Troops and police descended on Ratchadamnone road in front of the former head office of the Government Lottery Office on Thursday night following an online complaint that a man was collecting parking fees from mourners at the rate of Bt100.

A Facebook user with the account name of Thureedin Haengphak posted a clip at 10.33pm on Wednesday, showing a man demanding that he pay Bt100 to park roadside in front of the GLO’s former head office.

The motorist complained that he went to pay respects to the portrait of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulydej when the stranger demanded the hefty parking fee.

The clip shows the man motorist protesting the high fee. The collector responds that his brother had assigned him to collect the fee.

Facebook users condemned fee collection.

Troops from the Peace Keeping Operation Centre and officers from Chana Songkram police station went to the scene on Thursday night but did not find the man in the clip.

The Chana Songkram police said they would investigate the incident.
