Northern Bangkok Monorail, which will operate the Pink Line mass-transit route, and Eastern Bangkok Monorail, which will operate the Yellow Line route, on Tuesday signed credit-facility agreements with Bangkok Bank, Krungthai Bank and Siam Commercial Bank to secure a syndicated loan of Bt63.36 billion to develop the projects.

Bt31.68 billion will be allocated to each of the two projects.

Bangkok Bank president Chartsiri Sophonpanich said his bank was the lead arranger of the syndicated loan, providing 33 per cent or Bt21.12 billion of the amount.

The BSR Joint Venture, which won the bidding for the Pink Line and the Yellow Line monorail projects, set up Northern Bangkok Monorail and Eastern Bangkok Monorail as joint ventures to run the elevated rail routes.

The BSR Joint Venture comprises BTS Group Holdings, Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction, and Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding.

The projects were initiated under a public-private-partnership scheme of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand.

They are going to build the monorail trains here ?  The Japanese and the Malaysians have experience with heavily used monorail transport systems.  One should expect costly delays.   Not an easy thing to build.  Parts will need to be all custom made.  There are no monorail stores were you can just pick up a lip chassis.  Wonder why they chose a monorail system.

No problem, the monorail system and trains will be designed and supplied by Bombardier via their Chinese factory. Bombardier have built many monorail systems all over the world. There will be no costly delays, the consortium includes BTS, SinoThai and Ratchburi Electric.
