All safe as Phuket tour bus brakes fail on Patong Hill

PHUKET: Patong police confirmed that there were no injuries or damage after a tour bus experienced break problems on Patong Hill and the driver had to direct it to the side of the road to prevent what could be another accident on the notorious road.

 

At about 2 pm today (Oct 21), Patong Police were informed about a traffic congestion on Patong Hill caused by a broken tour bus blocking one of the lanes leading to Patong.

 

As The Phuket News were told, the bus experienced break problems so the driver directed it to the side of the road and safely stopped there without any injuries and damage.

If only they would learn to use the gears while descending hills,

they would not have the problem of brake fade.

Lucky not another nasty accident.

descending from Khao Yai towards Kabin Buri, all truck and bus drivers who use the road are on their brakes constantly . . . .. their red brake lights clearly indicating it

 

shame that in Thailand, getting a permit for driving large vehicles, does not include a lesson on how to use the gears to support braking on a downhill road.

The name on the front of that bus probably sums up the feelings of its passengers.

So the driver is also a qulified mechanic ... ??

Yet another "brake failure"

For correctness sake I suggest they modify the reporting in the future:

instead of "brake failure" use

"brake failure claimed  by the driver"

Did i not read on here recently that they were banning tour buses and lorries from that hill ?

That's not news!  It's quite common for bus drivers to drive 12+ hours without a break here.  He probably pulled-over to have a Red Bull.

Causes a side of the brain to be interlocked with the brakes and gearbox and one becomes faded, the other disengaged.

Sadly the driver had a good idea about the problem and again makes a temp fix. Next  time the hill accident might have fatalities. Once again the Thai idea/culture of mai pen rai, all be all Ok, why worry until it happens .... sad sad

Fuxing tours; one parks up every morning on beach road at bottom of Amari slope about 08.00hrs then a smaller bus rocks up full of chinese tourists and away it goes...

 

Think the last rule was no busses allowed in rush hour times, obviously there is no brake fade outside of these times on Patong hill lol... Logical?
