I also dislike people not paying their hospital bills but I don't think it happens very much as in my experience people using them have to pay up front. I know one who broke a leg and had to put 150,000 baht up before they would touch him.

I am "trying to say" that possibly the reason for your easy entry was because you were on Emirates. I have read that Emirates are dropping the complementary insurance as from next month.

Possibly that was before the Thailand pass brought new regulations into play. Were you on Emirates.?

Likewise there is no permanence on a work permit.

I am told that it is necessary for the new pass. I am told by a mate who has just renewed his extension and is/was planning a trip home that coming back with 9 months of his extension left would cost 9 x 3,000 per month insurance.

Thanks to all, my enquiry was for a friend who is going to the UK for a week and who will have 9 months left on his retirement extension when he returns. The insurance for those 9 months seems very heavy but compared to the inconvenience of starting again might be worth it.

Same here TW, I remember being told that after a few years your reasons for staying here are totally different from the reasons for coming here in the first place. True in my case. Although things did wind down slowly. But I do not know of anywhere that would suit me better than Thailand. I do keep an eye and an ear open for an alternative in the event of it going tyts up here and someone on this thread mentioned Northern Cyprus which could bear looking into.

Gits charged me 150 baht for a beer earlier this year.

About 20 years ago I was at a function in Pattaya and one of those present was the editor of a local publication.
