  1. More than enough. Thanks. I hope it does not cost an arm and a leg, because this is would be really a good contribution to the overall safety. Working now on many levels to make us feel good once we should leave our home for a while. The house becomes nicer and nicer but as well more expensive. Have left the original sales price range already quite a bit.
  2. Who told you that ? I just recently had to give in a copy for an immigration task.
  3. @sometimewoodworker and @KhaoYai Does anybody have by chance the telephone No. of Prime Asia ? I mailed them two times for a ball-park figure quotation and received no answer to-date. I then tried to access their website. My security systems strongly discourage me from doing so. I really would like to get an idea about the cost involved for security glass for all my windows. If Prime Asia is not the right partner then maybe there are others (sigh - maybe not).
  4. As long as there is a lift any floor is welcome.
  5. Parking Building B sounds good. I will see if I can identify that in Google Maps and then try to program the GPS accordingly. If no parking is free then Plan B (parking on the road - no idea how big the road is there) still remains intact should not one way streets prevent that. We will reseve a bigger chunk of time for that all - since our experiences with parking in Bangkok in general are not the best.
  6. In Juli I have to visit the Immigration in Bangkok at Chaengwattana for the first time. I was told to use Entrance 2 of the Building B. I do not know the surroundings of this office. My wife will drive me from Pattaya to this place, but we obviously need a parking there. Especially because for longer distances I need to use a wheelchair, it would be nice if the parking is near to "Entrance 2 of Building B", wherever that is in the Chaengwattana Complex. Can anybody who is familiar with this Immigration Office tell me reliably where it would be best to park our car ? Parking in Bangkok can be a nightmare if you do not know where and if you miss the proper entrance you might be doomed to make an involuntary sightseeing tour of prolonged duration. Our car has a good GPS, but nevertheless.. Thanks a lot for your help.
  7. I have not really an idea about the US education system. Just heard that at times you may compensate your intellectual ability by being good at sports (baseball or similar). But I went to school in Germany and Switzerland and I can assure you that a Diploma (called Matura) from a Swiss High School (allows for higher University studies worldwide) is lightyears apart from what they call here in Thailand a Matayom 6. I dare to say that because I know some people who have attained just such a Matayom 6. For the Universities (Thai and worldwide) exist as well published evaluations. I do not recall that any of the Thai Universities stands out in that list. People who have money enough send their children abroad for study. I know some. So not really same same I think.
  8. The OP has a very valid point here. And it extends far beyond World History to many aspects of life. Now you always have to distinguish between Knowledge - which is just that (nowadays an Internet search could help to compensate your own) and Understanding in a broad and narrow sense. Broad because what you know may be connected to other phenomena (actually the usual case) - this needs a wider horizon and broad knowledge of the effects of that dependence. Narrow because it might be quite concentrated on a single thing (like how to repair an Aircon) Thais may sometimes be very good at the narrow understanding - and it is understandable that they might be reluctant to accept advice from a foreigner and probably non-specialist in their field of expertise then. And there may be cases where indeed the circumstances in Thailand are different from what you know (because of climate or other maybe even sociological circumstances). But when it comes to a broad understanding the deficiencies of the Thai Education System might play a significant role. Indeed in average they seem not to understand how things interact and are dependend on each other - like in economics (even the most simple - everybody knows the joke of "raise the price if the demand goes down to compensate for your losses). Of course this is a severe flaw of the simplest knowledge. Not because people are not inteligent, but because they were not educated. Most do not seem to have the slightest idea what a business plan is and how important this approach is. It is in this area that valuable advice from a Western University Graduate in Economics is even turned down. And I find this is disturbing. It may be their pride to admit that they do not know and feel inferior and then they may simply ignore the importance of a business or budget planning, because this implies to think about something that lies in the future and somehow their minds are programmed to think about what is now - thinking about the future later because its planning cannot be done anyway since you cannot know what will actually come. Maybe you win in the lottery ? This seems to be a very common mind setting here - a cultural thing rather than ignorance. I face quite a lot of difficulties to convey this idea of longer range thinking even to my Thai wife which I know for more than 20 years. Now as far as pure knowlege is concerned the deficiencies of the schooling system become even more obvious. They do not learn very much about the basics of Mathematics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, especially Multiple Languages and these things that everybody in Western countries learns. My stepdaughter attends a technical college with the main aim of "Marketing". I did never see a plan what she is acutally learning. She seems to understand English a bit but far from being of use in a business context. Languages are extremely important and may at times get you a job only because of your ability to speak a rare language. Then - it cannot be denied - I must mention the possiblity of a xenophobic mindset (to what extend is of course quite individual). "A foreigner telling me what is right and wrong ?". Big smile in the best case, total ignorance for what you have said with the best intentions. On top comes another cultural issue I think. Thais like it simple. Complicated although helpful approaches are not "sanuk". And thats it then. Dropped. Anyway, the most important thing is that we as individuals get along well. No anger, no greed. Honesty. Based on that, slowly slowly a more sophisticated intellectual landscape and education may grow. I hope we just see the very beginning of that.
  9. For the price one may take the risk as far as the product is concerned. The Ondillo mentioned above is more than 6 times as expensive. And this does not even include shipping from Germany and Import Tax - which might inflate the price much more further.

    Beef Liver

I often eat raw meat here. But not from the market. I buy the meat mostly in the Villa Supermarket and my wife creates a superb Beafsteak Tartar for me. I did even eat raw liver (not my favourite, though) and raw chicken breast. They serve it in Japan with Soy Sauce and Wasabi, like a special kind of Sashimi. I have to admit I would not eat it here - but it is a shame because - believe it or not - raw chicken breast is absolutely delicious and tender.

    Beef Liver

How about Guinea Fowl (not the liver, the animal). Or at least Quail. My god they want to let me starve here I think ..... ???? . Not available I suppose. Both go very well with a nice Risotto, especially the Guinea Fowl.
  12. Absolutely correct. But the worst is that this opinion is one of the (possible) next presidents. They just cannot get it right. With more than 330 Mio. citizens they simply cannot pick a single one that is at least acceptable per average.

    Beef Liver

By far the best liver is calf's liver, unbeatable in tenderness. But I never saw any here. Same with calf's meat which is an indispensable ingredient for many classical European dishes, like "Wienerschnitzel", "Züri-Geschnetzeltes" and as well many Italian dishes. Maybe the reason is that they want to refrain from killing young animals. But then I wonder why Suckling Pig is readily available. Any idea where I could get calf's liver / meat ?
  14. Sure the spelling is right ? Should this not be "Readme Note 9s" ? Chinese spies everywhere ???? (Ready to receive a "confused" for this one )
  15. We brought our bread maker from Switzerland. It is fully automatic but what does this help if you have no bread mix. So, like @GreasyFingerswe are on the search for a bread mix (preferably NOT wholemeal, but for dark bread), I do not recall that you have to add yeast, it is somehow everything in the bread mix. To buy yeast here seems to be a problem. Never seen FRESH yeast anywhere. Only the horrible dry yeast (at Big C Extra). But fresh yeast is required for Sourdough Bread, my favourite. Which unfortunately cannot be made in the bread maker. The preparation of a Sour Dough dough is quite complicated and takes a lot of time (days). But if I would get fresh yeast I would try. But where (Pattaya Area).
  16. I just noticed that here is an article today about the topic in the big newspaper that may neither be mentioned nor linked to. So if you are interested please refer to the original source (which I may unfortunately not name, so no link, sorry).
  17. I do. A lawyers office with various specialists.
  18. Incredible that he is still running around freely. They are even still discussing whether to indict him for the Mar-a-lago case. Maybe they won't. And there is still the Georgia issue and the storm to the capitol issue. In these cases they take as well ages before doing the (probable) right thing. Is this so difficult to see ? With his own mindset he would have said: Don't lock him up, just hang him high. But instead they discuss to make him president again. Worse than Pineapple Pizza (with Ketchup). But this is the US. Unbeliveable.
  19. If it is Bangkok have a try at this one: Starita Bangkok 113 Soi Attapat G Floor, Oakwood Residence Thonglor 099 446 4461 There was a story on this Pizzeria in the newspaper that cannot be mentioned and the history behind it. This story was VERY promising. I did not try it yet. For Chonburi my favourite Pizza is made in the Restaurant Sicily near Maprachan Lake For Koh Chang at Mordi & Fuggi All are phantastic and original.
  20. Thanks. I will carefully consider all that. The Security Door that i had installed in my Condo in Switzerland would not have been easy to open - regardless of the method. In any case longer than any occasional burgler would invest. But it was crazy expensive for being only a standard size door. In the house we have now a representative "Gate" to secure. True - your solution with the steel bars looks awful but it is for sure very effective, and for a modest 20KTHB a steal. The locks itself need as well special attention. In a standard (even security) lock they might use a method like pulling a cork out of a wine bottle, only everything with a steeper screw thread and with a machine. They just pull out the lock cylinder that way regardless of any bolts. But not in the Security Door I mentioned above ! It had a mechanism to prevent even that. But I doubt this can be found here. There are a lot of tools to open a lock (a "Spider" being the easiest one for real old key technology). Maybe I really install an ugly steel grid like the one you showed in the picture. At least this is quite safe then and from the outside it still looks beautiful !
  21. Thank you. I have already ordered everything incl. a Siren (should be something around 130dB) from Lazada. I operate a local network with 3 PCs and NAS, UPS etc. - just for fun and to display films and music in the home theatre, so the internet connection is no problem. I use AIS fiber. I even ordered a set of 2 TAPO cameras which I will integrate. Unfortunately it seems that it is not extendable to 4 although an Aliexpress supplier said it is. I will just try. At least I can now have 2 cameras and the manually operated siren in one (Tapo) application. Thanks for all your advice.
  22. Is this all that is required plus a TAPO app and of course a siren that plugs in the front of the tiny switch. Is this the correct product ? Thanks for your help - I will install a siren like you say.
  23. While I was in for treatment of something completely different I just asked at the BHP if I could have a booster (my 5th Covid vaccination). Got it right away - Pfizer bivalent.
  24. Very true. I only had one really good Thai massage in my life, and this was in Hua Hin. Anybody has a real recommendation for a Wat Po (lets call it Wat Po or Pho, OK ? ????) trained blind massage specialist in the Pattaya Area, preferably near Lake Maprachan, but Pattaya does it as well. But I mean really 1. trained in the temple and 2. blind. Besides Thai Massage I had once several massages by a professional at the Zurich University Hospital as a therapy for my back pain. His technique was incredible, he barely touched my skin but how he did it had an extreme effect - it hurt immensely and after a while the pain disappeared. Later he showed me how he did it and I could barely believe what I saw. He told me it has something to do with the fascia. So it depends very much on that you know what you are doing. The usual Thai massage procedure that I know and tested (as strong as possible just somewhere) does really not cut it.
