  1. @transam I used to ride my bike up from the Deep South every year, one year I hit bad weather/ spent an extra day with mechanical issues and ended up at the consulate on Friday morning - If you think Tue/Wed will be the best, try a Friday, I was the only westerner in the queue, this is when Laos nationals apply - I dropped off my passport and returned a week later to pick up the visa.
  2. And this is what EU farmers said 30-40 years ago .. but they adjusted. they coped. You are not wrong in what you say, the soil benefits from burning, when you plough back in the stubble, there is less nitrogen depletion as the straw breaks down - if you plough back the straw then you would need to increase the chemicals used. This is a weak argument, what you are saying is, burning should continue because its neighbors also burn and that the plough discs wear out. IMO its not a simple matter of just penalizing or restricting burning - compensation needs to be awarded to those who comply, supermarkets and consumer habits need to change, education and understanding - How much money is lost every year due to burning? that's loss of tourist income, long term damage to the countries tourist image, and damage to health and environment. What is returned? very little financial gain.
  3. Well, something NEEDS to be done. I'm not suggesting that people need to be penalized, but the world cannot accept that just because some of the farmers have little money that they can cause such a catastrophic impact, on the planet along with the quality of life and health of so many. This may not even be a Thai issue, if supermarkets and their chain were to be made aware / put pressure on suppliers / pay more, then this yearly mess maybe wouldn't occur. Why is it that field burners are a minority in my area? Every morning and night the village headmen are asking people over the PA systems not to burn fields, and on the most part, it's working - it's only a few selfish individuals that persist. Is ignorance linked to poverty?
  4. Yellow Jackets is back for another season - enjoying Last King Of The Cross and Liason. Top Chef S12 has gone worldwide and is quite interesting being filmed in London.
  5. Currently watching Our Boys, an Israeli HBO drama about events following a kidnap and murder - currently on e04, interesting, a change from the norm. There is a trailer for succession - which has prompted me to start on the first season.
  6. There are a couple of reasons why you should buy reolink - they aren’t a Chinese company, compared to Hikvision, Dahua and all the other rebranded cameras reolink are a lot better quality. There is a guy called The Hook Up on YouTube, I'm sure you have already researched him, he compares the different camera manufacturers. Buying a half decent reolink camera will give you so much more detail, but that all depends upon how much performance you want from your cameras. Reolink seem to be compatible with other NVRs, and software like blue iris, where sometimes other companies fail. There is software like neolink, which will allow easy integration to home assistant and homebridge. Again, depends how far you want to go down the rabbit hole. I have used their cameras for a few years, recently I chose the mid priced reolink cameras - I bought them from Reolink aliexpress - official store, they arrived via China post / Thai post and didn’t incur any extra charges.
  7. A Thai DL is not dependent upon your visa, TV holders can apply for a DL. The difficulty arises because they need a certificate of residence, not all immigration offices will issue a CertRes, for example Khon Kaen Immigration will issue a certificate to anyone, if you hold a Non-O / B then they are free, but if you hold a TV they charge 500B. This is accepted at the DLT and they will either allow you to take a test or transfer your IDP - but you will only be ever issued a 2 year temp license on a TV. I have no wish to split hairs with you, because on the whole, it does seem difficult for TV holders to apply for a Thai DL, just trying to help others who may read this.
  8. I have some big socks, I needed them for my motocross / adv boots - I bought skiing socks from aliexpress. Is this what you mean?
  9. You don’t mention if you have bike endorsements on your UK license - not the provisional, the A1 & A2 (afaik). if you haven’t, you just do a test (practical, health and theory) and watch a video. A local driving school near me was doing a day course for 1000B - seems a lot better than going through all waiting around at the LTA.
  10. +1 rock solid when accessing iplayer.
  11. I started watching Line in the sand last night, I think it’s a few years old now, but really easy to binge on. Thanks to whoever discovered it.
  12. I like Pangasius fried in batter. I know it's loaded with heavy metals and whatever, but when served with plenty of home made tatar sauce, once in a while (I guess we buy two bags of fillets a year, if that) What about the salmon in Makro? is that line caught from sustainable managed fisheries? Suprise surprise ..
  13. What’s worse? Shopee ..
  14. Yes, I saw a infographic the other day, Thailand dumps an estimated 22,806 tonnes into the sea, the Philippines 356,371 tonnes - a lot of that has to do with the coastline to land mass ratio, (or so im told) but its still a shocking amount. I started Last King of the Cross last night, pretty good with some familiar faces from Mr. Inbetween - Also Hello Tomorrow! hmmmm, not sure if that one makes the grade.
  15. When we came to look at the land, he had built a wall around his 1.5 Rai plot, grassed it over and planted some nice big trees. We never met him, there’s only two other houses in the dead end soi, one is a retired army guy, the other a teacher nearing retirement - everyone is great, people in the village are lovely, then this clown. If he doesn’t want to talk or whatever, that’s fine, but he will not stop interfering, I have never come across anyone like him in Thailand before, his attitude is so un-Thai. I don’t see him as a threat, I don’t think he is brave enough to do anything silly, just like the camera, it’s always small things, no one cares about being filmed - why point it at my builders? it would be beneficial to point it down the line of the wall to catch people climbing over, he has also demonstrates he monitors the feed - LOL!!!!
  16. No one can talk to this guy, not the local government, village headman or any of the other locals that have a problem. We have tried to be pleasant to the guy, we met him the first time, he spoke nicely, showed us his garden then started talking lies to people of things that never happened in that “meeting”. Still, we invited them to our ground breaking ceremony, he didn’t attend but stayed in his house (lol maybe watching on his tablet) and then appeared in his garden everyone had gone home. Contrary to others ideas, I’m not paranoid or actually give a flying one, he can take as much construction video as he wants, but I just wanted to learn about the legality. I actually forgotten until I read a post in another forum, which got me wondering, If he’s doing it now, what’s to stop him putting another or multiple cameras along his property line into any of my windows. Maybe he thinks he is bullying or worrying us, he’s definitely a strange one.
  17. Thanks .. I wasnt sure if remembered correctly about a recent change. There is a bit of a back story, the guy has done something to his plumbing, and he’s directing grey water from his house into the road infront, the neighbours asked him to stop, the water flows onto the road and then on to my land, he thinks there isn’t a problem to make a muddy swamp at the front of my lane and for people to drive through his green slime because he can’t be bothered to install adequate plumbing. No one can talk to this guy. The tessaban engineer came to check my works the other day and while he was talking to foreman, he comes from his house and shouts as he is storming out of his house “come here!!” to the engineer, and then berates him because my ex-builder may have built a wall 1-2cm too close to his boundary. We aren’t locals, but it’s a village, you can see everyone has connected to each others walls, that everyone gets along, the locals are awesome, but everyone hates this guy and his bullying ways, he isn’t a local at all, doesn’t participate in village activities. He must have been watching the engineer through his camera system, which I find weird. I have cameras myself that I will reinstall in this new place, but I only really use the front gate camera, to open the gate, the rest are for recording. Anyway, when the garage goes up he will get a pic of a rendered wall and he will change it back. I was more concerned with the legality of what he is doing rather than stopping him.
  18. I posted before about issues with my neighbour, he’s a bit of a bully. I notice he has 8 CCTV cameras on 4 corners of his house. I’m sure in the past he had them facing along his boundary, as you would expect, but now he has one turned directly to observe my construction. I’m not totally paranoid in regard to CCTV, infact quite the opposite, I will enjoy playing with a the advanced capabilities of my own system when building work has completed, such a using a Thai ANPR system to open my front gate. I’m also very aware of catching his property in my cameras and will be positioning them carefully. When the garage is complete, it will obscure my house from this camera, but it seems obvious that this camera has no security purpose, its sole purpose is to film my builders and myself. I’m sure the system connects to a cheap NVR and he views the feed on his tablet. Could his actions be illegal? Could I ask him to point his to camera in along his boundary line as it should be and not directly at my property (it’s not at my property, it’s directed at my house, for no security purpose, basically he’s spying on me)
  19. Give us a clue, is that the Egyptian "The Accused" - worth a watch?
  20. The last series of Snowfall appeared. I just started BBCs Gold and the first episode of a new series of Channel 5 Police suspect No.1 which is a copycat of 24 hours in police custody, but not quite .. filmed in Norwich police station.
  21. Damn - is that the show written by Fiddy cent? That’s not woke .. that’s was just total garbage, I lasted 10 mins of s01e01 - I’m really surprised it’s made it to S03.
  22. Do people really count the woke score? As there are black people in the world, it never surprises me that they appear on TV. Now that you point it out, I agree the fact that the kid was deaf added nothing to the plot. Sometimes, at the end of my day, I just want to sit back, not think so much worry about politics or acting and just watch loads of zombies being shot and special effects.
  23. Yeah man, it started off a bit dull, you could see that it was following the plot line of a zombie invasion PS game. I watched the episode in which they are escaping from the city, I thought it was pretty “intense”, and am enjoying the series.
  24. Honda used to do training for bikes, the place was on Ramkhamhaeng Road, BKK - I’m sure it was in English. Not sure if they did scooters, tho’ As the other poster says there are “driving schools” in every provincial city but the emphasis is on passing the test and smoothing over the process for a small fee, typically 1000B. Surely, if you can drive a car, you know the rules of the road - you can teach yourself by watching “a twist of the wrist” on YouTube and practicing in BigC carpark? It’s probably more informative than a Thai driving school.
  25. Mate, I always stick with recommendations from here, there is like 7 series of it or something like. I just started E01 - it looks dated, because it is!
