  1. I read his explanation. Almost as obscure as the cartoon. I think that was the point. It was a kind of "one hand clapping"
  2. I believe those are called D-traps in the states. They are not legal there either. I have one under my bath room sink. They work well, just remember to clean them from time to time.
  3. IF the mother will marry you and let you live in her house. The marriage visa is the way to go. I live rural and have an income of 40,000/month and rarely spend that much even paying for one of my wife's sister twin daughters though the university. But if you are going to live in a city and pay rent, that would be very tough.
  4. So few in this modern world even know there is a night sky to protect. When not looking at their screens, they look up to see a street light.
  5. "The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax— Of cabbages—and kings— And why the sea is boiling hot— And whether pigs have wings."
  6. Only if it has moving mouth parts.
  7. Yes to stay young, Keep dancing
  8. There are subdivisions here in Thailand where a farang can buy the house with a long term renewable lease. Kind of like buying a condo, you don't own the land that it is on.
  9. I don't think there is a law about driving or riding a bike without footwear, but I believe it is unlawful to drive a car or ride a MB without a shirt. A few years back I saw a Thai on a MB wearing a pot on his head. Made me wonder what the definition of "helmet" was in Thailand.
  10. I think he meant back in the kitchen. They add sugar to offset the salty fish sauce
  11. The motor bike did its part. Unless they are at the mall, they do not do much walking anymore.
  12. I liked the part where he gets in a huff about farangs getting into a huff because he ignores them. I'm sure they didn't know how lucky they were.
  13. The one I am talking about is also over 80. I am mid 70's and have been spending half my time in Thailand and the US. This is planned to be my last year to return to the US. Not a easy decision. I'm on fixed income. The cost to live in the US is really high. Just looking at menu prices from 3 years ago, now twice as high. Food from the market at least 50% higher.
  14. Soon to hate the cold and damp? I know a guy from the UK that has told me a number of times he isn't coming back. So far he always has. Now he says he won't be going back to the UK. Time will tell.
  15. The article states at the end that the tenants came back and got their belongings, so the picture may have been taken before they removed all the stuff.
  16. Since there seems to be different experiences. I will add another. This also from US banks to Thailand, but Lycamobile https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycamobile sells in many countries. I have a monthly plan, roaming included. I just have to turn on my phones roaming. When in Thailand, I put the sim in an old phone. It then connects to AIS 3G roaming, all incoming call for my US number from the US ring and I receive SMS free. They charge $.40 a minute for roaming on both carrier and wifi calls (same as I have seen on other carriers) but I answered one short call and never saw an extra charge. I have used them for more than 10 years, great service, the worst customer service, website.
  17. A bit silly if you ask me. Her carrying the rose in the open should have been enough to show she didn't believe the a single cut rose would be illegal. A slap on the hand and taking the rose away would have been the right thing to do. And I thought US customs were bad. They took a packet of chicken ramen from me because it contained dried chicken. It was a brand sold in the US.
  18. Un able to post link
  19. Yes, put a no tipping sign outside, raise the price of the food and pay the staff more. Anyway, the way I heard it is that Thais will usually leave the coins and those that want every baht are considered "sticky s**ts". I usually leave something. I don't think it is good to over tip as it may look a bit condescending. My father who was in the Navy back in the 50's told me they were instructed to never let the Japanese see how much money you had in your wallet when buying something as they saw as an insult.
  20. That is part of the problem. The drink glass and a cigarette. Both are props. It is easy to sit with a beer in front of you for hours. Something to do with your hands. Its hard to sit and drink almost anything else for that long. Without the prop, you become uncomfortable.
  21. Them bones, them bones, them dry bones.
  22. I love the "why can't we get along" unless your an old guy with a young woman.
  23. My motor head days were over 1/2 a century ago. But about a year or so ago I saw a Thai pull into a station in a 1968 chevy impala running a 3/4 cam. I don't think I had heard one of those in just about as long.
  24. I learn to drive in a 47 dodge pickup and my step fathers 46? Ford flat head woody. My grandparents gave me their 49 Plymouth. First car I bought 53 Studebaker coup, followed by 57 Studebaker Silver Hawk. My first mc (really it was my younger brother's) was a 53 Harley with ape hangers (the smallest engine they made at the time, I don't remember). That got me into my 20's and ended my motor head days. Became a hippy and bought a VW bus that I painted.
