BANGKOK: -- A large number of Thai and foreign tourists visited the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall on Tuesday, as this century-old palace will soon close its doors indefinitely for repairs.

Visitors, who are required to dress politely, including long skirts for women, are welcome at the site until this Friday, September 29.

The throne hall, designed by an Italian architect, was built under the orders of King Rama V but construction wasn’t completed until 1915, six years after his death.

The hall used to serve as the parliament building in the early years of Thai democracy but it currently hosts public exhibitions.
