Cat 5 cables will carry the speed you need. Trapping a fibre cable in a door is pretty slack, bad training.

If you think he’s one of the most honest cops around, you haven’t been here long either. The organization is rotten to the core, there is no way of avoiding it. You pay for your place at the table, there is no way he has got to where he is without paying and there no way he isn’t (or the people who put him there aren’t) getting his investment back. An honest cop in Thailand is akin to a vegetarian pork sausage.

Married Extension without bank book
recom273 replied to dayo202's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had a moment a couple of years back, I had my bank letter, my statements from the bank, the day prior which I had permission to do, as I had an early appointment. It’s always one page as I never touch the account with the money in. I scanned and printed a copy of the book, the night before - when we presented the papers - the elderly IO started talking to my wife and things started getting complicated, in the end I stepped in and insisted the IO to talk to me, she was asking my wife if I had an internet bank and could “shot” it - my wife didn’t have a clue what she was talking about, neither did the IO. In the end i worked out she wanted a screenshot of my banking app on my phone. Which I then sent to a colleague who then sent it to her email and she printed it off. So to say all offices want an updated book on the day of the application isn’t quite true. They do have permission to accept banking app screenshots. Doesn’t stop them wanting to physically flick backwards and forward from cover to cover in a book with half a dozen entries. Strange behavoir that. -
Volunteer teaching in electrical field
recom273 replied to Pewref's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
The correct way is the Thai way, and who are we to change that - like you say, he twisted the cables together and used a bit of insulating tape, it worked right? Our brief at the college was to teach a bit of technical English, which we did, the goal often isn’t so high for the teachers or kids, it’s exposing them to English and westerners. Like I say, I have had 3BB fitters come into my home, that I couldn’t remember that weren’t shy to speak to me when their friends were hiding outside, I used to teach PT in the oil industry, and it was great to work alongside kids that you taught in years gone by, you can see what positive effect you had (also working in an industry with western standards, which I think justifies your point). ”these people” hmmm .. -
Volunteer teaching in electrical field
recom273 replied to Pewref's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
I used to teach English at a tech college. At that time I still had some installer certificates for the data communication industry - I used to teach the data kids (who mostly go on to be 3BB / AIS installers) - I tried to speak to the agency / college / lecturers regarding my previous professional life, maybe we could work together - I tried to give the data students a course where they were able to enter westerners homes and deal with any issues in English, No one was interested. In your case, it’s an amazing progressive concept - teach them in English how to fit electric and air-con systems, they would be amazing fitters, they could deal with the English speaking customers, get more work and better tips but in reality why would anyone take on a western volunteer, when they have government teachers in cushy positions. Saying that, you have to be pretty special to work at a tec college, the Thai teachers are really chilled and knowledgeable to explain in a way the kids understand - you should try looking for a part time English teaching job at a tec college, maybe look at an agency that has positions in places with aircon, electrical / civil engineering, mechanics courses. The English isn’t of such a high level, we shared and produced our own worksheets, and did try and taught basic technical language but nothing too specific. It was good fun, a great job, you will never be without a friend in Toyota or Honda “teeechaaaa!” -
How to Get Thai Music as MP3s (outside or within Thailand)?
recom273 replied to henrik2000's topic in Audio Visual AV
Whats the issue with spotify? It has all the Thai music you could ever want? No need to keep it locally, just stream - although there are ways of downloading the music. https://www.tunefab.com/spotify/spotify-downloader.html You could also listen to Spotify, find out the info and then go to a shop to avoid the <deleted> shoot, spotify would also suggest new artists for you. Could you imagine going into HMV or Tower Records (I think they are all dead now) and asking for some English music, you will end up with a Tom Jones and Radiohead CD. Seems like you are living in the past 192 mp3s? Looking for pirated mp3 data discs in IT malls? Even my 50 year old builder has his phone attached to a speaker streaming his soundtrack for the days work. -
Wang Prachan border bounce completed
recom273 replied to Leon1980's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Agreed. I think the last time I went to PB, was about that time, I got pulled into the office and repeatedly asked why I had a ME visa. I also made that my last visit, and started using Wang Prachan, I'm glad I moved to extension, I wouldn't welcome paying a 1000B+ backhander. Policies change tho' I waited for 3 hours, was at Sadao going out to Penang on a bank holiday and the place was full of Malaysians, so it does happen. -
Sorry, I was just flying out the door - I also have an appleTV - just to clarify I was saying, you cant use a VPN app or whatever on the ATV, you need to VPN on the router, I never played around with the smartDNS.
-
(Again) In a word, No. I dont use the smart DNS feature, but I have a couple of providers, I have PIA and Surfshark as a backup, but surfshark is doesnt meet my spec, but its ok for some purposes. Have you considered a DNS provider over a VPN? I know guys have a lot of success with this provider. https://dns4me.net/ Its a little bit fiddly to setup, but may suit your needs. Especially with AppleTV - you cant use a VPN with that, can you? Do you use a systemwide smartDNS? The link I posted, you can get a real free month trial. Maybe worth a shot.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2022)
recom273 replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yes, I saw it was around and about and started watching it last night - Some awesome little camera tricks that made it interesting apart from the tense action. There is a new series pack out, it looks like someone forgot to include the forced subtitles for the foreign dialogue. The new pack fixes the issue. Currently watching Pennyworth S03 that appeared a couple of weeks back. -
There is a bagel shop in Roi-Et - you can find them on Facebook. I find them quite easy to make myself, if you can be bothered.
-
If you need to ask 3BB about international routing, ping times, port questions, etc you can call the helpline and requests a callback from the ISP Team. There is one guy who speaks English and is really helpful. He usually calls back within the day.
-
Did you try calling the English speaking helpline? I have never used a shop, just mail order - and phone service as pretty on point. tbh, when I walk past and look at the shop staff they could be manning the car shampoo department in Big C - do they know anything about computers? I would expect a shrug of the shoulders and a mai leu. I had issues with WD HDD, although I have bought others from them, when checking the serial with phone helpline they said it wasn’t one of theirs and gave me WD Panthip straight away without any question, just one time they were helpful.

I didn't say that they don't throttle .. read the post and the original by @Mickeymaus What package are you on? I believe that the cheaper packages may have a some form of traffic shaping - I certainly don't experience any slowdown at certain times of the day on 1gb up and down. 10 years ago on a copper line between 6.00 and 9.00 pm, yes - I used to pay for the premier package with a lower contention ratio, but they still throttled, and were quite open about it. I could pay for a lease line @ 5000B/month, if I recall correctly. Do you ever call the ISP team at 3BB and get a definitive answer?
-
Yes - this is what 3BB told me a long while back when I was on a copper line. They claimed, they don't throttle traffic, however you may notice slowdown at peak times due to demand, I don't think its so relevant now with FTTH.

Now, Im a truck owner, I don't believe how many people ride without lights - <deleted> - I have nearly had a few oncoming riders over the front of the bonnet whilst overtaking on a dark road. If they don't have the money for a lightbulb, they sure as hell dont have the cash to have their bike extracted from my radiator. Cant the local authorities just give them out for free? Im sure if there was some kind of campaign they could find a way of misappropriating a few hundred K and still buy enough front light bulbs for every village in the district.
-
Ah yes! You proved me wrong! Excellent! Yes, I was never able to used it until this year, HY didn’t accept online submissions, I used to send the wife as she would often pass the office. Whoever decided on the current overhaul with the email confirmation and reminder email should be instantly promoted.

@Will27 I noticed another season of Crime Beat was broadcast last week, I remember you mentioned it before. -
When things change here, its usually for the worse - I cant think of anything that has changed during my time for the better.

Thai language schools (not online) recommendation?
recom273 replied to amexpat's topic in Chiang Mai
Is UTL still running (face 2 face)? They used to have some good units, for intermediate students, like newspaper reading. I used to go to AUA and listen to interesting topics such as Royal family, religion and social issues - but AFAIK they have changed the methodology these days. (So sorry, I didnt see that you were asking about CNX, I saw Panthip and ..)
