Now why would you keep on embarrassing yourself with this type of dull-witted comments?
-
My experience here, is that Thai people around you will establish some kind of contact, with the ultimate goal of obtaining a financial gain from you. When they fail at that, they will stop interacting with you, to the point of totally ignoring your presence. You are in a country where the culture is mainly about selfishness. And I saw that also between Thais themselves. Remember, the culture here is about 3 concepts: 1.-Generate money. 2.-Taking care (I take care of you, you take care of me- or for a fee) 3.- Saving face (The source of 90 % of the lies here) Someone not part of this in the life of a Thai, is next to useless. Go and enjoy your life here. It is very much possible. Regards

Nah, never had that.... hummm, how to say that politely, humm. Oh well, I just chose to come live near Patong.????
-
So this guy has never been able to find the girl of his dream in all of his life. So he turns to Patong to increase his chances of being successful now. But needs also advice on zooming-in more precisely on that part of the world, you know, precision might be key. Desperate I presume...

One killed and five injured in 4-vehicle crash in Chonburi
Andre0720 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Well, you are quite right. I would normally be the first to call out a sophism in a debate. In this instance, the sophism could be that: "It is not because doctors get worried that smoking weeds might be an issue in a society, that doctors would consequently not be worried about road safety." Sometimes off topic comments could be useful, but you are right in questioning its usefulness in this instance. Just that I remember my youthful time back then. Made us drive slower hehe. And perhaps every chance one gets to declare the dangers on these roads might eventually save some lives here... -

Well, his post was articulate, not ad hominem, did not seem to favor dope over road safety, looks like proposing points of comparison to determine soundness of actions... Facts are facts, if it offends some people, oh well.... -

Is a metric ton the same as an imperial ton? Regardless, if you're writing for a US audience, remember: A 'ton' is a North American short ton (907.18474 kg or 2,000 lbs). An 'imperial ton' is a British long ton (1,016.047 kg or 2,240 lbs). A 'metric ton' is a tonne (1,000 kg or 2,204.6 lbs). To further complicate things, a Ton may relate to two different weights. In the United States, they measure by the US Ton or short Ton, while the British Ton, known as an Imperial Ton or long Ton is heavier. A short Ton is the US customary version, is equal to 2,000 pounds A long Ton is the mostly outdated Imperial Ton, is equal to 2,240 pounds A tonne, also known as a metric Ton, is equal to 1000kg, (or 2,204.6 pound But quite right about confusion in the US: Why does Ton vs tonne matter? The difference between measuring in Metric or Imperial has implications in international trade, especially in large projects with many moving parts. In 1999, NASA lost a $125 million Mars orbiter because of a Metric/Imperial confusion. Reports stated that a contracted engineering team used the English units of measurement ,while the agency’s team used the metric system. The results are now strewn across the surface of Mars. -

Hence, the polarity.... A left wing individual will find K. Harris competent. A right wing individual will definitely find her crazy. A left wing individual will find Biden able to find people to compensate for his ineptitude. A right wing individual will see the that Biden does not play with a full deck. Are the borders under control? Are the borders under control? The answers are shameful... -

"Errrr, given I don't believe we have democracies, how can I "lean away" from them. " Elections is all about democracy. We vote, we are in a democracy. We elect a leader, every 4 years or so. Then this leader will do goddam well what he wants to do in the following 4 years. And id you are not happy with that, you can vote next time with someone wanting to be a leader, with with opposing views of the world. And this fellow will then do whatever he.... Oh well, you get the picture... -

By definition, politics is based on polarities. So yes, he was on one side of the spectrum. As extreme as any president ever was, no contest there. I am not from America, so I am not fully knowledgeable about it all. But then, what is your take on Biden and Kamala Harris, who I am looking at, by definition, from a distance, but still give me an impression of being just different kind of crazies... -
"there needs to be laws brought in that dog owners have to take full responsibility". Nah. Very obviously (to me anyway ????), what is needed is enough time for 3 or 4 generations of cross-breeding of Thais with foreigners, in the hope that the resulting new genetics would have widened to include some attitudes of 'responsibility'. Nothing else has the slightest chance of success...

Viral Tattoo: Foreigner causes internet stir after weird request

Just like this teen walking in the market probably with her mother, wearing a nice t-shirt that read: "I <deleted> on first date'. No kidding. -
Thais, They do not like it either. They do not like other Thais making loud noises waking them up. They do not like other Thais driving loud motorbikes and interrupting their discussions. They do not like other Thais driving their vehicles too fast and endangering others on the roads. But they have stopped thinking about it, because they know that there is noting that they can do about it. And Thais, They do not like foreigners driving loud motorbikes and interrupting their sleep. They do not like foreigners driving loud motorbikes and interrupting their discussions. They do not like foreigners driving their vehicles too fast and endangering others on the roads. But Thais have stopped thinking about that also, because they know that there is nothing that they can do about it. Thais know that many foreigners, mainly the 25-35 age range, they come to their country because they can also do all these immoral acts with the same impunity culturally granted to Thais... So the words of wisdom are the same: "Stop thinking about it, because there is nothing that anyone can do about it."

Renewing Insurance for a Friend's Motorscooter
Andre0720 replied to Barley's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Right, the green book is a necessity for each step of the renewal. Irrelevant who is in possession of this book (Perhaps unless the police is looking for that book hehe). A friend of mine left the country with his green book, for a new CBR 150. Never knew why he could not mail it back. The motorbike ended up being given away, to be used up country, no way to get registration and insurance sticker... Now I see the reply of 'Onemorefarang'. Regarding the Green book, story many years ago, perhaps 14 years ago. Maybe the process got changed in the meantime. But back then, we looked a long time for a solution for this unusable motorbike. Ended up being away.. -
At first, you claim that one cannot compare Thailand to Western countries, and then you go on doing exactly that, comparing them. What a start. And then you claim that 'When a country is not well developed, most people are poor, most jobs are simple, and education is basic or poor too, then most people have problems'. You describe the world as I knew it when I was a child. Grade 12 max, then factory workers, mill workers, families of 4 to 6 children average. Enough to eat though, and I do not know what problems you are referring to that we should have had because of that. Seems like an apology to the Thai culture. In my youth, I remember people following the laws, we did not ignore safety and environmental protection. Nice clean towns, safe, hardly ever saw accidents on the roads. Actually, I never saw one... Never heard of a stabbing, or murder, or assault, let alone rape. Even if the latter at the time might have been kept from the public eye. So please, yes, compare different countries, look at the characteristics of the ones that do well, and get the countries that not do well to copy. It would require a change in culture, here is the hurdle.

Australian big bike rider crashes into power pole in Chonburi and dies
Andre0720 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Well, you are right all the way Richard. How fast is too fast. How is to know. But I would think that the person who got into an accident, or was able to avoid it certainly knows. If this fellow would have been driving at 40 km/h, as you propose, he might well have survived. And in the case that you describe about yourself, going perhaps 20 to 30 km/h at guess, you avoided a collision, because you were not going too fast. Close call it was. I had some close calls also, and every time, I remember thinking, geez, I was going a tad bit too fast than normal. Lesson for next time. I have driven some 150,000 km on these dangerous roads here, and I follow a rule: slow down, busy roads, 40 km max, big roads, 60 to 70 Km/h. My friends do the same. Never had an accident, any of us. You seem to have good rules of your own. I see how people drive on these roads, here they say 'Mai gua thai', not afraid to die. Thais and tourists alike. And the bikes are getting bigger, so the danger is getting higher. Of course there will be exceptions that will confirm the rule, some people driving carefully end up dead because of exceptional circumstances. But the rule is simple, drive at a speed that your intuition tells you is safe. Not a secret as to how to survive on these roads.... -

It does not matter if the soi was small, and it does not matter if he was wearing a helmet. In this type of accident, one vehicle is typically going too fast. And it does not appear to be the truck....
