All the locals are buying their booze from 7 elevens anyyway and sit down on the beach to enjoy. So no change really.

You know, no lateral thinking . How hard would it be to hire or buy a tractor with a scraper and catch bin, then every morning hit the beach, and give it a good clean.. These things are also designed to go a little deep into the sand to remove wood, rocks and broken glass.  Oh that's right, the cost would have to come from somewhere and we can't have depleted envelopes, can we?  And who really cares about the not so hi so's or farangs, they will still come.

Might ease the strain tourism is putting on the place.  TAT did say pattaya is bursting at the seams and pattaya tourism is smashing all records

........ must bid for their plot annually in a drawing.

Wonder if there will be anything to be drawn at all; no beach chairs, no umbrellas, no booze = no tourists - just wondering.

im not so sure about that, i have visited 3 or 4 beaches in my life and never seen anyone drinking.

Why is this ban just for Pattaya beach?

Why aren't the vendors protesting this ban?

One of the pleasures of life is an afternoon on Pattaya beach - child plays in water, makes sandcastles, Mum plays Candy Crush on phone,  Dad reads a book, both eat some food, drink a beer or 3, have a foot massage etc, under an umbrella provided by the vendor. The whole experience costs a couple of thousand at most. Take any one of those elements away and the enjoyment diminishes. 

 

My guess is that the powers that be are planning to drive out the vendors and set up posher, more expensive kiosks - run by their mates - and paying kickbacks to the authorities.
