Changing A Tourist Visa To A Student/education Visa

Featured Replies

Hello again!

I want to know if I can go to the immigration office to change my passport to a student/education without having to travel to Singapore. I attend AUA Thai Studies Program and they will give me a letter staing I am in the program. Would I need to give the immigration office anything else? Also, if I need more time (15 days), can I change my passport over with an extended 2 week visa?

Thank you so much for your help!!! :o

Helena

Your previous posts talked of a border run rather than a tourist visa so not at all sure what you have or what you are asking when you say 15 days. If you have less than 15 days remaining I highly doubt a change would be made and am not at all sure a "letter" would do it in any case - the official requirements are as below:

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED IN SUPPORT OF THE APPLICATION FOR VISA STATUS ALTERATION. (NON-ED)

Application for Visa Status Alteration. (TM.86)

Copy of passport entries.

4 X 6 cm. Photograph.

Application fee of 2,000 baht.

To study at a government university or lower levels.

A letter from the university, requesting visa status alteration.

A letter from the director of the department concerned under the Ministry of Education or, in the case of lower academic levels, a letter from the governor, requesting a visa or visa status alteration.

Diploma and resume of the applicant.

To study at a private institution, university or lower levels.

A letter from the rector of university, requesting a visa status alteration.

A letter from the department concerned under the Ministry of Education or, in the case of lower academic levels in education, a letter from the governor, requesting a visa or visa status alteration.

A certified copy of the registration paper of the educational institution.

A certifed copy of the license of the school or university administrator.

Diploma and resume of the applicant.

Remarks

The Applicant must sign every page of the application.

Documents of the university or private school must be certified by the authority.

The visa applicant must arrange the documents in proper order and must prepare the originals as proof.

Call 02-2873101-10 ext.2237 for details.

Guess I'm going to Singapore! :o Will I need all of those documents for a 3 month education visa? AUA gave me two papers: one in English stating that I am a student and will continue my studies when I receive the visa. The other is a photocopy in Thai. Will this be enough? Should I consider a multiple/double entry visa while I'm there?

Thank you!!!

You can also do this with less hassle in Malaysia; the embassy there seems to be the one a lot of students go to (I am doing a masters, and there are a few foreign students in the program).

Does KL, Malaysia have multi/double-entry visas, in case my two sheets of paper from the school is insufficient. Guess I'm a little worried :D Thank you all for your help.

I'm in the U.S. and looking into getting a non-imm ED visa to study Thai also. I enquired about getting the acceptance letter with AUA in Chiang Mai. I was told that the letter "will definitely not work with the Immigration Office in Chiang Mai", and "not sure whether it works with the Embassy or Consulate". blink.gif

So from this I assume that with the letter from AUA, I might be able to at lease try and get a 90 day non-imm ED visa from a Thai embassy or consulate, but will not be able to extend it past the 90 days. I was told that most their students were on tourist visas and that if I really wanted the ED visa I should go to one of the universities. This is of course different from what you've been told by AUA. So, I'm very curious to see how this works out for you. Please give us a update when you get back from Malaysia. Hope it all goes well.

Anyone else have any experience or advice on getting a non-imm ED visa to study Thai (without going to the university level)?
