Word Icon in Win10

Featured Replies

Had OpenOffice in Win10, then uninstalled and put in Office '03, this usually works fine but now all my Word files are the wrong icon. They have the OpenOffice icon.

Anyone know how to change this? Its rather annoying.

thanks

Icons are displays, usually, by the type of file extension used by the document.  These are usually populated, at least in the Windows environment, in the System Registry and each additional program you load will add or change entries when installed.

Suggest looking here for info on how to change what icon gets displayed on your system:

You need to change the default program to Word for opening .doc files. Surprised though that you are still seeing OpenOffice icons after deleting the suite? This should change the icon to Word, if it doesn't, then follow RichCor's advice in the post above as it may be a seperate issue apart from default programs.

Find any .doc file and right-click on it. Scroll down the drop menu to 'Open With' and click on this If Word is there, select it and also check the box 'Always use this app to open....'

If word is not shown, click on 'More Apps', select Word and check the box as above. If Word is still not shown, scroll down that list to the bottom and select 'Look for another App on this computer' and navigate to your Office 2003 install folder (usually found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office) and select the Word.exe file.

Another way to do it is through 'Settings/Apps/Default Apps/Chose default app by file type'.

Hope that helps a bit....................

Thanks for your advice, I have tried changing the default app and changing the files to Word in Preferences - but still these do not display the Word icon.

Its most annoying. Never had this problem in 20 years.

Will investigate How to Change the Icon of a File Type in Windows

Thanks
