Hat Yai is almost back to normal, now that the border has reopened and flights to KL and Singapore resumed. With Malaysian school term 2 holiday break starting tomorrow it will be a busy couple of weeks in Hat Yai. With money tight for most people, many won't want to venture too far for a holiday, so Southern Thailand is just right. Always worth remembering that Malaysia is 40% non-Muslim, and many do like to drink, and it's more often whiskey or brandy (by the bottle) rather than beer. People who think Malaysians are low spenders have obviously never had a night out in KL or Hat Yai.
