When my D-Max had an engine change as a result of a recall Isuzu gave me some paperwork in Japanese & Thai which I put away and forgot about. Copy of health insurance that covers COVID-19 related medical expenses, both inpatient and outpatient, no less than 100,000 USD for the whole period of your stay in Thailand.

There is no requirement for insurance for Thailand. Don't know about Malaysia although I see no mention of it being required on the IATA travel map.
