy, rent !! And if possible, start to look around in other Asian countries that are culurally more respectful towards foreigners, compared to what Thailand has become.
  4. well you are infact chracterizing a situation in your description of your local 7-11, by considering it to represent the entire dynamics of the topic involved.
  5. Not surprising with all those bodybuilt tatooed westerners that come to Thailand and mingle with the ladyboys.
  6. Same with currency fair. Takes ages to be credited on the Thai Bank account.
  7. In many villa developpments, the bills are paied to the management and not to the government. The owner has to pay the management for the electricity and water that often leads to arguments as it is paid at a higher rate then the usual government rate. The practice is very much all over Hua Hin Hin Lek Fai in many well known pool villa developpments. Many foreigners just don't care and foolishly pay up.
  8. because tourist and expat numbers are steadily dropping as foreigners do not want to come to Thailand any more with all the hassles.
  9. Usually these blokes try to find in Thailand, all the things they did not find or get back home. Some end up drunks and it is sad. Others even when in a couple, can tend to end up as mouthy braggers, boasting all over, just because they feel a bit wealthy due to the exchange rate difference. The perfect types to avoid IMHO.
  10. A golden rule in Thailand. Be wary and if possible, keep away from those falangs westerners posing as friendly chums and trying to engage conversations in public places. One can fall on some weirdo criminal fleeing from his home country or some junkie under some strong narcotic substance.
  11. Totally absurd as most of the people paying with phones who are experienced in Thailand, usually have the app and the camera scan already open and it takes few seconds to pay. In fact it's those with cash who fumble in the wallet for the 1 bhat coin that's missing to sum up, that delay or those with cards who forget their pin code or the card reader that does not work are the ones who make more delay. Just plain jealousy in seeing people looking good, happy and having money to pay via a phone. Many foreigners in Thailand need to remember that they are not in their homeland. They need to learn a fundamental aspect of Thai culture that is...patience. One is fed up of those rude foreigner couples at the supermarket cash queue, getting impatient and being rude with the people in front. No wonder some get punched on their noses 😂
  12. Chinese will only spend in venues owned by their own people who send back the money to the family in China through various underground methods of money laundering. That is a main chinese speciality.
  13. To continue in the OP's line of comment, there seems a dim future for retirement in Thailand due to all the hassles from immigration and the new tax laws.
  14. Thai economy is going to face a monumental hit on the face with all the retiree foreigners that will start to leave Thailand due to the forthcomming tax laws that will add up to all the immigration hassles.
  15. No foreigner "fits in". No matter what some arrogant westerners try to convince themselves. Only our money fits in and after payment, it's "bye". With that in mind and no further expectations or considerations, the sojourn in Thailand will go just fine. if not, one may be in for a vast array of inner frustrations.
  16. Deep fried fish ? Deep fried fries as to my knowledge, chips are not boiled !!!....not to mention that delicious white mayo sauce....the best diet to feed dangerous heart problems with age and enjoy Thailand only on a 30day visa waiver.
  17. The moral of this thread is ? ...when comming to Thailand, bring in cash only and if you have a bank account, close it. They really do not deserve to get our money considering the lack of respect shown to foreigners here.
  18. After reading all the comments, to make things simple, don't chose Thailand for your retirement unless you want to run back and fort between embassies, banks, translators, accountant offices, immigration for the last part of your life.
  19. How come the death toll of loner falang tourists is so high in Thailand ? In no other country do tourists pass away so fast. Very sad for the deceased and his family - RIP. P.S. It's up to the British Embassy to pay all expenses and then settle with the family back in UK. London sends billions of pounds worth money and arms to Ukraine so they can surely help their own when in trouble abroad.
  20. For the others, check out the screen shot some place on this thread that clearly mentions the annual requalification process by BOi and immigration and then get an idea for yourself. One can be rather skeptical with some "influencers" who are pushing and perhaps toting for their own interests,
  21. Actually it's you who is missing the fact that you need to do annual re-qualification with immigration who are free to challenge your qualification and ask or invent all sorts of new document to show. And no big deal with or without an LTR as most of the retirees with the real ca$h only come to Thailand for a few months. Check out for yourself the post titled LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency by CB and you will have explicit screen shots of the annual hassles.
  22. The very fact to respond "FYI they are not", is an implicit yes they are to the comment above on thinking one is superior.
  23. Problem if you buy a house then you are stuck.
  24. Why not ask a reputable pool firm to come over and check ?
  25. One may wonder, when will they abolish this absurd rule. Or at least when will their websites be a bit more respectful to those who bring in big money to Thailand ? The foreign embassies should do some proper lobbying with the authorities here.
