Bad News Not to be rude but yes you have missed the boat but not the boat you think. You missed the boat of spending time with your daughter & wife. Although it is hard to tell from your post if that was something you wanted Good News You still have time. The boat you pretty much missed was the life with your Thai wife & watching your daughter growing up. The boat to move to Thailand was always there & still is. You still have some great years ahead if you choose to be in her life. Money wise what you describe is fine as most have said. It is not a lot but it is sufficient. Yes medical is the tough nut for all as they age but put a million or two aside for that & you should be ok. But mainly realize your 72 & you probably do not qualify nor can you afford insurance. So get on with it & enjoy your final years (if you want) with your daughter & wife rather than working towards some $$$ goal. At 72 you do not have all that much time left. Even if you remarkably had 20 years left that is just a blink of the eye. Remember Y2k? That was 23 years ago! If you were on your death bed now what would you be saying ? I wish I moved to Thailand years ago? or I wish I had more $$ to leave my daughter who I never really knew? Good Luck!

It was awhile back but I remember when it was the opposite So you just need to keep your bulk where you get the best rates I was getting 0.25% in the USA but in Thailand at Bank of Ayudhya (Krungsri) I was getting 4% in their Mee Tae Dai savings. You might try asking them if you can pay their account in Thailand directly. All Visa Fee's paid to US based Thai Consulates are forwarded/paid into a Kasikorn Bank account (even though paid in USD) So if you let them know your in Thailand & can pay direct to their Kasikorn account & show verification it may be an option

I have often heard good quotes for WR Life but have not heard if they have a good track record of paying in Thailand or not? I mean their price even full coverage with no deductible is only less than $100 a year more than a $500 deductible/Excess Have you had any experience of filing a claim with them? Thanks

Seems fair enough to say there is life before birth so why not life after death? The shell/body /vehicle ...exists at first empty & then is inhabited by what ever you want to call it life/soul/etc etc. Why wouldn't that also be allowed to leave someday when the vehicle can no longer run?

Well of course most enjoy SS .. but the truth is SS was always a tax & most (if Lucky) receive way more back than they ever paid in. Which is why none should be 100% reliant on it as it cannot be guaranteed to continue forever. As to supposed benefits ....there are many for citizens living in country. Of course as you say less for Expats but that is basically the same as any other country & in fact still better than many US citizens abroad for instance get COLA upgrades to their SS while other countries freeze those out of country from getting cost of living adjustments to their form of pension/SS . US citizens abroad even got stimulus payments which is quite funny when you consider "stimulus payments" were given to stimulate the US economy ???? But yes living abroad is... as it should be ...mostly a get it your dang self service life . Besides so many left claiming they escaped a Nanny State so they shouldn't complain they don't get looked after abroad ????

So if tomorrow the USA said...We have zero allegiance to those who live in xxx & we are stopping any SS payments to those ex-patriots..... you would be fine with that right ????
