I would have to consider that to be a rather simplistic reply from someone who's usually quite articulate. There's a big difference between showing support for the Palestinian people in opposition to the lack of proportionality of the Israeli response, and showing direct support for Hamas, unless you subscribe to a Bush Jr. philosophy of "there is no gray you're either with us or you're against us".

can you understand today's actors mumbling on tv?
spidermike007 replied to Pouatchee's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
As an American, with the exception of shows like PowerBook where guys have nearly unintelligible New York accents, I find the Brits, the Scots, and the Irish to be the most difficult to understand. I usually do use subtitles as I find a lot of what they're saying to be just noise. -
What real men do when a relationship has failed and they've done what they could do to save it, is they walk away holding their head high with dignity. I'm just going to get on with my life and meet somebody new. What a 13 year old, who look like an adult does, is cling onto a car for 15 km out of some form of jealous insanity. What a goon, what a half man, what a pathetic lack of tribute to our gender.

Look I'm the least PC guy you're ever going to meet, but where does that kind of thing lead? Caning in the street, amputation of the hands for theft, how strict do you want to go? One of the things that many of us love about Thailand is the fact that it is not a police state, and I think it's a tribute to most Thai people that there isn't more mischief and crime. I think it's a testament to their nature.

The Investing Year Ahead
spidermike007 replied to Mike Lister's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I totally agree those are all very relevant points to be taken into consideration. I think the debt maybe the largest threat. Lister mentions the debt at 34 trillion for the US, but that's official and fictitious. Anybody with a good memory will recall that Cheney had Congress pass a resolution that allowed the entire Iraqi and Afghani campaign to be conducted off the books and that's likely at least an additional 10 trillion dollars in debt. Who knows how much other debt is hidden, I think it's probably closer to 47 trillion. Then there's the possibility of a major correction, many of us think the stock markets are grossly overvalued, many of us think real estate is grossly overvalued, and there are a lot of variables that could cause a major correction to happen. Once it starts can it be stopped? I don't know the time frame but I see the Dow dropping to as low as 3,500 perhaps within the next few years. -
Finally some good news about tinnitus
spidermike007 replied to gamb00ler's topic in Health and Medicine
If anybody tries this could you please let us know if you got any results from the device? I have had severe tinnitus for over 10 years now, it's non-stop, I would say the volume is about 9 out of 10, and I've tried countless therapies. Herbs, acupuncture, chiropractic, and other potential remedies, nothing has worked. Even if I could find something that would reduce the volume that would be a huge relief. Tinnitus is not something I would wish upon my worst enemy. Be very careful around very loud noise such as ambulances, and especially very loud bars, clubs, movie theatres, or concerts. Many rock stars have warned against the potential dangers of permanent tinnitus from very loud environments. I always carry ear plugs with me at this point as I'm fearful of the volume becoming even louder. -
Prison officials say Thaksin eligible for parole

Okay I think the people should let the Army rule the country forever, it's just easier. Right? -
Cashless Society
spidermike007 replied to Photoguy21's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Cash is king, I love to carry a big wad of cash in my pocket and have done so for decades, that is not going to change. Cashless is silliness and using your card to pay for a cup of coffee is the very definition of a wimp. Rarely does a day go by that I'm standing at a register waiting to pay for something with cash, and somebody is in front of me fumbling with their phone for 4 minutes, to try to pay for 20 baht item. Sometimes I just pull out 20 baht and hand it to them and say here here, please just pay and leave already. -
Phuket’s Cafe Del Mar faces police action over noise pollution
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
When I lived on Samui years ago I had a house on the side of the hill across the bay from The Ark Bar. They were such an incredible nuisance with huge speakers facing out towards the sea and the volume turned up so loud that my sliding glass doors would shake for hours and hours during the evening. The authorities never had any interest in addressing it. It was horrendous. -

spidermike007 replied to Pouatchee's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Sounds like you need a good home theater, and if you already have one sounds like you should have spent more than a thousand baht on your center speaker, which is critical to hear clear vocals. I can hear what they're saying very clearly, but I did spend quite a bit of money on my home theater. -
Granted these guys do seem like losers for causing this incident to begin with, but arresting them seems like just a bit of an overreaction. Perhaps the police coming and escorting them away and making them pay a small fine? But arrest for an argument over beach chairs? Really? This is more great publicity for the RTP and Thai tourism.

No I certainly don't make much of a big deal about it anymore, dinner with the woman, and then back watching a movie is a very pleasant evening for me. It used to be a big deal but that was a long time ago. Heard a great quote about age recently: 30s is too soon. Dying in your 30's is tragic. As is the 40s Sympathy dissapates from there. 50s is such a shame 60s is too soon 70s a good run 80s a life well lived 90s - a f***ing hell of a ride

There really is no logical reason that one can come up with to defend Hamas. They are a terrorist organization after all and they do engage in terror. I was not referring to the defense of Hamas. I was referring to the criticism of Israel and believe me as an American Jew I take a lot of flack for criticizing Israeli government policy, and that goes back 40 years, and that's a fact. The Israeli lobby, the Israeli government, and many Jews and Christians are highly intolerant of any criticism of Israel. Any. Period.

I'm sure the world leaders were lining up to see what the $800 million smile was all about.

Good on pops for giving this guy a good beat down, he certainly deserved it. You don't just show up in a young woman's room uninvited. Glad to hear that he didn't get very far, perhaps he will think twice next time, and pursue only women who are interested in him. Or is that just beyond this mental midgets capacity?

Thai herbs: Nature’s secret weapon against deadly PM2.5 dust
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Herbal therapies can be very effective. I'm a big believer in them and I've used them on multiple occasions and they've been very effective remedies. However when you're talking about particulate matter and pollution getting into the lungs let us not forget the origins of the problem. While herbal therapy might be of some benefit, closing down the sugar refineries would be a greater benefit, or having the Air Force do practice runs by bombing the sugar refineries would be an even greater benefit. Just make sure none of the employers are there when they drop the bombs. Fining the sugar growers for burning would also be a benefit. In other words, enforce the laws that are already on the books and stop obfuscating and deflecting and avoiding a solution, while protecting your super rich patrons, who are the culprits and criminals. -
Whoa, talk about jingoism. Jihad lover, that's a new one, I've heard Jew hater, I've heard anti-Semitic, but Jihad lover? Wow. Such intellectual creativity and originality, keep it up. I get called all kinds of names too as it's really not permissible to be critical of Israeli policy these days. At least without being called a surly and juvenile name.

Prison officials say Thaksin eligible for parole

Prison officials say Thaksin eligible for parole
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Not to mention getting the party that you were the "spiritual leader" of to completely sacrifice any sense of morality, ethics, principles, or representation of the people by jumping in bed with a highly toxic Army. -
I try to have some fun with these fools. I just simply tell them that they need to get a job, and trying to steal other people's money is not working for a living. I also ask them who their mother is, and why she was such an extraordinary failure at raising her child. That usually makes them go away.

Your opinion of eradication of dogs
spidermike007 replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Most soi dogs are a nuisance. Most are mangy, some are disease ridden, many are hungry, tired, and lead terrible lives of desperation. Some attack people, some terrorize neighborhoods. Many harass the domestic dogs, and cause them to bark all night long, like in my neighborhood. Nobody wants to do anything about it. Culling is the answer. If they found a budget for it, they could do it Western style. Round up the dogs, clean them up, vaccinate them, and put them up for adoption. The ones who are not adopted after 60 days are simply put down. Nothing cruel about it. Not doing something like this, is both cruel to the dogs and to the neighborhoods they infest. The average dog bite cost alot money. A series of rabies shots, etc. And that is assuming someone was not hurt badly, like a small child. So, we should prioritize the health of mangy, miserable soi dogs over the well being of the human population?
