BANGKOK — Members of Thailand’s LGBT community said Thursday the resignation of Vitit Muntarbhorn, the United Nation’s first watchdog on gender, could slow gains being made globally.

Word spread Wednesday that the Thai law professor had tendered his resignation less than a year after he became the UN’s first independent expert empowered to investigate discrimination and abuses based on sexual orientation and gender identity. His appointment was met with open hostility by some delegations.

Of course, it was.

Particularly the numerous nations that have the death penalty or long prison terms just for being gay.

Just see it as something positive instead. It´s very well known that it´s come to the point that it´s a popular thing to be gay. Like if a person don´t fit in, they just try to be gay and see if life gets better.

Maybe this mans resigning can make a small pin in the wheel for all the people that idolize theese transformations of behaviour.

Being gay is not a choice as much as being straight is not a choice.

Today it actually seems like a choise. That due to the enormuos amount of people that suddenly is.
You can´t be so naive, that you think they were so smart and hid it from everobody before. in that case you are calling the whole mankind stupid.
It´s simply just that it has been cleaner and more interesting to try everything in life.

And, yes! It is definately a choice. There is a possibility to accept your gender in the traditional way. Everything does not need to be hot, hip and modern.

Just want to state that I do not have any homofobia or hate for gay people. I am just stating my opinion as I see and think about life.

I strongly disagree with you that it's a choice and probably best to leave it at that.

Neither are a choice, and I don't have any problems with gender benders. They don't bother me I don't bother them. Guess it frightens some guys not sure why.

Everyone has sexual preferences.. some like small breasts other big.. some like Asians some like blondes.. why is it suddenly different with gender. You can't really change what you like.

Oh, I have to explain just for you? Ok! Here it comes.

I used seems for a general way of expressing how it looks, out of a bystanders view point.
When I used definaltely, it was regarding my own private opinion.

See, now you can understand too.

It´s a pity when people not have anything better to do, then complain between to ways of expression. As I always advice. When life is boring, get a hobby!

Don't disagree and could not care less but I can't pretend to understand it and I do find it weird that a man wants to dress as a women and put lipstick on, sorry but that's just the way I feel about it.

I also don't understand why they want it.. but at the same time I don't understand why i like Asians and blondes don't do a thing for me. I doubt people could change the way they feel that easy or they would conform because in reality most people want to conform they don't want to be outsiders.

That you find it weird is your opinion.. not sure what i think about it.. i know its not something i would do or can understand the attraction about. But I never judge people their sexual preference, they are so diverse we all like something else. There are even young woman who genuinely like older guys (minority but they are there).

Well I'm probably prejudiced but if I go in Bangkok Bank I tend to avoid the till with a guy there dressed as a girl, if I have a choice, but I'm not so prejudiced that if that was the only till open I would not use it so there's hope for me yet  lol

I have no problem with ladyboys at all, but sexually they don't excite me. I see ladyboys the same as i see other people.. some good some bad. My ex who is a tour-guide had a lot of ladyboy friends, all of them good people but can't say I ever looked at them sexually, while i did check her friends out :shock1:

I interviewed someone for a transfer once. He/She wanted to move in the same organization.

He started out as a man and was going through sex change to become a woman. He/She said that the desire to be a woman was because he/she wanted a lesbian relationship! I have no idea why, whether this was or wasn't a choice nor was it relevant to the interview. However, most of our senior female staff were insistent that he/she had to use the gents toilet.

Yeah, but. . .

That's not what gay icon Milos Yiannopulous says. Of course, he may just have been speaking for himself.

Gay icon?......never heard of him,  what does he do to make him an 'icon'?

He's an American trumpist alt right (white supremacist) self described super troll. He is not a gay icon in any way. Yeah I get it anti gay right wingers like to take him as representative or some kind of leader of the gays. He is not. In fact to suggest that he is is a total troll move.

All causes need there champions.

“According to a UN human rights report last year, at least 76 countries retain laws used to criminalise and target people on the basis of their sexual orientation and gender identity, including laws criminalising consensual same-sex relationships among adults.”

African nations and some Islamic states said gay rights should not be regarded as a human right, and want his mandate revoked at a meeting of the UN general assembly in a vote scheduled either for Tuesday or Thursday. African nations are also concerned that sexual orientation and gender identity was being given attention “to the detriment of issues of paramount importance, such as the right to development and the racism agenda”, he said. The Guardian.

I have known gay Toms (i.e. two Toms together as women but wanted to be gay men) and I have heard of Katoey couples (i.e. two men, who wanted to be women, having a 'gay'?  relationship). Even writing this confuses me  :shock1:
