For those of us on a frozen UK State pension, it impacts our spending locally. I have had to tighten my belt significantly: clothes; car; restaurant meals; trips to Bangkok; gin/tonics. Thus the locals too suffer from the decreased ex-pat spending. I believe the baht is kept artificially high by those who dare n't put baht into their local bank accounts, but export it ready for a one-way ticket to Dubai.

It's certainly cheaper for everything. The people are where Thais were 25 years ago: happy to see you; genuine smiles; eager to please.

Now there's a surprise.

It takes approximately 45 minutes to drive 5 kms from Suk to 2nd Road. Mostly because the lights at 3rd Road are hopelessly out of synch with the volume of traffic entering Pattaya with those crossing it. By the end of this ordeal I am ready to fight anybody. A cop to deter those blocking traffic would be handy.

I dislike dogs intently after one disfigured my young brother 76 years ago when UK was where Thailand is now on dog control. I condone killing them humanely by authorities. It baffles me that Thais wander the world wearing masks in the name of hygiene whilst allowing dogs to defecate/urinate anywhere. Add in noise pollution, rabies, attacks on children/passers-by and road accidents and it's clear the law should be upheld. Like the law on helmet wearing it is rarely enforced, resulting in daily deaths. Thailand will continue to be regarded as a 3rd World country till it gets a police force.
