Gas lighter explosion engulfs Samut Prakan house in flames

By The Nation

An aged owner of a house in Samut Prakan’s Mueang district lit joss sticks to prepare for bed on Thursday, but her gas lighter instead exploded, causing her house to be engulfed in a blaze.

The fire started at the house of Buranee Lakphet, 78, in Tambon Thai Ban Mai in Mueang district at 11.30pm on Thursday.

The house is located next to a six-storey apartment building. The fire caused confused tenants of rented rooms to run outside in the dark .

Firefighters took about 30 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Buranee told police that she was lighting up joss sticks and candles for a prayer before she going to bed when her gas lighter exploded, causing flames that quickly spread to envelop other things in her room.

Police took Buranee and four others in her house for interrogation. No charges have been laid pending an inspection by forensic science officers.
