  1. He's talking about a very small part of the town. Udorn is actually quite large, one of the largest in Isaan. Lots to do if you can be bothered to find it. The surrounding areas are very nice too.
  2. Neither my wife nor I attended VFS when we applied for our daughter's UK passport. We did it via an agent so we didn't need to make 2 x 750kms round trip. Thai passport is a different matter. Both parents require in attendance, up to the age of the applicant being, I think, 20
  3. It was acted upon quickly as she is one of the enemy. Starmer couldn't believe his luck. Had it been a member of the shadow cabinet things would likely have taken longer.
  4. With the amount of accidents in Thailand each day, with hundreds of injuries and many deaths, it is unlikely all would be covered in the media. Bad reporting anyway. The Bangkok to Ubon/Ubon to Bangkok bus doesn't go anywhere near Phayakaphum Phisai. It goes along Route 24.
  5. Actually, "Ahan Jair" is extremely popular in Buriram. There are festivals every year and many stalls in the Walking Street market every night.
  6. When I first moved to Buriram choices were limited. I tried my own things to get a "taste of home". I remember making salted pork to replicate bacon. Most of it guess work as we didn't gave "Google" in those days. Since the birth of the internet I've become more adventurous. Making my own tomato sauce for pizza, buying a vacuum packer to pack and age beef, setting up a crude version of a smoker, making real bacon, sausages, Indian curries and tortilla.....the list goes on. It's great to be able to do this with "Google" as my friend.
  7. Fresh seafood is one advantage of being in Pattaya. Can't think of many others. ???????? Pizza? I make my own.
  8. Then I cordially invite you to Buriram. We'll go out for dinner every night to a different place. It's going to take a while. Hope you have time on your hands.
  9. 5555. That's funny and far from reality. I've lived in Isaan since 1998. Seen alot of changes. Food choices being one of them. Increase in locals having money another. The pork and chicken in the local wet markets is good quality and affordable to most. That's why I go shopping before 7 am. If much later all sold out. Admittedly, there is an initial shock to the system. I put it down to the fact the pork is so fresh the blood content is high. In UK pigs will be hung for a week. In Thailand they are on the slab within hours. Doesn't take long to toughen your stomach up.
  10. Sakon Nakhon is hardly the heart of Isaan. It's right up in the North East of the region. Isaan food is great. You didn't say what food you are looking for. I guess Western Food. In which case you can add Surin, Sissaket, Nong Khai, Ubon, Buriram, Roiet, Kalasin, Mukdahan to your list.
  11. Then Isaan is for you. A plethora of food choices available. A lot cheaper than the tourist spots and, in most cases, better.
  12. Pattaya and Ao Nong are tourist spots. The Indian restaurants in KK were used as examples of food available. Not cultural diversity. So, what is your point?
  13. The Crown are net contributors to the economy. The public will not be out of pocket. You knew that anyway. You just wanted to stir, I guess.
  14. My daughter is working in health care. 100k a month? 99% of the population don't earn that.
  15. Less English, yes. No problem if one can be bothered to learn Thai. Less western food, there are 4 restaurants and 5 suppliers of western food in our small provincial town. Less diverse culture, up here it's in bundles. Less nightlife, hadn't noticed. Less farangs, probably.
  16. Your impression of Isaan is outdated. It's not "being around poor people all the time". Besides, those that I know that are less fortunate money wise are not depressing.
  17. I told you already. I stayed past the original 3 month because I liked it in Isaan. I didn't meet my wife until I'd been her over 2 years. Daughter has now finished her education and has a good job. Isaan education served her very well. Our provincial hospital is excellent.
  18. I arrived with a friend from UK. He's still in Isaan because he likes it too. That makes 3.
  19. I was 28 and single when I first arrived in Isaan. I came to teach kids in the poorer schools basic English. I enjoyed it so much I stayed beyond the original 3 months that my air ticket was valid for. I met a lovely lady and we had a daughter and got married, in that order. 555. In those days there was not much demand for foreign teachers where we were. We move to a suburb of Bangkok so I could work. Hated virtually every moment of the 5 years we were there. Busy, noisy, hot, bad air pollution and generally not to our taste. As soon as opportunities arose for work back home we moved as quickly as we could. Back in Isaan is much more what we like. So, there you are. The first person you know of who moved to and lives in Isaan because they want to.
  20. Far be it from me to split hairs but, there are not any cities in Isaan. In fact, the only city in Thailand is Bangkok.
