  1. Well they might if they get scared enough, which could be when the dispossessed are wandering through the Capitol with a portable gibbet. IMO most of them might agree with Trump on the tariffs, but nothing works like fear to make politicians change tack. It's not like some of them have any staying power and will change policy at the drop of a hat if they think that blaming Trump will spare their proverbial necks. To be honest I think it's a lot of BS and screaming, and eventually it's all be like 2009 when we peasants got screwed on interest on savings, and the 1% cleaned up big time. The only thing I'm certain on is that it's not going to be party time again for the serfs in my life time. IMO this is just the start of the beginning. Hopefully I'm wrong on that, but time will tell. We are living in interesting times.
  2. Given the amount of personal debt that many people have acquired, they can't afford to believe that the party is over. IMO that's where the real pain is going to be- if they lose their jobs because of the decline in world trade, they are seriously up the brown coloured creek without a paddle. Given that my pension is paid to me out of current taxation, I'm also going to be up the brown creek in the same canoe if mass unemployment eventuates. Given China is our main export market, if they fall over, we are probably all going to be up the creek. So I'm just as much at risk as any American if it all goes horribly wrong.
  3. Do you seriously think those numbers on anyone's chart mean diddly squat any more? Short of Trump being removed from power and a traditional BS promoting POTUS installed it's full steam ahead, and where we end up nobody knows. Don't forget that Trump was elected to burn the old system down ( seems a lot of people didn't take him seriously- their mistake ). I'm somewhat bemused at how fast the old order is collapsing, but that's what happens when the system is built on greed. Seems to me there are only 2 ways ahead- either Trump is removed, the old order re installed to collapse later, or Trump destroys it and something new emerges to take it's place. OR, the entire "crisis" is just a load of cobblers and we'll be back to business as usual once the 1% get their greedy fingers well and truly into the pie.
  4. I've come to realise that everything ends sooner or later, and since Vietnam things only get worse. The 50s were the best years for western prosperity, but that's all gone. Now it seems that populist policies to buy votes has resulted in a facade that was covering up a catastrophe in the making- eg the US debt is unsustainable, and the whole rotten farce is going to be exposed. My generation had the best of it, but the party is over. It's been real, but it's going, going and soon to be gone. Perhaps the economists of the future will realise that a proper economy can't be built on BS
  5. If the world economy depends so entirely on the US, then something has gone very very wrong in the world order. Seems that all those economists don't actually know half as much as they claimed to know. IMO it's a rotten construct that was designed to enrich the 1%, and they will be poised to make even more money in the future as they buy up companies at firesale prices. If it's so fragile then it was going to fail sooner or later- it just happens to be now. Given I've always been screwed over by the economy and the grasping IRS, it's not going to be much different for me from normal. Might affect those foolish enough to get themselves into huge debts though.
  6. America doesn't put much store by democracy when it's other countries. How many dictators has the US supported in my lifetime- quite a lot. It's used quite a lot to support it's wars though, but only lip service, and that's only till they depart leaving the dead and destruction for someone else to clean up.
  7. Sounds like justice was served. One hopes the pickup driver is not charged.
  8. Sorry about that. I couldn't stop myself. I know I should have had a tantrum and proclaim the end of civilization instead. Excuse me while I sit on the naughty step for a few hours with an I hate Trump hat on
  9. My sense of humour is just fine. I just dislike people saying nonsense about Antarctica. It's my favourite place on the planet- amazing scenery and few people to stuff it up.
  10. You have no idea about penguins, do you? Good luck finding some penguin poop you could put on a driver's seat, unless you bring a jack hammer.
  11. Canada should import from Mexico then. Bunch of moaners in Canada.
  12. I saw that movie but the only part I remember was the drug scene to American Woman, and that vaguely.
  13. Apparently he was difficult to work with. Some good movies for sure.
  14. He was likely doing all sorts of things not life prolonging.
  15. Sometimes it was so interesting just watching what was going on that I missed out on a good one and went to bed alone. That was back before the gogo girls went freelancing after the bars closed. Back then no girl would freelance as if caught not getting a barfine would be sacked. Different times as after the bars closed Sukhumvit was deserted. The freelance scene and the pavement bars only came about after early closing started- that scumbag Purachai again- but he only succeeded in transferring the business from inside Nana to Sukhumvit Road.
  16. Phuket ( Patong I assume ) in 99 was well ruined. I was long gone to Phangan by then, but of course I had to bring my own from Pattaya or Bkk.
  17. That's entirely subjective. To me Hollywood Royale was the cheese. Two stages ( one of naked beauties the other for the shy ones ), porn on the screen, excellent shows, great music, and as interesting a crowd as one could wish for till well after dawn- but that was before the 98 crash and all the expats lost their jobs. It was a sad day when Purachai destroyed the scene. The H R has long gone, of course- nothing good lasts.
  18. It's you. I never had any of that sort of problem, but of course it's going to be more expensive than Nakon Nowhere. Up to you.
  19. Rubbish. If you want to stay in Pattaya you deserve to be bored. The best of Thailand is not found in any city, but your loss. You won't live any different in Oz, but it'll cost you more.
  20. Hendrix? Are you making a bad joke? There's about a zillion other bands better that that. Santana for a start. Ever hear of the Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchel, Judy Collins etc etc etc. Even Abba was more popular than Hendrix. I scorn your Hendrix.
  21. Sport? You mean those pansies that wear all the protective gear to play with a ball, or a hockey puck? Boring. That leaves baseball, which might be interesting if I thought grown men playing with a ball was worth my time to watch.
  22. BS, IMO. I don't have much if anything made in America. Japan makes tools as good as Snap on and the American electric tools, Japan and Sth Korea make all my electronics, my car was made in Japan. Any minor stuff will be made in China. I did use to fly on a Boeing 747, but that was many years ago. Now it's one of those Airbus planes. I don't even wear jeans. America has nothing to offer me- I don't even want to go there.
  23. The prosecution DOES have to consider if a jury would find the accused guilty. If in doubt, the case would likely be refused.
