  1. Is Nong Hoi for motorbike plates as well as cars?
  2. I don't use it for sleep. I use it for pain relief topically. Better sleep is just a side benefit.
  3. My entire plate holder, with plate and tax stamp, has gone missing today. I assume I need to contact the police and the Land Transport office? Have you had any experience with this problem? What is the correct procedure, which police station would be best, and which LTO? Thanks
  4. With many drugs, less is more. If you take 4-5 Vallium it may make you MORE agitated and hypertense rather than putting you to sleep. For many people, 3-5 DROPS of CBD oil is an effective sleep aid, for others half a dropper full does it, and for others a full eye dropper dose. There is NO 'standard' dose. You have to discover your effective dosage by yourself over the course of a few nights. "Mellow Organic" company online sells a reliable product. It works well. I go to bed at 11:30 pm and sleep through until 6-7 am when my bladder wakes me up.
  5. With all due respect... the water in Thailand is too clean for Sabretts... They didn't earn the sobriquet 'Dirty Water Hotdogs' without it!
  6. The US Military Commissary in Bangkok carries (or carried) Hebrew National Hot dogs. If you are retired Military you can shop there. Hebrew National, Nathans, and Boar's Head all make a 100% beef frankfurter worthy of the name. To a real hot dog lover, no other brand is worthy of the name!
  7. Hmmm... so if reading the posts here makes one a submissive victim, and you read the posts here (despite having read the book,) doesn't that still leave you a helpless victim? Should you re-read the book and find out which chapter you missed?
  8. Does anyone else see the similarities between this 'don't be a victim' and the Assertiveness Training Classes that women were taking in the 70's? Those classes were very valuable for many women, and certainly needed for a societal change at the time, but the classes left out one very important factor... and that was 'when' to be assertive and when not to be! It's not necessary to fight every battle. If someone stops you on the street, we listen for a few seconds to be polite. That's all. It's not being a 'victim.' It's being a polite member of a community. There is no need to drown ourselves in such negativity by labeling ourselves as VICTIMS (in Capital letters!) The rest of the world is working very hard to avoid labels that trap people into a false sense of identity. Perhaps Kenny Rogers said it best; "You have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em." Choose your battles wisely.
  9. I've seen the bus around town several times now, but haven't seen more than 2-3 people on it at a time. They tried municipal bus service two previous times, and both failed. People don't want to spend more money while having to walk to a specific place to catch a bus that will make them walk again afterward to get where they want to go. A songtow (seelor?) will pick them up wherever they are standing, and deliver them right to their door, and do so for less money. A smaller 12-seat bus would be more cost-effective, be able to negotiate smaller streets, and perhaps have a chance. These big buses were tried before and didn't work. I really don't know why they are simply repeating their past mistakes. The concept is great. The fault is in the implementation.
  10. Trust. Some marry with it, some will never have it, and wonder how others can be so comfortable.
  11. It is rather pointless to try to tell someone else how much THEY will need to live, based on our own lifestyles. We don't see things as they are. We see them as we are. Do you pound away a a few bottles at lunch, a 6-pack at dinner, hit the hard stuff at night, and buy the dollies lady-drinks? Do you always eat at La Crystal or at the Shangrila Sunday buffet? Require a condo that was built in the last 2 years? Complete with the gym. sauna, pool, and restaurants? Then you're going to need a hell of a lot more money than many of us.
  12. I'll use my horn if the situation warrants it. The odds of getting shot for it are pretty low. Perhaps if more people used their horns there might be fewer road accidents.
  13. Before I got married, I always found plenty of women in supermarkets. Based on what they had in their baskets, one can tell if they were buying for one or a family. And sooo many of them want to come to the aid of a poor helpless male who has absolutely no idea how to tell if this melon is ripe or how to cook a chicken!
  14. Just plan to go earlier than normal, and you'll have no trouble. No one is throwing water at 9 AM.
  15. Mods, please close this thread. I have found the information I was looking for.
  16. The biggest problem is that many of the bus companies' sites are out of date. Some now have completely different buses and timetables. Often, the photos ON the site are not from either Thailand or the company! (Case in point, the photo of the 'pod seat' at the start of the Sombat page. They do NOT have that bus! I found it best to call each one and ask for what I was looking for. And even then, I received some incorrect information FROM one of the companies! However, here is a YouTube video of the 20-seat Sombat bus. One seat on each side. This bus, however, is NOT listed in Sombat's schedule on their site. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8I5TQlItbU
  17. Sombat Tours offers VIP 20-seat busses, with a single seat on each side of the aisle.
  18. Mods, please close this thread. I've been able to find just what I needed. Thanks.
  19. Thanks for that. I'm looking for the company that runs the buses in the first photo; one seat on each side of the bus, which this company doesn't have.
  20. Thanks for the suggestion. This site seems to only show one bus company though. I'm looking for a more VIP-style bus, single seat on each side of the bus.
  21. I have some large, fragile equipment I need to take down to Bangkok and don't want to trust airline baggage handlers or TSA agents with it, so I plan to go down by bus or train. I've done both many times in the past, and enjoy the ride. But I haven't done this since the Pandemic and wonder if there have been some advances made. I know there is a newer, more modern night train available (I didn't mind the old ones,) but I'm thinking about some kind of VIP overnight bus. Do you have any experience with these VIP buses, enough to know which to take and which to avoid? My onw search shows there 'were' quite a few different companies available in the past. Thanks.
  22. The round bottom of the wok will not give much contact with the induction surface, regardless of the frame holding it steady, and so heating will not be efficient. I use a wok as my primary cooking pot, and do so on an induction hob... but... I use a flat-bottom Stainless steel (with an iron plate bottom) wok now. Bought it at Index on the Superhighway. It's not nearly as efficient as a carbon steel wok on a roaring gas fire, but it gets the job done once you get used to its eccentricities. I cook more Chinese dishes than Thai, and use this wok at least 3-4 times a week.
  23. ... and THAT is the name of the tune. It's no problem for us. Just another situation with which to deal.
  24. There are several categories for following the Keto lifestyle, and each has its own characteristics. Pure Keto - Very, very strict. Absolutely zero sugar, zero processed foods, only free-range eggs and meat. Fresh vegetables. Very careful attention to 'personal macros,' and record-keeping of protein, fats, and carbs. Probably the fastest way today to lose weight but I couldn't do it! Lazy Keto - just like Pure, very dietarily strict but without the record-keeping so not as exact. Dirty Keto - Not at all pure. Eating most everything, but avoiding most starches and large sugars, with attention to personal macros only to remain in Ketosis. Dirty Lazy Keto - I think you get it. So long as the body is in Ketosis, these all work. With a side benefit that you never feel hungry, and never feel full or bloated after a meal! Listening to many dieters (I mod a Keto group) their number one reason for not continuing with their previous programs was that it was too strict. Too restrictive. Too boring. For me, Pure Keto is like that. I tried it. I wasn't comfortable with it. So I evolved eventually into Lazy Dirty Keto, which HAS worked for me for the past 5 years.
  25. How do you suppose it affects those who do NOT consider the move to be a mistake? Judging by the large number of expats who don't feel the need to leave, there seem to be quite a few who don't think living in Chiang Mai is a mistake. In the past 23+ years here in Chiang Mai, we have never felt the need to leave. Your mileage may vary. And yes, complaining two or three times seems to be sufficient to illuminate those who need to complain every day, and stop some of the bitching by people who are upset that we are not upset about the AQ... But only some. I guess misery loves company.
