  1. The Highway Patrol in Western countries is used to stop and ticket drivers committing moving violations, therefore helping limit that number of dangerous drivers on the road. The Highway Patrol in Thailand is used to escort elites, therefore helping Thailand have The Most Dangerous Roads In The World.
  2. I found that list today. I need to write up the list for my wife and get keep a copy of my current Will and the list of items that the US Embassy will need and keep them in where my wife can find them at home. That info helped. Thanks!
  3. Panu Clinic, 14 Thapea Soi 5. Used to be open in the evening. I haven't been there in a few years so not sure if the clinic is still open. The last time I walked by the signs were still there though.
  4. I think that an excellent suggestion. You won't know until you know, so best to rent and try them out before buying. Honestly, I used a Honda Dream when living in Chiang Mai. Small enough to easily cut through traffic, powerful and geared well enough to climb Doi Suthep and mountains in general. The don't make them anymore though. Still got mine. 14 years old and still looks almost new. Well made bike.
  5. Agreed, which in my humble opinion makes buying a new bike the better option. At least you know it hasn't been dropped.
  6. I was in Chiang Mai today for chores. Chang Moi, Thapae, and Loi Kroh as well as the Nimmanahaemin area which was just packed with Chinese and farang. Wororot Market was impossible. It was busier than I've seen since 2019. I'm glad for the business, but..... I was happy to get out of town and head back to the sticks in Lamphun.
  7. Fly. You'll be happier. And no. The buses are not safe.
  8. Just curious, but what about Vientiane? Is the Thai Consulate still open there? Or is Savannakhet the only place you can get the Multi-entry visa?
  9. Try a private Thai psychiatrist in a private clinic. You'll pay a doctor's fee and should be able to get the amount you need. Forgot about the large hospitals. If you live in Chiang Mai (or visit) there are other options. I won't lecture you on benzos. Just keep this in your back pocket for a rainy day. https://www.benzoinfo.com/ashtonmanual/
  10. What does she need from the US Embassy if anything?
  11. I could use suggestions on creating a list of things that need to be done by my wife if I die before her. Fyi, I'm a US citizen. Who does she need to contact, what forms will she need to obtain, how does she execute my Will, etc.
  12. The first casualty of war is the truth. All sides of the conflict utilize propaganda: The US/NATO needs to assure the West that Russia is losing badly. Russia needs to assure Russians that they are winning soundly. The "truth?" You'll never see "the truth" in the short-term. Who is gaining the advantage (I'll dispense with the word, 'winning') and territory, and the ability to project power and governance will only become apparent in the long-term. I'd check the term "winning" as one side or the other may eventually decide that "winning" is kicking the table with the chessboard over and killing everyone on the planet. Just saying... Everybody knows that the dice are loaded Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed The poor stay poor, the rich get rich That's how it goes Everybody knows. -Everybody Knows, Leonard Cohen
  13. Sounds like a broken record. Half of Myanmar lives here doing jobs Thais won't do. Out in the rice fields it's Myanmar migrant labor working the fields as the old generation dies off and the new generation spends most of their days high on yaba. My village is probably a microcosm of the rest of rural Thailand and we have a lot of Myanmar migrants doing the hard and dirty work.
  14. Sounds like he hit the power pole given the injuries.
  15. 2020 through the middle of 2022 was nice and quiet. I noticed the same thing on my last trip to Chiang Mai. I wouldn't call it "normal" but it was more normal than anytime I've seen since 2019. Much of the downtown businesses in CM were forced closed by the lack of tourists and the Machiavellian restrictions starting in 2020 so thing are still a bit off. But on the flip side business seems to be booming around the outskirts of Chiang Mai if traffic is any indication plus the springing up of numerous 'bedroom communities' now filling old rice fields with new homes.
  16. Yeah - put hydrogen peroxide up your nose. I'll wish you hadn't.
  17. My wife orders lots of food whenever we go out. The food goes home and is eaten over the next day or two.
  18. What gets wasted? What we don't consume goes either to the our dogs or our compost pile.
  19. Agreed. Ivermectin is an all-round good pest control med. Kills worms throughout the body including heart-worms, kills ticks, and eliminates mange. Gotta be careful with the dosage though which is 0.3 to 0.6mg per kilogram of weight depending on what pest you're trying to control, e.g., it take a very small amount to control heart worms. The one downside to watch for is that some breeds of dogs (some terriers and collies if I remember right) can't metabolize Ivermectin but the adverse reactions are rare. You can find info on dosages and precautions online. I wouldn't use it on my cats though. I stick to Frontline for the kitties.
  20. Lamisil or Canesten cream. But then again, if the Canasone isn't doing the trick, I'd go to a dermatologist at a local hospital and let them have a look.
  21. If a foreigner goes to the US and rents a car or motorcycle without an IDP and valid license (car if driving a car and motorcycle if driving motorcycle), then the fine is going to be more than the equivalent of 1000 THB. Just saying, that when foreigners come here without either driving experience on a motorcycle or a motorcycle endorsement on their home country license? They put themselves and everyone around them in danger. So, imho, the 1000 THB fine fits. Fyi, when I first came here 15 years back, I came with my US drivers license with M/C endorsement and a IDP. I was stopped at road blocks during that time, show my licenses and IDP and was on my way.
