Govt releases ‘agreement of truth’ after six months of talks

Line photo used in promotion of the "agreement of truth" read "Adhere to the King's principles. Follow what the father did". The photo is meant to be sent as daily greeting as the bottom line is read "Hello Monday".

After six months of talking with political and social groups, the junta-led government on Monday released an “agreement of truth” in a bid to realise its reconciliation efforts.

The so-called agreement – previously often referred to as the “social contract” – consists of 10 aspects, including “solving problems by parliamentary means”, “respecting international obligations”, “not distorting information with the aim of instigating conflict” and “authority must not support any political sides in particular”.

They also include the government’s much-hailed policies and concepts – such as Pracha Rat, or working cooperation among the government, private and civil-society sectors; and the “Thailand 4.0” economic strategy – and the late King’s sufficiency-economy philosophy.

The 24 pages of documents making up the “agreement of truth” also cover the reconciliation-building committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan.

Several political blocs were invited by the committee for “discussions and idea exchanges”, with the exception of the People’s Democratic Reform Foundation of Suthep Thaugsuban, who refused to take part in the agreement process.

The latest public hearing on agreement-drafting was held in July, when red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan was the only key political figure to attend.

Prawit had said that the agreement would be drawn up in order to be agreed upon by political groups, but to what extent it would be binding on them is not yet certain.

It would be illegal to pass comment and that is the truth.

There is no need to pass comment.

Bit of a waste of a committee to me. Maybe there should be a committee to see what extent it would be. Maybe a 20 tear extent committee

What a waste of 6 months.

So the outcome is some obvious statements which nobody will adhere to anyways.

Do the rules of solving things through parliament and authority not taking sides also apply to the military? So no more coups to reinstate themselves or cronies as new rulers?

Wow, such distaste for the present government , yet some supporters yet of

the previous 2 governments. After all the last 2 governments were not without

corruption. The brother runs off likely because he seen the writing on the wall

and got out of the country before getting jail time, then sister did the same.

Try remember there is also another powerful family, that has influence in

the country of Thailand. Name will not be mentioned.

“You are a slow learner, Winston."
"How can I help it? How can I help but see what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four."
"Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane.”

Are you commenting on the same topic as this drivel doesn't seem to apply to a word in the aeticle or in the comments?

If you have several groups of people, none of whom actually know what the truth is, nor likely to recognize it even if it bit them, then how can they reach an kind of agreement that means anything?

The truth, is, well actually, the truth. No matter how inconvenient. Until that sinks in, and there is a realization that constantly lying, even little white lies, is totally unacceptable they might as well all be pissing in the wind.

Sounds like the interview for an Accountant.

Applicant 1 what is two plus two? 4 sir. Sorry no job.

Applicant 2 what is two plus two? 4 sir. Sorry no job

Applicant 3 what is two plus two? What would you like it to be sir! You got the job.

In politics two and two may have any result between three and seven, assuming only whole numbers are allowed. The only result not allowed is four.

What we need is not an "agreement of truth" but some government ministry that can ensure that everyone is absolutely aware of what is the truth. This will ensure there are no misunderstandings.

This ministry could ensure that all historical events suffer no misinterpretation, the truth about Thailand's triumphant role in history can be set in stone and everyone will see that the establishment is whiter than white. When people deviate from the truth, good people can be portrayed as bad. The media needs to be controlled, they are often the source of untruths. Writers and musicians are other sources of misinformation. Books and songs must be government approved to ensure the people are not misled.
