Germany now confirms it WILL send 14 Leopard Tanks !

Are you a German taxpayer? If not, what right do you have to tell them what to do? Germany already spends a lot supplying war material to Ukraine. They have entirely legitimate concerns regarding escalation, as they will likely be among the first to receive a nuke if it comes to that. -
Millions forced to skip meals as UK cost of living crisis deepens
thaibeachlovers replied to Scott's topic in World News
For sure a lot of people in the UK ( and many other countries ) could do better if they skipped one meal a day. I only eat twice a day and it's still a battle to keep the blubber off.- 261 replies

Oh dear, try again. All those fresh water icebergs you are so worried about have been calving as long as the ice cap has been moving outwards into the ocean, which is as long as there has been an ice cap. It's not static, which is why you won't find Scott's death site any more- probably fell into the ocean long ago. Anyway, any fresh water added in the Antarctic will probably be balanced by evaporation in warmer climes. BTW an area the size of London is nothing in comparison to the amount of water in the planet's oceans.

I love stories like this. If it wasn't for things like this Thailand wouldn't be LOS, as it'd be like the <deleted><deleted> I want to leave to go back to LOS. -
No Islamic state should have interest as it's banned by the religion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riba Riba (Arabic: ربا ,الربا، الربٰوة ribā or al-ribā, IPA: [ˈrɪbæː]) is an Arabic word that can be roughly translated as "usury", or unjust, exploitative gains made in trade or business under Islamic law. Riba is mentioned and condemned in several different verses in the Qur'an (3:130, 4:161, 30:39 and perhaps most commonly in 2:275-2:280).[1] It is also mentioned in many hadith (reports describing the words, actions, or habits of the Islamic prophet Muhammad).

A favourite tv series of mine set in 1950s Yorkshire was like looking at post WW1, and talking about food, the evening meal in military camp I was stationed at in NZ had mutton, boiled potatoes and silverbeet every day ( We did have over 30 million sheep then, so the mutton was explainable, but not the silverbeet ). However, one delightful dessert was made entirely from sugar icing sandwiched between thin layers of pastry- yummy.

Alice Springs: Alcohol limited in Australian town due to violence

Alcohol really is a toxic drug. If it was only recently discovered it'd likely be banned, IMO. -

The longer I read this thread the more I'm convinced that some on it get their ideas of war from movies. War is always messy and rarely goes the way it is intended. A large part of winning is down to blind luck, rather than intent. I could use examples from previous wars but that would be off topic. -
Jacinda Ardern says she will resign as New Zealand prime minister

I'm so looking forward to November when we can dump this government. It's an election for National to lose, so I hope they don't become complacent and do something really stupid to lose it. -

Does NZ have ANY coal mining now? I think they closed the last mine and coal for Huntly has to be imported- another reason Adhern is unpopular. -

What on earth are you on about? Deforestation, what deforestation to make pasture? The deforestation took place long ago. Most farmland was probably created by early 1900s. Also a large area of the south island high country was removed from being grazed and allowed to revert to natural cover ages ago. BTW do you not understand that pasture captures carbon? -

You could kill every cow and sheep in NZ and globally it would probably make no difference to methane levels. The NZ tax is seen by everyone I know as virtue signalling, and of no practical significance globally. It because of this and things like 3 Waters that she became so unpopular. -

Yet you are saying "So basically farmers did not want to pay tax or clear up their act to stop polluting NZ's rivers or producing greenhouse gasses." without providing any facts to back up your IMO false claim . Do have any proof to back up your claim, or did you just dream it up? -
It will make no significant difference. Floating sea ice doesn't raise sea level much when it melts. Put an ice cube in a glass of water. When it melts, does the water level rise? The ice cap on the land would have to melt to change sea level. https://academic.oup.com/gji/article/170/1/145/2019346 If all the extant sea ice and floating shelf ice melted, the global sea level would rise about 4 cm.

I find it somewhat strange that it's thought a few tanks will make the difference. Thousands certainly would, but is the west going to send thousands? For those that don't actually know much about tanks other than in movies here is an informative web site https://kyivindependent.com/national/how-many-tanks-does-russia-really-have However, we can not expect Russia to run critically low on tanks anytime soon. Despite heavy losses, Russia still has enough machines to continue waging its war for years. and another ( I had to delete one sentence to keep the quote with 3 sentences ) https://www.csis.org/analysis/will-united-states-run-out-javelins-russia-runs-out-tanks The United States has supplied Ukraine with thousands of Javelins, the anti-tank missiles that have become the iconic weapon of the war, but the U.S. inventory is dwindling. The United States has probably given about one-third of its stock to Ukraine. ............................................ Production of new missiles is slow, and it will take years to replenish stocks. -
Treasury secretary warns US could default on its debt as soon as June

Alas, you are speaking in 10 year ago mode. MS and Amazon ( your heroes ) just sacked thousands, factories are going AI/ robotics, the future for anyone unqualified is bleak. Looks like the so called "living wage" will become the norm, and where is the money for that going to come from? IMO it will have to come from the top 10% as not many others will have much to tax.
