Parties Can Only Campaign For Election Next Year: Govt

BANGKOK — Political parties can only campaign after a precise election date is set next year, deputy prime minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said Thursday.

 

Junta chairman and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha earlier this week said the date would be announced in June 2017, and the actual poll would take place five months later, in November. A junta ban on political activities remains in effect, meaning political parties cannot organize any functions even after Prayuth promised the election.

Will the ban on freedom of speech, press, and assembly be lifted with the ban?  Or will parties be required to campaign without criticizing the government, gathering in groups of more than five, eating sandwiches, etc.?

It just gets worse. International criticism is growing greater and greater as the weeks roll by and these announcements stopping political activities against the junta continue

It will be novel and entertaining to watch the various restrictions on political parties and campaigning that will surface prior to announcing an election date.

We'll have to wait and see what is allowed and what's not.

So the poll takes place next month then in November 2017.

Its only a vote. No need for accuracy. I expect the timetable to be more along the line of a) date announced June 2018, b)Result decided August 2018, c) election takes place November 2018.

Khun Korn has been indirectly campaigning for years. He has been busy working with the poor trying to improve their livelihood after the last governments downfall and has done so tirelessly with little fan fair or acknowledgement. 

 

Khon Korn either as Prime Minister or involved in govt again in an aspect will be a huge positive for Thailand and its people. He truly gives without thought for votes.

I think Wissanu is correct on this. Election campaigning is normally few weeks before election. The election has to be set before allowing campaigning which I think under EC rules is 28 days. Stand corrected.
