Why do people do border runs by land?
ukrules replied to TheLaughingMan's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That's not the reason, many people have been doing this for the last 20 years and that's just what I remember. Going back that far there was no such nonsense of 2 overland entries a year and being randomly denied entry. Also you could simply overstay and just pay the fine back then yet people still wanted to 'keep legal'. I suspect it's simply down to the cost, they want to spend less. -

Elderly Swedish man attempts to smuggle 3kg of heroin into Thailand
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in World News
Is this the usual route to smuggle Heroin into Thailand? I would thought it more likely to come straight into Thailand from that whole 'golden triangle' area / Myanmar. How and why was this guy there with this pakage? -
Mysterious death: Australian tourist found dead in police station cell

Oh, they're never going to allow anyone to watch the CCTV. -
I wonder how many days over the reporting date they were, no mention of that in the article. Back when they changed overstaying a visa from something that you were fined for and nothing more I also wondered if /when they would turn the 90 day reporting into a crime. So if they're going down this route why don't they fine the people who are actually responsible for doing the 90 day report - the home owner / landlord.

Mine went from about 10k to just over 11k Baht It's hot and I use a lot of AC, fully expected. I did replace a couple of AC units so they are more up to date and less inefficient - this shows right now as my bills are about the same as the last couple of years. Without buying those 2 AC units I suspect it would be a lot higher.

Wishful and magical thinking that the numbers would be so low. Nobody who gets what can be best described as 'a cold' will report it, only the more serious cases will be counted.

Yeah, it's the normal untracked stuff that can go missing. I once went about 2 years without receiving any mail even though I was signed up to various services which billed me monthly and definitely mailed out invoices / statements. I believe whoever was 'doing the deliveries' must have retired because it's service as normal now. Once something tracked did not get delivered and I went down there and told them I know it's in this building, then I said "go and get it' which was duly translated. They managed to find it pretty quickly at that point. Kept me waiting weeks before I bothered to go down there.

British man accused of setting fire to hotel in Chiang Mai

Thailand is on the list of 'Nine forbidden countries' for the Chinese. Google it - "china nine forbidden countries" - it's a rabbit hole. Certain news stories are now making a little more sense with hindsight - like that fake diplomat driving around in a police car. I wonder if he was somehow related to these illegal police stations in some way.

Interesting, very interesting. Apparently there's a list of 9 forbidden countries where the Chinese government has issued a notice back in 2021 and Thailand is on the list. Source for this and so much more : https://safeguarddefenders.com/en/blog/230000-policing-expands Where are all the Chinese tourists again? I have to wonder if these kidnappers are rogue Chinese police - they wouldn't be corrupt and working with a honeytrap would they? I'm so sure you will delete this post that I would bet money on it but that's illegal.....

Zero dollar tourism looms again as Chinese return to Thailand
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Are there really enough flight seats to 'welcome' 25 million visitors? I have to wonder about that, because it definitely doesn't add up which means there's a bit of a lie hidden in there somewhere, I'm just not entirely sure where it is - and I don't care that much to dig it up - but rest assured - it's there. -

Myanmar Man Found Dead, Likely Infected With New Omicron Strain
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why is this XBB 1.16 suspected? They have no idea what caused his death until they do an autopsy, locate the virus and then sequence its genome. If they think he died of this sub variant then that suggests it must be present in massive numbers for it to kill someone of his age as it would be a rare day when a 34 year old dies from this.- 33 replies

With proper authorisation (power of attorney) you would be surprised what someone else can do for you = anything and everything. -
You need a completely new system, everything has changed and got far better over the last decade. I suggest you just buy a new one and then copy over what data you want to keep.

Glad you got the rabies shots sorted as it can come back and surprise you many weeks or even months later. Out of interest - how did you find out that you're allergic to the vaccine derived from horses? Is this something you were already aware of from previous vaccines or did they do some kind of test before administering it? How would I know if I'm allergic to vaccines that are made this way?
