  1. Keep your US mobile phone active - I've been here since around 2006 on and off for the fist few years then full time since about 2009 I kept my UK cellphone active with a low level monthly subscription for one reason only - banking. Receiving SMS costs nothing - at least from the UK - not sure about the US. It pays to think ahead - just keep paying it and keep an address in the US for both the account and the Phone. Also don't forget the IRS - you still need to make filings - I know US citizens who don't file anything - they just leave and forget about it - and they know they're in for a world of pain one day when it catches up with them - and it will catch up eventually!
  2. I think you misunderstand the process that happens here. Only once you're already approved can you even pay the full fee for the TE / TP membership and then go on to book an appointment for visa insertion. So no approval = no payment and definitely no visa insertion appointment. We must surmise that this application has already been officially approved, paid for in full and now an insertion appointment was also made - then they changed their mind for some unknown reason. I guess this is far more serious that it first sounds if you're not familiar with the entire process.
  3. Wow, great work, who are this local organisation which took action resulting in the child being imprisoned?
  4. Is this a newly approved Elite visa for first time insertion in the passport or were you going to get the next 5 year sticker in a longer membership, like the 20 year plan?
  5. My Mrs who's Thai wanted to increase her daily limit at Kasikorn, they reviewed the request and said 'No'. End of story. I went down and pulled half a million Baht in cash out last week as I had something expensive to pay for. So riddle me this - forcing people to withdraw large amounts of cash in person is somehow supposed to reduce money laundering ? 😂🙄
  6. Also when you restart the computer make sure you click 'restart' because it's a little different to a shutdown then press the power button. It's kind of hidden but there are some 'fast boot' settings which can continue to keep drivers in memory - it's a form of hibernation. Long story short - just click restart - not shutdown to be sure as you never know what it's up to 'under the hood'
  7. This is a big part of the reason that we can't pay for things that cost a few hundred thousand Baht. Just this week I had to go down to the bank and withdraw multiple hundreds of thousands of Baht in cash to pay for someones hospital bill - in advance as it was a planned procedure by appointment. Good job it wasn't an emergency as they wanted 50% payment on admission and the remaining balance on discharge - both more than 100k in this case. Previously I could have used the app - not any more! Great work there Bank Of Thailand - perhaps limits to certain hospitals, etc should be exempted from these limits - people will die because of this.
  8. If by PP you mean Peoples Party or whatever they're calling themselves these days then the opposite is true. These people will raise VAT and the inevitable will happen - economic ruin.
  9. So long as they continue with the planned taxation changes I won't care one bit. However it was her government who proposed this new royal decree so it will be very telling if it's reversed The change I'm referring to here is this proposed Royal Decree which allows same year income to be remitted tax free in the year it's earned and the following year - that's a big one and it came from this cabinet which by all accounts I have heard are all no longer in office.
  10. Yes you can. In fact they will issue one for any amount, millions of Baht if needed.
  11. Oh and just make sure it really is being shipped directly from Amazon Export Sales - it's shown for every product or they will hammer you on the customs - Amazon really do act as your import agent in some way here compared to buying direct from some random company, either directly or through whatever representative they have setup : I use Amazon for lots of things all the time and always order from the US, make sure anything is dual voltage if ordering from the US.
  12. It's true, computer parts have just VAT - check this out, careful where you buy from though - I would only buy from Amazon Exports or you're on your own when it comes to import taxes... The import charges on the above item which is incredibly expensive are about 7%, perhaps with a small added charge - but not much. I've ordered various bits and pieces over the years. Not sure exactly what parts in a computer are covered and which are not Good luck finding an RTX 5090 though
  13. I heard this kind of thing for his entire first term. Then Biden came along - crickets.....
  14. You're missing the real story here. These exporters rent containers to send their goods. They are rented to many companies and move around the world constantly carrying all sorts of cargo, even if it's a freezer container - unplugged a month before it could have been carrying a leaky medical device. There's no way in this world that the shrimp itself was contaminated with radioactive material - it was something left over in the container from a previous voyage. The shrimp company will however almost certainly be left holding the bill for this.
  15. This 'new law' has been around for decades - since the 70s as far as I can tell.
  16. I wouldn't go more than about 10 to 15% That said - if there was a solid 30 year lease on all of the land in his name then a change of ownership would not matter. If however there was corruption involved in transferring the land then they could of course corruptly remove the lease - but that would require an extra level of deception. So are fake power of attorneys a big thing here in Thailand or did someone sign one - because you've got to be real careful what you sign and who you grant it to - it can grant full control of assets like land.
  17. Yeah all pro level store type photocopiers have scanner built into them - take the documents to the 'print shop' and tell them you want them scanning and emailing to you You will receive an email with the scanned images which you can then forward on to whoever needs them. I have an 'all in one printer' at home which prints, copies and scans - it's a cheaper version of the half a million and up Baht printer, copier and scanners they they have in these print shops. You might not realise this but in order to produce a high resolution photocopy when you put the document into the machine - it first scans it - then it prints it - and these newer fancy modern machines which have now been around for 20 years can save them to disk as well - as scanned images. It's totally normal and run of the mill since long ago.
  18. Interesting, since when have 'they' ever been interested in public opinion?
  19. It's not that big a deal as you can just copy/paste the link into a new tab/browser window - I've done it on a number of links posted since this policy was introduced. That said - links are quite normal on forums so it's a bit of an odd policy
  20. It's pathetic that they deliberately choose to block the largest companies in the world.
  21. What's very hot? I start drinking a coffee and it's hot and by the time I'm finished it can be 'almost cold'
  22. lol, there's zero chance this government will be in any position to do anything like this in the run up to 2027 In fact I will be very surprised if they manage to remain in control for a month or two.
  23. Nobody agreed to anything here.
  24. You know it's quite possible that the OP was planning on leaving the country in which case he would want full access to his funds - then maybe he gets a new visa next year or whenever. They can't just lock down your money - what if you moved to Thailand and then decided after a couple of months that it's not for you - and go to Vietnam - you're left with a bank account in Thailand with no address and no access to your money?
